Episode 1: "Don't put so many molds in your bag, use fewer molds at various stages of wear to get different levels of stability" Episode 2: "Don't rely on wear to achieve different levels of stability, use different molds that fly like various stages of wear right out of the box" ? 🤔

It’s more so you have a readily available backup if you were to lose your go to disc for that type of shot. There are pros who do the same thing who have backups available in case they lose a certain disc that achieves that particular flight of the disc they had for a while but lost. It’s not to say that he shouldn’t stop throwing that origin but it doesn’t hurt to have a readily available backup for that type of shot he uses the origin for.

But seriously it's an excellent point you brought up. Hard to explain the full thought process behind everything without making super long episodes that will lose people before we even get to the conclusion of the point anyways. Subconcscious confidence is a real thing, and I fully believe in it. I carry 23 discs in my bag, but keep my mold count extremely limited. However, I found myself relying on an extremely beat in Wraith that had extreme amounts of turn. While this was helpful and fantastic to have, it became increasingly difficult to practice shots with that disc without walking miles as I picked up that disc to throw it once, walk down the field, throw it again, walk down the field, and repeat. Instead, I started working with Terns. The Tern started in the same place as that Wraith, so now I had no fear on water shots because the disc was replaceable. I could get better practice in the field because I could throw ten Tern shots in a row trying to feel/learn the line. Shawn loved the Origin because it was familiar, but mostly for the line. He even mentioned that it was near time for that disc to leave his bag. If he goes out and buys another origin using the same mindset of I must throw an Origin because the last one worked great, he's two years away from having that shot again. I will always be a fan of beat in discs, I carry a Pig in my bag that will hold anhyzer till the cows come home. :) But I've also worked in 3 more pigs to the same place to have ready to go behind it. Two different roads, but Shawn doesn't have the luxury of disc golf as a career (like most of our listeners) so it's a bit tougher for him to build that army of backups. Always happy to discuss, as coaching is a learning process in itself! Thanks for the feedback though!

@@RobbieCDiscgolf , ironically, I don't actually think the two seemingly contradictory pieces of advice are wrong, I just thought it was a funny juxtaposition. Especially for newer players, get molds that fly the way you want, and once those get too flippy, the straighter disc next to it is probably ready to fill that slot and you're ready to cycle. Personally, I cycle my workhorse molds because they take the most abuse, and use different molds with different stabilities for the slots I use less.

This has quickly become my most eagerly anticipated podcast of the week! Id love to see some discussion up top about how the player has made changes to his bag recently and what issues they've been trying to solve. It would be interesting to see if Robbie and Brad see the same or different issues with their bag each week.

Best thing I ever did for my game was throw my overstable distance driver in the pond… forced me, as a first year player, to rethink my life choices and slow down. It was a humbling moment when I realized I was a noodle arm. Robbie C’s channel helped shape my bag from that point on. Anyway, Fuse sounds like what I currently use my lightweight Diamond for. I power down and it’ll go right for me. Nice shot to have, but at an 8 speed it’d be nice to have something a little slower that has more finesse. And stops. Skipping sucks on finesse shots.
@prattacaster
@prattacaster 2 жыл бұрын
Bounty or Fuse will work great for this but, neither are as flippy as the Diamond, comparatively speaking. Bounty is lower profile, fuse is deeper. I personally bag the Bounty as I typically like shallower discs. It's a speed 4 but it can get out to 275ft no problem.

This is a great podcast. I've been playing casually with friends once or twice a month for almost 20 years but didn't realize that there were holes in my bag until I started hearing Robbie break this down these first two episodes. It's been really insightful. And that Fuse would go great in my bag because I have an orange Fuse that has been my go to straight flying midrange for about 5 or so years but now after so many tree hits, it's turned into my turnover midrange that I have to really throw on hyzer to even go straight anymore. And my ESP Buzzz doesn't fly straight far enough. This Fuse would fill that straight flying midrange spot again.

so, i watched this yesterday, but i just thought about this. I think that the point about needing to get that disc that flies the way you need out of the box is important, HOWEVER, i do believe it condradicts (slightly) the point of the importance of cycling discs. i feel like the best use of a disc like the uplink is as an out-the-box flyer placeholder for a disc like his beat-in origin or the i-blend chariot he is trying to work in the same way. the uplink is a disc that, though more available, will beat in to an unusably understable state much quicker. hope that makes sense
@RobbieCDiscgolf
@RobbieCDiscgolf 2 жыл бұрын
In a dream world he would have a Chariot that fills that slot and with him throwing other chariots he would cycle into that slot more perfectly. With you on that 100% The hangup I saw was he already had an unique mold in the bag, but that unique mold did not fly like its original purpose. Therefore replacement would be a LONG process that he might not have time for especially in a tournament type setting!

Ironically, the fuse could replace the Kyle Klein Meta Origin I have in my bag. I love the Meta Origin for a disc that started out straight and turns right backhand when thrown flat. It’s a unicorn because it’s a tour series and it’s getting hard to find stock. Also have been experimenting with it some forehand for some wood holes that don’t need a full power throw.

Hey Robby, huge fan of your channel and I’m just wandering why u said about the his zone “it’s not a get freaky Z right”? I’m only asking cus that is the zone I have and the only zone I’ve ever thrown, so if I should get a Z or esp instead of the get freaky then I def will! But I do like it, even though it’s beat in now and not as stable and def not as stable as I would like it to be sometimes! Lol

@RobbieCDiscgolf 2 жыл бұрын
The Get Freaky's are in Z-Flex to my knowledge which is just a bit different than the standard Z or ESP. That little bit of a difference doesn't seem like alot, but when you're in the middle of a clutch upshot situation that difference can be monumental. However, I'm not saying there is a wrong choice it's a preference!

Totally disagree. You see broken in plastic all over tour. Not everyone is like Mcbeth using new putters every tournament. There are certainly discs that become harder to utilize unless you’ve got uphill / tailwind / or increased elevation like we get throughout Colorado. Content for contents sake...
@RobbieCDiscgolf
@RobbieCDiscgolf 2 жыл бұрын
I one hundred percent agree with your disagreeance. Broken in plastic works great for the .01% of players touring around the country playing everyday and they also throw hard enough to beat in plastic to that point repeatably. The weekend warrior can't achieve that same level of wear with repeatabilty. I never said that it was time for the Origin to go away, I was simply trying to help him make sure that shot can actually stay in his bag. Shawn wasn't in love with an Origin because it flew like an Origin, and if he wants to practice that shot it will involve ALOT of walking. Finding a disc that flies close to that line to start will not only ensure that he can keep that flight but also open up new doors for the flights it creates when it beats in. We do appreciate you consuming the content though! Always happy to discuss!
