I know if I was on my death bed, I would want to see this. I think this video could be highly beneficial for older patients in hospitals. I've shown this to several doctors and nurses, and gotten great feedback so far. If you know anyone who works with the elderly or hopelessly ill patients, please share this with them. I'd love to hear their feedback. These ideas could fix some of the major issues in our current healthcare system. I also want to give a big thank you to those who support on Patreon! www.patreon.com/AfterSkool

For patiants maybe. But could be a lot less applicable as biological imortality technology is becoming closer. Not even talking about having superhuman bodies. Sooner or later, we will all die. But why not have a bigger lifespan and longest period healthy adulthood?
@Rynergy99
@Rynergy99 4 жыл бұрын
Gleb Strelets I feel what you mean. That would be cool though. But If biological immortality becomes a mainstream thing in the future then of course a lot of people will want go on that route. Alan Watts said. We need to make more room for the next generation to come, which I agree so they can bring change and utilize this realm to their greater good. I honestly don’t have a problem with immortality but if people would want to live longer then in that case either they may just be to afraid to face death or they are just holding on to the physical world to the point they don’t wanna leave when there is other life we can experience that could be way better than Earth. I think Earth, it could also get over crowded maybe.

@@Rynergy99 I think that in Elon we Musk (stolen phrase from Burgercrueg)... I mean, Elon Musk would and his companies would probably create a successful colony on Mars at that point. And I think that space habitats and biological immortality would go mainstream at the same time, because real estate would start to become more expensive at when BI started to work in practise as a product. And wealthy nations in which such a thing would go mainstream would probably have even less birth per capita then. P S BI would make bigger part of society want to protect the envorinement. In the begining, even the elites would probably start fighting for ecology, because no one can predict when space habitats will even become practical. Middle class is the next affected.

There's certainly a correlation between traumatic life events and deeper intellectual and existential thoughts. In the same way you don't think about what would happen if your phone was stolen, all the information that could be lost, we don't think of how much our life is worth to us and others, and what it's all really about, until we might lose it. But it's not exactly necessary. Some people think ahead, they see the point and they see through all the bullshit society pushes, putting up distractions from the real meaning of life.

What a truly amazing and beautiful 10 minute speech. The current human condition is so strangely unnatural and depressing that I grew to become a miserable depressed adult with not a single clue as to what I was doing here. It is through the wisdom and teaching of those before me that have opened my eyes to the reality behind the curtains. Although I still suffer through life, in many ways I feel far more free than ever before.

There are people in hospitals who cannot talk, move their body, cannot eat or drink, etc. They can move their eyes and look around the room. Their families keep them alive thru hospital machines. The state of being unnatural is coined by humans. How do we defined something as unnatural if it simply occurs or is created? If we are to mold the environment to our fitting, wouldn’t that be natural evolution of the environment? How is it unnatural to use that knowledge to preserve someone’s life? Personally I see no issue with choosing a natural or morphine based death....

First of all, I absolutely love your artwork and the way you enhance these excellent lectures. As to the subject matter here, I suppose I am one of the fortunate ones who has always accepted the fact that death is inevitable, and have had no fear of it going as far back as when I was a 6 year old and first experienced the death of someone very close to me. As I always tell people "I am not afraid to die, and if it were to happen tomorrow I'd be OK with it, but I am not doing anything to necessarily hasten the process because I also like my life." However, if I were ever to get some kind of terminal diagnosis I would take the quickest, most pain-free path to the end, because if I can't be active and feel good, there is no point in being alive. I have also had the end of life discussion with a parent and a grandparent, so the scenario he talks about around the 5:00 mark is something I've not had to deal with. While those deaths were sad, we in the family did have the "it's OK to go" discussion. I am surprised and dismayed when I hear that people can't or refuse to do that with a loved one who is near death. I've told my family I won't be waiting around to hear that from them, because I already know it's OK, but some people really need to hear that before they let go, and it's cruel to withhold that.
@roman-yt2893
@roman-yt2893 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, the sad thing is that there are families, like mine, that are not bad really but can't or didn't talk with me about the fundamental aspects of life. Now I've come to realise that the more I actually inform myself about those topics and the more I dig and think about it the more I accept it and actually see the real value of life and existence. Still I couldn't let go of the fear cause there is still a lot that I would like to do and be but I've at least come to a point where I'm thankful for every day and life itself

Some people don't get a deathbed, some people arn't lucky enough to be able to say goodbye to the ones you love. In Memory of my Little brother Thomas David Burket, December 1st 1995- August 25th , 2019. He was struck by a man who blew a Red Light and hit my Little brother was riding his bike. We have so many amazing memories, from growing up with Nintendo, and playing video games, to finally being able to drink a beer with eachother. He is my number 1, my partner in crime and will forever remain with me locked in all of the memories I have stored over the 23 beautiful years he gave my Family and I. Cherish those in your life, please, create amazing memories and protect eachother!

There's this great misconception in the world.... That death is important and that there could never be enough space for everyone without death. A: space is big, the world is big, if we took proper care of it and lived green lives, billions of more people could live here. Not to mention the infinite amount of space in space B: the fruit flys average lifespan is 28 days.... And damn, could you imagine living longer than 28 days as a fruit fly? Why would you? There'd be no joy in life anymore? Nothing left to do? No beauty? That fruit fly has experienced everything it'll ever feel in just 28 days? No, there is no reason for death. The world is beautiful, irrespective of how long you've lived or how you've died, rainbows and stars and sunsets will always be beautiful

@TheDrewSaga the only reason to life, ultimately, is the reason we give it. The heat death of the universe will, to the best of our current knowledge, render all meanings meaningless. I choose, as an individual, to value life over non-life under the same principle as "taking an action is always better than no action, even when both choices are considered equal." The only value to death is the value we, as a society, give it. I am also making the case that all value society has given to death is baseless or on false pretenses or wrong information. Death's value is entirely artificial while life's value is innate. Another way to look at it, A dead thing cannot declare itself valuable, while a living thing can. And thus the "ultimate power" in this situation is given to the living. And as the living we should declare living to be greater than death. And until I hear a counter argument from a dead thing, I doubt I will change my mind.

I am comfortable with knowing that I will face death. I am comfortable with death and I understand it’s necessity. First, the world would not survive if everyone who ever lived was immortal. We would suffer much more through famine, drought, climate change, violence, hate, and more if we were eternally in our bodies. What I believe to be true, is that we are the very Universe experiencing life in a direct way. I believe that since everything that we are and everything that we do was formulated in the Universe, that we are all miniature forms of our entire Universe testing what it has made. This is why there is a common saying that when I see you, I see myself. Because deep down we are all the same. We all come from the same thing. All we are is the Universe because if we did not come from the Universe then where did we come from. I feel that most people do not feel this way because it’s almost impossible to expand the mind to think in a way that is in such a large scale, in that we are the Universe, instead of we are the manifestation of our parent’s reproductive agents. Thus, I am confident that the Universe is looking out for me, and when it is my time to go, the Universe is finished experiencing life from my perspective. This is true with everything, from plants, inanimate objects, animals, and humans alike. We are each a unique perspective of the Universe, and that is why I place my trust in the Universe, because if the very existence of the Universe proves to me that it cares enough to offer different perspectives of it, such as human consciousness, to photosynthesis, to the laws of physics. The Universe is so great, in fact, that it allows us to ponder on what it is and where it came from. Thus, I believe that as we come to an understanding as to what the Universe is and what our purpose in life is, is to give the Universe a perspective of how each and every person experiences life. To say that one is not ready to die is to suggest that one’s selfish desires as a human, not as a grand, expanding Universe is irrational and immoral. We must accept death for what it is- the end of our Universe’s trillions of perspectives, and this is why Socrates claimed that the only thing that he knows is that he knows nothing. Because life and existence is experienced in an incalculable amount of ways, and to suggest that ones knows a lot is an irrational statement. This perspective allows me to live my life in peace, knowing that we all live and experience life according to the Universe, and that we are all merely a conscious, rational entity that the Universe has created in order to experience itself. So I have gratitude for the Universe, I thank it for the gift it bestowed upon me to experience itself through the lens of my senses. Therefore, we must not fear death, as what we have gifted is simply the ability to take in what the Universe is, and thus take in what we ourselves are and have created. When my time comes, I will not be regretful, for I know too well that what happened to me is exactly what the Universe wished to experience as a human- and thus I can be content with that, for I simply do not know why. But what I do know is that we are not isolated. The Universe is with us every step of the way. And whatever we experience is what the Universe wishes to experience, which is the most humbling thought I can conceive. May we all experience a blessed life, a life of pain and pleasure, a life of drive and motivation, a life of leisure and ambition. But most essential and important, a life of peace and love. Because if everything around us is the Universe as are we, then why hate? For if we hate things manifested by the Universe, we reflect that hate onto ourselves.

I am not scared of death. What I am scared of is dying. The process, I mean. With agonizing gasps and all. Dying with physical pain, unless I am lucky enough to die in my sleep. And what if chronic illness leads me to death? The pain of suffering the illness for years + the last agonizing gasps of death... it is these things that worry me. No amount of philosophy can make you escape this grim (and highly possible) reality. I have seen a person in my family dying after living for years in constant physical pain. The pain tolerance of humans is very weak, I tell you. It takes just one toothache to drive all positive philosophies out of your mind. You then rush for a painkiller, pop it, get relief after about an hour, and then relapse into your life-is-beautiful-and-worth-living philosophy again.
