Remarkable how well you break down the various causes and effects. When I went through fixing the stalled hips/early extension problem I thought all I would have to do was push my left hip back in the downswing to preserve hip depth and rotate. That was a good start, but it didn't magically fix other issues or eliminate the compensation moves I had developed. You nailed two of them. First, I had to feel like my elbows were squeezing together and in front of my chest during the backswing. Second, during the transition and downswing I had to feel like my left wrist was bowing from the weight of the clubhead. When I looked at these on video I was surprised that neither of these moves looked as extreme as they felt. My upper arms actually weren't ridiculously squeezed together and my left wrist was mostly flat and a tiny bit bowed. A third thing I had to work on, but wasn't mentioned in your video, was the overall tempo/sequence. I felt like my backswing got slower (even though it didn't really look that way on video) and I had to develop a true transition where my lower body started to rotate the other direction before my backswing was complete.

Thanks for this video! I find that I stall when my lead shoulder moves too high at impact (a legacy from the days when I used to slide my hips to create a big draw, throwing the hands out towards the ball). I find the remedy is to focus on keeping my lead shoulder lower and hands moving round - it also keeps my tush line "back", not tucking under, as a welcome by-product. Love your videos!

This was a Fantastic refresher video on how to rotate properly. Jonathan could you do a video on the bit of the backswing from P2 upwards. Nobody seems to cover it and usually say something like “simply go up to the top” but is it a lift of both hands, is there any forearm rotation required and should the left arm remain pinned to the chest - I can’t seem to find any information on the correct feels for this part of the swing

This concept of the downswing has been my concern. I think the right arm is my weakness. Think of it’s pointing down but it doesn’t point straight down. But points behind me on a slight angle. Here we are not thinking about swing speed but about compression of the golf ball. With the right rotation the greatest compression will occur. Thought about the right arm can’t be isolated. Use of the right arm has to coincide with the rotation of the body.

Mr. Chown.. Do you tend to have a lower ball flight with say your 7-PW? I ask because at times my left wrist flexion along with a good body rotation can at times hinder a loftier approach shot.. Just curious..

Mate I'm not sure why but that impact ball caused a lot of issues with my release and I was hitting block shots to the right for years, everyone says it's a great tool so I try to stick with it. I guess my release has some flip component that the impact ball stops?
@jchowngolf
@jchowngolf 3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like there’s so issues happening earlier on it your swing. Especially if your flipping your hands through impact. Start off by making sure the club face is square 👍🏼

JChown, I'm plagued by throwing in transition and getting the shaft steep. What are your thoughts on taking the right thumb off the grip to reduce strength in the right hand?
@jchowngolf
@jchowngolf 3 жыл бұрын
I would definitely figure out the reason behind why the steep shaft is occurring. Strengthening the right hand will most likely not be the answer. Check out some of my videos on causes of a steep shaft 👍🏼

@@jchowngolf Thanks for the response. I actually meant to hover the right thumb off the grip to lesson the pressure and maybe help with lag. Not sure if I would lose control though. You're a great teacher btw.
@jchowngolf
@jchowngolf 3 жыл бұрын
That could help relieve some grip pressure l, but I would definitely worry about the loss of control, and possibly involuntarily strengthen my grip pressure on the left hand. Thanks bud! 🤙🏻
