I know your first reaction is likely to be that something must be wrong, but don't worry! I'm sure it's just that your chickens are molting.

Molt is the main reason they lose their feathers but they can also lose their feathers from stress as well.

I definitely noticed my girls going bald and thought something was seriously wrong. I can't see any mites and I treat their runs and coops with d e weekly. This makes so much more sense to me. Thanks for sharing!

@@AudreysLittleFarm 😊 Thank you! Hoping this is what it is.. I can't seem to find another explanation. Question, I live in florida so fall and winter is pretty far away... do you think they're starting to molt so soon? Or should I try to investigate further. I'm a first time chicken owner and my girls are a little over a yr old now. I hear they begin their adult molt at age 18 months or so.. Just want to make sure it's nothing I'm not seeing. Any suggestions on what I can look for would be much appreciated! They did stop laying so much this week. I always got an egg a day, now they're taking a little break it seems.

Little known fact- when chickens quit laying eggs, they’re getting ready to explode. The explosion is the slowest known to man

What can I do if the processed food meal is not available in my area to regrow chick feathers?

It's available to order online if you can't find it locally, you can also try to increase their protein with others foods as well.

Hi! It is the chicken's dust bath filled with Diatomaceous earth and wood ash, it kills all the pests that they may have😊

This is Apr, I have 16 hens most of them have missing feathers above the tail, below the neck or on their chest, I suspect billing, this had been going on for months. I have separated them, which worked for a while then got worse.

It sounds like there could be other chickens that are picking on them plucking out their feathers. They shouldn't be molting in April. But chickens can molt from stress or extreme heat as well.

I have a question. My rooster plucked my hens feathers. We have separated him. What I’m wondering is will my hens get there feathers back? It’s been a month and they are still bold. Is there something I can do to help them grow there feathers. I will get higher protein for them, we try to give them good food. Organic. I just miss their pretty feathers. Thank you !

Hi there! I'm so sorry to hear that, I had the same problem with my rooster which is ultimately what made me decide not to have roosters anymore because my hens were always bald. They will definitely get their feathers back it just takes time. Definitely feed them a higher protein feed. Anything that is 18-20% protein. You can also feed them additional treats here and there that are higher in protein such as cooked eggs and meat. Also be sure that they have plenty of calcium in their diet. The best way to do that is by keeping oyster shell in a container that is always available for them😊 I hope this helps! My hen has big bald spot , the butt area, but the rest of her has all feathers 🪶 is is from laying eggs?

Hi! I'm so sorry for the long reply, if she is only bald around her butt it might be mites. It's not from laying eggs, however if they have been broody and sitting on eggs it is common for them to pluck out their feathers underneath their belly.

My chicken is a silver laced Wyandot and it looks like the one in the thumbnail but its been like that for a while but she 3 highest on the pecking order and the 2 dose not hurt her much idk why

Sometimes it takes them a long time to grow back in their feathers. As long as the others are not pecking at her they'll eventually grow back in. You can feed additional protein during this time and that'll help too😊

Sometimes molt only lasts a couple of weeks but sometimes up to a few months. Just be sure to give them extra protein during this time and that'll help them grow back in their feathers quicker and then make sure none of the other chickens are pecking at their bare skin.

My chickens are losing their feathers on there back, can that be from my roosters? 10 out of 14 are missing feathers.

It’s likely from the rooster. They shouldn’t be molting right now and since it’s only on their back that’s what it’s likely from. I got rid of my rooster for that reason.

Are older chickens picking on them and plucking their feathers out? Chicks don't typically molt and especially this time of year. But they can lose their feathers from stress.

@@AudreysLittleFarm I only have baby chicks, six of them. The bald ones are actually more active than the others. They seem very healthy otherwise.

That's normal too, sometimes they'll look completely bald by the time they get through molt. They'll all grow back in eventually😊

Hi there, they can also lose their feathers due to stress. Could that be an issue for your chickens right now? Sometimes extreme heat is very stressful for them
