I am spankin' new at playing guitar. In fact, I wouldn't even say I "play" just yet, because I'm still learning the basics of chords and scale patterns. The information that you shared here is so helpful. I've been wondering why my acoustic-electric has been going out of tune, as I'm tuning it. I'll be spot on with each string and then by the time I have completed tuning them all, at least the first 5 will need to be tuned again. It has been both baffling and frustrating. But now I know from watching your video, that I need stretch the strings as I go to make sure that I don't ever tune down. For the most part, I have been tuning up as instructed, but I didn't know that if I go past the center into sharp, that I should not stop directly on the sweet spot, without going past it again, over into the flat side. I am going to look for the stringing video that you mentioned to see if I'm doing something wrong in that department too. I have a feeling that I may learn that I'm not supposed to take all of the strings off at once. I guess we'll see. Thanks again for explaining everything so clearly and thoroughly. I'm going to subscribe right now. You've earned it!

If you take your guitar from the hot trunk of your car and then go inside to play in a place where the AC it's on ...you will have tuning issues for a while until the strings will climates to the new room temp.

@rockongoodpeople
@rockongoodpeople Жыл бұрын
Hello there and thank u so much for checking out this video - really appreciated. On ur guitar not staying in tune - check the items that I mention in this video first. Be sure you are tuning properly and tuning up to the note from flat to sharp. Also make sure the strings are not old and dead - old dead strings won't stay in tune that well. Also check there are no rough spots or burrs or ridges in the nut slots that the strings run in - sometimes the string can bind up in the nut and slip out of tune. They make a product in a tube nut sauce or graphite that you can put some in the nut slots to help reduce binding if that is happening. Also check that the tuning gears are tight and screwed on tight to the neck. Try all these first and let me know Iftars hat helps. And be sure to take a good look around the channel as we have tons of killer content and lessons lots of fun stuff. Enjoy and stay tuned - lots more content coming soon. All of my nightmares came back from a guitar I started on 16 years ago and put it in the case until this week. Replaced the nut as the factory nut was trash. The problem remains the same even though a new TusQ XL nut and new roller trees were added. The problem is the damn thing will not stay in tune for even one note. Squier Stratocaster from hell. Oh, and you would think it would go flat for the obvious reasons you listed but no, this thing goes sharp. Strum, sharp, retune, and even if I hit only one note the strings around it will have gone sharp as well.

Can the type of bridge effect tuning? I have a strat style but dont use the tremolo at all. Should I buy a strat with a fixed bridge?
@rockongoodpeople
@rockongoodpeople 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jim - yes, the bridge can effect tuning - if its a floating bridge and if you are really working that bar hard or if its way out of adjustment. But if its all set up properly and its a quality instrument and if you are not using the bar then it should be staying in tune. So you may want to check a few other things also per this video.
