The stock exhaust doesn’t sound great, it is to sharp, and you hear manly the engine sound and the ticking of the valves. The Akrapovic Exhaust gives a dealer grounch but is not that much louder, but still sounds way better, but is to expensive, and furthermore if you tip over, there is no corner protection as on the stock exhaust, which is mighty handy (I experienced it myself, $100,- repairs versus an new AKRO-Slipon). That is a big disadvantage from that very expensive Akro-slip-on. I maybe if you take the BD-Killer out on the stock exhaust for a better sound, but that’s quite an operation, but still better because of the better protection … if you tip-over the bike, or even worse slide it over a grave road.

Every time you see Birch on a 790 is has an akro pipe.

@@philwilliamson3370 not his personal 790R which the only mood he has made is changed the wheels out for 690 wheels because they are narrower than the 790. He told me himself at one of his clinics.

Hi Man, I put one on but also replaced the mid-pipe with an Arrow KTM 790 Adventure - Racing Mid Pipe from Rottweiler performance. Sounds great after that and runs better. Mine actually ran worse (Noticeably Richer) with the Akra and the standard catalytic converter. Also solves the intense heat issues. Also relatively cheap to do, no mapping required according to the KTM dealer I use

@@GeoffBarnard Hi, Geoff, agreed I also doubted it run a bit worse with Akra slip-on =( ... good to replace the mid-pipe I think it will improve the performance a bit. But if I can choose again, I definitely go for SC project =PPP

@@mandaikoh yep I originally was going to go with the SC project but as it was an insurance claim couldn't make that work, happy with the combo now though. A deep rich throaty sound without being excessively loud, just about perfect for noise volume

JUSTIN JOHNSON Usually with Akra there is a bolt or a single spot weld. Get rid of that then use some pliers to wiggle it loose. Or grip it then tap the grips with a hammer.

Oli King so there is no bolt ???? So where’s the weld spot? How was yours that you did? Don’t see where any of these for this model have the bolt under rubber nub? So you grabed your with vice grips then beat it out backwards with hammer??? 🤷‍♂️

JUSTIN JOHNSON Not sure. Mine was a different bike. It had a bolt under the rubber but but the new ones are spot welded. I don’t know. Don’t hit it with a hammer though without first knowing if it’s welded or not

A agree that riding off-road in nature ... you don't need noisy exhaust. But one advantage is that if you scratch your exhaust during a fall, there is a repair-kit from Akrapovic for about $ 250,- so you don't have to replace the whole exhaust, like you had to if you have a original exhaust, that saves about 50%.

what did you smoke, the akrapovic has definitely a deeper sound, and doesn't sound that sharp as the stock, and an other advantage is that there is a little bit more torque, but the bike needs electronics anyway to keep the traction off-road to a usable amount.
