I quit music for almost 10 years. I was going to full sail to be an engineer. I opened a studio in like 2008. Had it going for a few years. But life and family made me have to change up my life and give it up. I got back into it again and I built a nice home studio. Got an awesome setup. But nobody to chill with and make music. I was almost ready to give it up. But yall videos keep me going. Wish I had a crew like u do. It is what it is. But thank u bro

I'm in Hernando fl. Outside of Tampa. And to be 100 I really have tried meeting people. I guess it's cause I'm old lol. I keep meeting cats who want to just use the studio. Which is cool if we vibe but im a bit eccentric when it comes to using the equipment. I have had people come in and just twist knows and push buttons. Swear they knew what they were doing. And almost blowing my speakers out. Or they want to smoke in the lab. I dont smoke tree no more cause these days this weed will keep u paranoid as hell. Im used to regular weed. Maybe dro. Not this crazy shit the young ones are smoking i dont mind if u smoke. But not in the lab. And keep drinks off the gear and such. But they dont care. They didnt spend thousands. . I just ask for a bit of respect when using the equipment. And then I get those cats who are like make me a beat record me mix me and when I make it ill get u back. But then I hear their music and it's not anything to write home about. Then to top it off I spent almost 90 grand on my schooling. Full sail then school of f.i.r.s.t. and I forgot so much shit I feel like a newbie. Then when im stuck I don't got noone to ask. I am in a dozen groups. But it takes days to get an answer. Or they are arguing about dumb shit.lol. I know I am making excuses it seems. I aint trying to I swear. I built a heck of a lil studio. Bought really decent equipment and got so many plugins. Sometimes I feel like I jumped into something I'm just to old for anymore. Ok rant over

Sidechain the instrumental to Gullfoss on the vocal and limit the processing to the midrange. Turn only the recovery up to taste to get the vocal to sit on top of the insturmental. It's essentially the reverse of sending the vocal to soothe 2 on the insrumental. Do both for some serious control!

I love when youtubers do vids about stuff that I actually own (I own Gullfoss for some years now). I like the Live plugin on my mix chain and the master one on the end of my master chain. It just makes it pleasing to the ears & that makes a huge difference vs the squashed max sound bar result. P.s. +/- 12 recover 12 tame is a sweet spot. I believe the people of Gullfoss shared some time ago or it was Decap from KNOCK when he made a video about it lol. Either way, when you put recover and tame around the same number it works great! Always use your ears tho, God bless

@HelpMeDevvon I'm usually good with mixing quiet tracks meaning soft sounds and a soft voice but when it comes to mixing louder tracks meaning very aggressive sounds along with an aggressive rapper, is where my mixes fall flat. I've watched a lot of your videos and always see your tutorials on softer songs then what I'm usually getting in my studio. I'm not talking about mic levels or recording levels just mixing. Maybe I missed the video or you can send me a link.

Why is it all the greatest records of history, hip hop R & b, ETC,, didnt use all this processing? if all these plugins was hardware,, you would be using damn near 50 hardware units or more in a mix... what has changed so much in audio? i digress,,, GREAT VID AS USUAL!

Moments like these remind me how much I hate the fact that KZfaq encodes and compresses our uploads! It's so difficult to hear the differences from A to B when you're showing us what Gullfoss is doing to your vocals! I can definitely hear a difference, but it's so damn subtle that to me it simply sounds like you added an EQ boosted around 1500 to 2000 kHz. What other plugins are available that you would compare Gulfoss too? I'm going to buy Pro Fab Pro Q 3 in the near future and I'm wondering if Gullfoss is a similar plugin to Pro Fab?

First off you musta copped that new m5 Mac Studio to be running that many instances of that plug in lol. Also did you know you could cross over the red lines? Like if you only wanted gulfoss to work the low and high end and not the middle? And lastly normally it’s recommended that the plugin is used as first in your mix bus. Not tryna be the “style police” but I was curious if you knew some of this stuff. Anyway great video per usual.

I knowe it can bee confusing but the name of this plugin is in icelandic and is named after a waterfal in iseland and in transelation it meens in englis golden waterfall becus gull meams gold and foss means water fall and so youn know i only know this becus i am icelandic

It’s similar to the feature on ozone 11 but obviously ozone 11 does much more as there are multiple independent modules to use.

Soothe exists to suppress RESONANT frequencies. My understanding is that Gullfuss suppresses DOMINANT frequencies, while also boosting DOMINATED frequencies. So, Soothe is used to remove annoying sounds and Gullfoss is used to give a more freq balanced and clear final product.

Soothe 2 suppresses resonant frequencies that are really harshly poking out the mix -> in a way an adaptive dynamic eq. gullfoss flattens the eq curve in series to resemble pink noise (all frequencies sound the same) -> basically a multiband compressor in series. gullfoss DOES NOT add character to your mix, and sound brighter by as mentioned flattening out the frequency spectrum and since music is bass-heavy that’s why it gets brighter.

Soothe is basically doing the “tame” feature on gulfoss. But they do sound different. Gulfoss does resonance/dominant frequency suppression and masked frequency boosting. Soothe only does resonance suppression for the most part. The algorithms obviously aren’t the same and there is a time and place for both plugins.
