Why your Wing Chun will fail on the street | The Truth
What to build your Self-confidence? Start now: bit.ly/2GDOyYA
Wing Chun martial arts master teaches How to defend someone pushing you. Real Martial Arts Master teaches students to destroy the Boxer, Muay Thai fighter and Wing Chun fighter using basic headlock defense.
Hi,
Master Wong here.
Let me ask you some questions…
Do you want Self-confidence and are you ready to improve your health and coordination?
Wouldn't it be awesome if you could get rid of fear and learn to defend yourself? What if you could instantly download Wing Chun into your brain? These are questions I used to ask myself as well.
Just imagine if you had that Wing Chun Kung Fu skill, what would you do with it? Would that instantly change your life and health for the better? Unfortunately, Wing Chun Kung Fu isn't as easy as inserting a cord into our brains to download the information like the Matrix. You'll have to find a good Master if you want to learn correctly. Even if you find a Master that could expedite your training, it's going to take years to hone the skills that you envision.
Talk about "Wing Chun Kung Fu overload" . . .

I used to practice Wing Chun for a couple years and I was all about form and positioning in practice with my friends and family and sometimes it works and sometimes it didn't it but then I realized that what Bruce said is what Master Wong said.Learn to adapt while applying the concepts of what has been learned when possible,and yes it won't be pretty or traditional.

@Salty Tech say that to the many parents who have lost their children from school shootings. America, the land of the free has the most prisons in the world and regulations over it's citizens etc, this isn't the day of cowboys and Indians. Also for those other fools who compare knives to guns you are repeating the same nonsense like sheep it's like comparing a gun to car deaths it's just completely insignificant. My final opinion is that the old swords and knives were honourable, shooting defenseless Indians and then making a man made law to say everyone is allowed a gun literally destroys your own freedoms and doesn't help anyone. Make love not war.

Great video master Wong! I think strick adherence to any fighting style can be problematic. Case in point, in HS I wrestled, my friend had a blackbelt in Karate. He was unable to overcome his training in that art, and lost to me every time. Although if we had only done Karate, he probably would have kicked my ass.

LIFE107, FAMILY, FITNESS, BOXING, TRAVEL & HEALTH The problem with any one style is that it exposes itself to vulnerabilities of the polar opposite. When you incorporate 2 polar opposite styles, it makes you a superior warrior because it covers exposed weakness that you will know how to handle. BJJ and Winn Chun are two styles that are very superior together. Top fighters usually have these 2 along with something that includes elbow and knee strikes.. I think you know what I am saying..

Wing chun starts at limb contact: sticky hands. Other than, it all consists of narrow strikes; highly effective at certain conditions. I get deeply saddened when I see “Boxing vs Wing Chun” competitions. What the heck is that lol. It all skills. Would you try to run into the sea? Or swim into air too? Well I am a swimmer, I would try to swim in the air to prove my art is effective lol.

Master wong your improving very fast Very honest vedio as well. I will be pleased if you read the whole comment. And wing chun work's Specially good in the standing clinch for manipulating the arms of the opponent and creating openings for short punches and elbows And chain punching may work if you Combine it with some boxing headmovement and foot work Simply it will look like wing chun version of matrix(handsdown) style of boxing. And yes WING CHUN works well. Have a good life.

In my school we were taught to focus on keeping the distance correct for wing chun (using very fast footwork) we called this distance judgement. So instead of allowing the opponent to change to a grappling art, constantly pulling back to keep at a w c distance. Similar to how Bruce Lee fought. In my experience it also exhausts untrained opponents quickly and makes them uncertain their blows will land (often they won't) Your thoughts on that idea, master Wong?

Hey sifu Wong. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge. Im doing Aikido and want to mix it with wing chun. My sensei recommended me to reach the black belt before thinking about mixing (otherwise, i will make a mess of concepts and techniques). Do you agree that? I think there are a lot of similar concepts. I think i will reach the black belt as a better martial artist if i study both styles at the same time. What do you think about that?

12:25- how to use Footwork in situations Like this? If an opponent throws quick fists with real Speed and Intention at you, im Sure it will fail, If you try to Block all those punches. But also i dont think your Footwork is fast enough to evade everything on the other hand. Specially using classical eastern fighting stances where you stand Low in your knees. The only sensible option seems, to find or create a window to use a dominant attack. But how?( again, how important is Footwork?)

Good news! I have convinced my freind to abandon wing chun. He has 3 years of experience in it. I have 4 years of bjj but only 3 months of muay thai experience and barely any striking sparring....he is more athletic then me aswell. We talked about martial arts and my issues with traditional martial arts. So we ended up getting padded up and did some stand up sparring. Basically I went easy and it was clear I was going easy, he had issues at all ranges and I think he hit only one kick...which I checked and it hurt him. He did the usual thing saying 'oh, it's me not the art, I just need to practice more and be faster' we have sparred more since then and...yeah he has pretty much abandoned it now and started to actually do more kick boxing.

0:48, 3:12, 8:52 how can you say nobody fights with hands like that? You have professional MMA fighters that do extend their arms (in a non-kung fu way). Like Valentina Shevchenko and Conor McGregor that partially extends their arms out, and Jon Jones that fully extends his arms to patty cake with his opponents.

What would you do about a young adult male who put a young adult female in a rear sleeper hold, sending her unconscious for a few seconds, as a response to her jabbing him during a training situation? I'm becoming involved with a youth centre that has a few older people like me with a bit of experience instructing younger people. I was not present at the time but I feel like it shows serious lack of self control requiring expulsion from the system. I am not the centre leader but my opinion will be taken into account bearing in mind that this is all very informal.

Wing chun guys lack choy lei fut (People think isolated, i think that’s the reason of failure) that’s why they get beaten with narrow stance in a distance fights lol. If there are no arm contacts you get sucker punched in the face with mansau wu sau narrow stance. There are no style style, all martial arts are segmented approaches. Only reality is distance, height and interception. Do not try to label your fighting lol. Reality/situation would not have to fit your narrow standards, you have to put yourself and fit into reality/situation.

If you really understand about wing chun then you will realise that what may SEEM to be 'elements added from other styles' are really just advanced level wing chun. Eg. In the third [advanced] wing chun form you have hooks, elbows, torso bend (which can be applied to bobbing, slipping, takedowns); etc. So in that close-range bit he could have countered with headbutt, uppercut, knee or elbow. I would have expected any actual wing chun practitioner to have at least said "elbow". Also, what many practitioners themselves don't realise is that one hand forward is OTHER than even supposed to be any form of 'guard' - but really a way of being 'cocky': exposing an opening, hence tempting the opponent to strike first. (Originating from back in the day when only the privileged studied wing chun: being able to afford to keep well-groomed fingernails, hence the ability to form a fist). When everybody else had to resort to eg. clawing ! These were the days when some nowadays useless technique such as 'chain punches' would actually work. I Never use chain punches, and wouldn't even class that as wing chun. My double-punches always have torque into them, and even do the proper hook & uppercut as well as slipping [have improved a lot since my training videos, btw - those were from 2014]. Nowadays I know the real uppercut and also 'pure' hook (combined with slipping motion, like the way Mike Tyson does); Not just corkscrew hook. Slipping motion also required for the cross - REAL cross, Not just punching from the back hand ! Very important and most devastating counter used in boxing (when opponent starts to expose his chin); and thrown at SAME time as his oncoming lead. That was taken from Jack Dempsey's book, but many of the mechanics outlined in that are identical to wing chun. For example, the 'Falling Step': dropping one's weight at same time as darting forward [perhaps the PROPER way of doing those 'chain punches' - otherwise will lack any power]. But also used to attend local boxing gym, with the intention of getting some sparring in - tho one thing I don't like is the use of padded gloves, which inhibit proper closing of the fist. The fist is the point where all one's power will be emanating from [also emphasized in Dempsey's book]; so of vital importance. Yet both Dempsey & Tyson seem to express an innate fear of getting into a fight without their gloves on (due to bad habits developed via constant use of padded gloves). Still, I would FAR from trust an opponent who says "OK then: me with gloves, you without" ! That would actually be cheating and almost the equivalent of using a weapon. It should be both with, or both without. As, although the injuries of bare-knuckle boxing may SEEM more gruesome - more deaths have actually occurred via use of padded gloves, due to the damage being more internalized. I don't really follow UFC so don't know many of the fighters, tho am aware that some top MMA fighters do have wing chun background - eg. Yi Long [one I have actually heard of] !

@Devi_Shammuramat
@Devi_Shammuramat 4 жыл бұрын
Are you referring to the 'leopard fist' ? This was originally quite difficult to intellectualize about, before just confirming that - but in order to form an actual fist, one would have to make one of those before EVERY punch [otherwise risk of hand injury]. I am quite used to doing that since 2010 (as can be gleaned via my training videos); Never took much notice of before then, particularly during my time of training at boxing gym - even tho I had been directly told in wing chun classes. And which is why I'm sure most people who play glove sports won't bother (out of love for their glove sports). Tho can tell you it made my punches over a hundred times harder overnight, once I'd remembered and decided to implement that ! Which was two years after leaving boxing - tho did Not leave by choice [weren't enough places due to influx of new members, after club got new equipment in 2008]. But used to train 2 - 4 hrs per day by myself at home, anyway. Not done much training since 2014.
@Devi_Shammuramat
@Devi_Shammuramat 4 жыл бұрын
In wing chun (as well as in Jack Dempsey's book); fuk sau is used to defend against an uppercut or shovel hook. We also Never strike using the big knuckles - even in Jack Dempsey's book, he says the 'powerline' emanates via small knuckle [tho due to the padded gloves, he recommends actually making contact with the one NEXT to it]. But if closing the fist properly, ie. doing a leopard-fist first: then safe bare-knuckle connection via the small knuckle can be achieved.
@Devi_Shammuramat
@Devi_Shammuramat 4 жыл бұрын
But anyway, we've all heard the phrase "attack is the best form of defense" - and wing chun schools seem to be divided on interpretation. The 'fake' wing chun (who are always getting battered by Muy Thai, MMA, etc); are those taking the WRONG interpretation of, "just go all-out using chain punches and forget about any defence". While those with the correct interpretation [ie. using the structure of attack motions to aid defence]; are either secure enough in their ability to other than need the validation of winning competitions - or go on to become exceptional MMA fighters with wing chun background, such as Yi Long.
@Devi_Shammuramat
@Devi_Shammuramat 4 жыл бұрын
That element also comes into it a lot, brother - conflict initiation, who is in the right / wrong, etc. But when you were saying the fuk sau, back of the wrist can be a hard striking surface with that - but is Not generally used like that. It is usually used as defence, with inside of the wrist. Bruce Lee also liked to adapt it to preying mantis shape (with wrist down, fingers forward); which James DeMile showed us in seminar, 1991.

Win chun works cuz is based on physics, you must take the principles and apply them to real life. Amazingly a master is telling you an art based on close combat doesn’t work on close combat. You dnt fight in such poses!! You learn like that and then apply it on your style! Like Bruce lee! You telling me lee was wrong too?

Me as a brown belt Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu guy, my experience is that the stand up guy should stay away from the grappler.. But me allso as a Jeet Kune Do person, experience says to keep the grappling guy standing by chasing you.. So it is in fact a good idea to have both stand up & ground game, staying away from the mindset of looking pretty in movement.. Instead, think balanced out - not perfect or pretty movements..

@Tai Chi Tube Yes, I've heard this before allso - not naming what is the right nor wrong way for the grappler to defeat a stand up guy, or vice versa - to me it all depends on the grappler or the stand up guy..

@Tai Chi Tube Yes, that's what i was meaning to say as well.. I was allso meaning to mention to you that I've done a Yang Tai Chi course for like 6 weeks & I'll tell ya I've never felt such a calmness of a mindset & in body in my life.. It's what helped me get into Ving Tsun (Wing Chun) & Wushu (Kung Fu) Wich later landed me into Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do to wich i study with all his original students.. If it weren't for Yang Tai Chi, i would've never have met Kung Fu - if there was no Kung Fu in my life, Jeet Kune Do would not have existed to me.. So thanks to the system of Tai Chi for the broden of my horizons & helping me find my place where i feel at home at in my life, i trully feel like I've grown with it.. ________________________________ Instead of trying to be perfect in all that you do in life, Try living with your imperfections for they matter most of all.. - Bruce Lee -

@Tai Chi Tube True, that's the way Jeet Kune Do is set up - Bruce was unlimited in fight systems, he put a little bit of this & a little bit of that to make anyone a skilled fighter based off of his concepts.. I've been in the fight systems since i could walk & pick up a stick, 15 yrs in the Indonesian knife & & Filipino bladed weapons 10 yrs in Muay Thai, & Western Boxing - allong with Jeet Kune Do 10 yrs in Aikido & Another 10 in Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu/no holds barred I'm very happy of where I'm at in my life as far as goals in the fight systems go..

Jeet Kune Do is most effective on the street because taught by Bruce Lee to generate a rapid reation, unexpected and powerful according to the opponent or opponents. However; as you say, we must constantly train and have a clear life. Free of styles to have an optimal adaptability and sense of opportunity. Thank you for your teachings Mr. Wong

@petergosezenya5212 4 жыл бұрын
I was just asking because that is a very unprofessional thing of Rogan to say given how big of an audience he has. Really can not say Rogan is fake either as his skills are definitely legit. That being said I didn't think Master Wong was fake as I have seen a few forms he has done that a man that had his name on a small pillar at a temple in China taught some of the same Tai chi. As I understand this is standardized for the lack of a better term. Yang style Tai chi, I believe. Also didn't Master Wong participate in a tournament or exhibition a few years ago, in France? I may have the wrong country mentioned however I do remember someone mentioning that they were really impressed.

@Tai Chi Tube I was trained in a Shaolin class from age 6 to age 21. One of the Tai Chi forms wasn't taught back in the 1980s and 1990s as it was for some reason pushed aside, however is taught now. It's the Yang style, same as I have seen Master Wong do. The way Master Wong does this form has alot of season to it. What I mean by this is it appears he has known this form for a long time. As far as I understand that particular kata is one that was standardized, for the lack of a better term, by the Chinese government and explain how so many people know it. For some reason the guys that practiced in the 1960s and 1970s generally knew it, but it was kinda pushed to the side for awhile. I did not learn it until a few years ago and was taught Tai chi Chuan in its place. I bet there are other katas that we have in common. It's really meaningless, however interesting.

Wingchun is terrible when wrestling on the ground, that's when you use BJJ. Which is coincidentaly the last video before this. Hmmmmm...
@leonda4817
@leonda4817 4 жыл бұрын
Wingchun is about principles, it doesn't really forbid anything and it doesn't prevent you from learning to wrestle. Some stuff does work on the floor tough (kicks against the standing opponent that simultaneously protect your groin for example, or chain punching when hes on toP). Any martial art sucks if you never train realistically (or sparr).
