If you have never heard Cynthia, don’t say there are better vocalists out there, she is absolutely S+ tier both broadway and outside.

It's because there are absolutely better vocalists out there, there's nothing wrong saying that, she's one of the best but not the best, there are 8 billion people in this world, someone is bound to be better than other person at something.

Omg… I was just writing about that. Clearly this guy didn’t do his homework before doing this video. He implies she has no musical theater experience and isn’t a trained vocalist… ummmmmmmm… the woman has won a Grammy, Olivier Award, and a Tony for her Musical Theater performances. Very versatile voice… she can completely change her placement for the role… look at her “A Peice of Sky” video and then watch her “Take Care of this House” video. She has complete control over her belt, mix and head voice.

Going back to the book [read the damn book], the ONLY difference between Animals and animals is the power of speech. On broadway, with quick changes needed, it made sense to humanize. In the book, they are animals. Period. The musical tosses a lot of the important plot points out the window or gives it a throwaway line or mini scene. The musical became more Glindafied because Kristin Chenowith and less the story of the WWoTW, which is the book. Looks like they are going back to the book, hence the two parts. That makes me happy, because the meat of the book was Elphaba's activism that gets her branded Wicked. Minimized over the friendship in the musical.

Yesss I’m so glad they are doing that in this movie, a lot of the driving points for elphaba thoughts process in the book was left out in the stage. Let alone the class trip to watch the donkey show…. Lol

Not just "I'm Here" like comments are mentioning ALSO go listen to Cynthia sing "Alfie" at Kennedy center honors for Dionne Warwick. Its OBJECTIVELY impeccable because as beautiful as a description it is we're not just gonna slap on the term "soulful" to this Artist she's an earnest storyteller that respects the story and trains her instrument to be a vessel for the story.

Cynthia Erivo is an extremely versatile singer and is a Tony award winning musical theater actress… Google her… she can do more traditional semi-classical musical theater sound (full head voice and mix). Then she can do full R and B the next moment. Truly she is a remarkable singer… I was skeptical too but then I watched her videos… see her “A Peice of Sky” or “Take Care of this House” performances - there is a reason she won a Grammy, Olivier Award, and a Tony for her Musical Theater performances.

In just viewing this one trailer they have masterly combined the original classic with the novel and the Broadway play! Genius!! The Broadway play is my top favorite I've seen. Definitely not waiting for Netflix for this. I must see it in theater with other fans. Another great reaction video!!

There aren't many in the business with stronger vocals than Cynthia Erivo. She's a singer first. She even recorded Zendaya's part in the demo for The Greatest Showman. Please watch her 2016 Tony performance for The Color Purple. The way she belts high notes is effortless.

This is my favorite reaction, and I've watched A LOT of them. Also, you have a really nice voice! The only thing I disagree with you on is your comment on Cynthia Erivo. She has one of the best voices ever and I don't agree that they could have found a better singer. I recommend that you go and listen to her sing "I'm Here"

To add to that I suggest he watches videos of her singing “Somewhere” or “Take Care of This House” and “A Peice of Sky” which show her ability to sing a range of styles.

It’s super cool you know an Elphie alum! The movie is a mix of both the novel and stage, so Dr. Dillamond being without physical human characteristics is true to the novel, where ‘animals’ don’t speak, but ‘Animals’ do.

Great to see an intelligent reaction to the Wicked trailer, as so many have been annoying 😂 I've never seen the stage version of Wicked or know anything about it really, yet this trailer had me hooked, looks like it will be epic!! Btw Lego are bringing out sets in October based on the movie and they did their own trailer! Same voiceover for trailer but with Lego figures! Its really cool actually!!

Dillamond is an a actual Goat in the book. Animals are not anthropomorphic the are still Animals till the lose their ability to speak then become just....animals. The Capital letter is the distinction.

actually dr. dillamond is actually just a goat that can talk with humans. that's the differences of Animals and animals. i don't think the broadway released uin 2003 has the luxury or technology to make an actual goat move on stage that's why they went with a half human half goat

I think you have the wrong idea about Dr. Dillamond and the animals in Oz. They aren't supposed to be animals with human-like features. They are simply animals who have the ability to speak. This isn't elaborated on in the musical very much, but there are animals who can't speak (animals) and animals who can ("Animals" with a captial A). I can understand how the stage adaptation kind of confuses this point by making Dillamond an anthropomorphic goat, but it's a lot clearer in the book.

Great reaction video! Big fan too. but to your point of the animals ( goat or monkeys ) are supposed to be animals that talks as oppose to human like on musicals as is a live show. In the story, the key point that woke Elphaba to help/change is when the ‘animals’ are silent. Just my two cent worth.

Cynthia Erivo is an all time voice. Like, her Colour Purple is otherworldly, and there is a reason she’s one of the few West End to Broadway crossovers. From a technical perspective, there are few superior to her working right now.

@IsaacKuo

The answer to this question would be a spoiler for Wicked Part 2 (as well as the musical). I think it appears in part 1 as a sort of flash-forward ... it's like a framing story where we start with the "present" and the rest of Part 1 is a flashback showing the "past" leading up to it. But yes, showing the water and her hat is indeed portraying the aftermath of the scene in The Wizard of Oz you're thinking of. What happens is a bit more complex, and it's one of the major differences between the original book version of Wicked and the musical Wicked.
