A wide range drivetrain refers to a big cassette with gear ranges that is capable to get you up on steep hills and down on the road.
The 9 speed cassette features cogs from 11 teeth to 50 teeth.
Divide the number of teeth on the largest cog by the smallest, then multiply that by 100, that gives this 11-50t cassette a gear range of 454%.
9-Speed 11-50t Cassette (50T, 42T, 36T, 30T, 24T, 20T, 16T, 13T, 11T)
Anything around or over 450% can be considered wide range.
Paired with the SRAM X7 shifter and SRAM SX-4 derailleur with 1:1 actuation ratio.
The SRAM SX-4 measures 95mm long and it has been proven to give good clearance in fitting a 11-46t cassette with hanger extension.

This is going to make a much wider gear range compared with the old 11-28t cassette.
The hub is a 10-speed hub, therefore, no spacer is required to fit the 9-speed cassette.
A hanger extension is required to fit with the wide range cassette.
Tighten the B-Tension screw to extend the gap between the guide pulley and the bottom of the cog.
Adjust the limit screws if necessary.
Let’s take a look at the gear ratios with the 30t chainring and 11-50t cassette.
Gear ratios ranging from low 0.60 to high 2.73.

The 1x chainring works beautifuly with the wide range cassette on mountain trails and uphills.

I have a wider range with my 11-40 rear cassette and triple chainring 42-32-20. However, for trail riding your setup would be great. I ride long steep logging roads and paved roads to get home. As always, no one setup works perfectly for all rides. Thanks for the info on this particular setup. Very useful for us all.

any chainring you want will work i had a 38 for a while but eventually went down to an oval 32t and a 22t right now im running a 3x with 24 34 42 chainrings it all works great you want to make sure the chanline is inwards enough for the chain to run smoothely on the biggest cogs, i had to use some spacers to do that and then it seems to work great no matter what chainrings i run

@johnsuarez1404
@johnsuarez1404 2 жыл бұрын
That's a problem with your chainring, not your cassette. You need a smaller chainring.
@johnsuarez1404
@johnsuarez1404 2 жыл бұрын
@jon dough then you don't understand chainrings. 11t should always be the smallest cog. The chainring determines what the max gear ratio is.
@johnsuarez1404
@johnsuarez1404 2 жыл бұрын
@jon dough you could argue that that's a better design, but that's not how cassettes are made. The standard for the smallest cog is 11 teeth. Ergo, op needs a smaller chainring.
@danieljonsson8095
@danieljonsson8095 Жыл бұрын
It's a casette.... YOU decide what gears you want. If you want your smallest to be 20T, simply put a 20T as your smallest. It's a casette, not a freewheel. You're only limited by your derailleur's ability to switch the chain between the sizes. Other than that it's all up to you.

i have a 9 speed 11 to 50 goldix cassette, it has a slightly smoother shift pattern than the ztto one in one of the cogs but besides that is the same and its pretty fuckin great especially for the price, i dont like 1x though, too much friction and finnickyness and not enough range using this with a 3x atm and ive become addicted to the low low low gearing im yet to find a hill so steep i cant climb it even when im towing a trailer and pannier bags short cranks and oval chainrings make steep hills eeeeven easier ive got plans to build what might be a world record for gear range drivetrain in the future when ive got the money gonna run a 11 to 52 13 speed with 22 32 42 chainrings gonna have more gears than i know what to do with lol
