My wife and I have holidayed there for many a year, forget the stories of ghosts, so much garbage on the internet just to get attention. The reason that its very quite, apart from holiday season, is because not many people live there. We are both in our seventies now, and walking the moor isn't good for our knees, O to be young again!

It is beautiful, but aside from a few tourists there are no people about. It left me with a sense of isolation. Maybe that feeling lends to the idea that Widecombe might be haunted. Such complete quietness and solitude feels creepy to some people.

@@cherryrai17: In general, Dartmoor is an isolated place - home to those who live in the small towns and villages within Dartmoor National Park, home to the inmates of the remote prison, and home to plenty of wild ponies. Widecombe-in-the-Moor, as its name suggests, is in the moor.

@@colinclay7168: Don't be put-off by what others have to say. If you do visit then go on the day of the annual (and famous) Widecombe Fair, held the second Tuesday of September.
