GIK really is some of the best in room treatment with options many peoples taste and use case. in my own room i have lots of absorption only, too much for 2 channel listening for sure. got stuff on 5 surfaces in various thickness. but the more you absorb the more pleasant and silent the room becomes, works wonders for movies and some types of music. not to mention silence pc electrical noise or static noise from subwoofers.

Yeah GIK acoustics have a lot of options design finishes that can look nice even in a living room, bedroom or secondary room. Too much absorption in the room though will suck the life out music and also movies. It's recommended in a home cinema or music listening room for about 30% of the room coverage to be acoustic room treatment. You can even get away with using multiple subs instead of massive corner bass traps. A mixture of absorption and diffusion will produce a better audible difference than just using absorption alone. Especially in the small regular sized rooms most people have. Hardly anyone has large 40 feet by 30 feet rooms where diffusers wouldn't be needed as much.

I have my own listening room, I did buy a few acoustic panels from GIK but they didn't do much, and to cover the whole room including shipping to Sweden was around £6000. I took things a bit further and built my own panels and created a 10cm gap between the wall and the panels. Did you try the Tots in your main listening room?
@PursuitPerfectSystem
@PursuitPerfectSystem 4 жыл бұрын
You can hear what 8 of these did to the TuneTots at 5pm it's pretty significant. No TuneTots are designed for a table top use and I am getting really good sound from them now all coming in videos soon
@lrama6999
@lrama6999 4 жыл бұрын
The panels do exactly what is advertised, they are tested and perform according to these tests. It is much more likely you either had way too little treatment in the room or you chose the wrong products for the wrong task maybe? Also an order of that size would ship free to Sweden. Anything you build yourself will always be cheaper than buying a commercial version of it but claiming the panels don't do much I think is really misleading.
@C--A
@C--A 3 жыл бұрын
William Turner did you A to B test the GIK acoustics panels against your DIY made panels with them in the same placement positions? Also you can still create a 10cm gap between the wall and panel with GIK acoustics panels. It's easily done using the right mounting tools, so unfair advantage if your DIY ones had a 10cm gap and the GIK acoustics ones were flush against the wall. I'm guessing it was just regular sound absorption panels bought from GIK and also DIY built? GIK acoustics have a wide range of different panels, hybrid absorber/diffuser, curved PolyFusors, quadratic mathematical diffusers. You can't judge performance unless you test using a mixture of their panels.

What a joke. Anyone that has their speakers where one speaker is up against the side wall and the other isn't is a sure sign this guy is clueless about room acoustics. You want each speaker to have equal distance away from rear walls and side walls, otherwise you are going to have an unbalanced sound. If you need bass traps go to www.acousticfields.com they have the absolute best low frequency absorption products on the market. they have models that are more effective in the 30hz to 50hz range. It makes the GIK bass traps look like toys. GIK's products only really that effective in the 80 to 100hz range and not that effective at 30hz to 50hz. Remember, the bass frequencies like a kick drum, low bass notes on a bass guitar, keyboard, etc. are in the 30hz to 50hz range and those require a LOT of mass, cabinet depth etc to absorb. otherwise you were absorbing the harmonics and not the fundamentals of these low frequencies. I don't work for Acoustic Fields. I'm just a big fan of their products and I've been in one of their rooms to verify how good their products are. In terms of build quality, all of their cabinetry is like fine furniture not something you buy at Ikea.

I am sorry that is not true at all because in my main listening room which is fully kitted out acoustically with GIK panels they have been very effective at reducing the bass ringing down to 50hz and below - this is an office and an office system and therefore like a normal person concessions have to be made as a result - Your comments read like an advert and I will likely remove them shortly
@Oneness100

@@PursuitPerfectSystem My comments sound like an advert? Your videos are like an advert. I don't work for anyone, but you are making money from your videos, right? Look at the absorption coefficients of the GIK bass traps.. Their deepest cabinets are a little more than 7inch deep. Acoustic Fields ACDA 12 cabinets are about 16inch deep. That's over 2x the depth. Do you understand the concept of a diaphragmatic absorption cabinet? YOU NEED DEPTH, CABINET RIGIDITY, AND MASS. there are no short cuts. Go ahead and put a 50hz sine wave in the room. First take out all of the absorption products and go to the perimeter of the room and take measurements, then put one unit in and see how much down in dB's one unit does. Then do the same with 40hz, then do the same with 30hz. How much attenuation does one unit do in a room? That's a little project for you.. I'm sure you can do that. You will learn something from it. If you don't understand these types of products in what it takes to really go after low frequency problems in a room. The GIK are tuned more for 100hz as that's the frequency range they work well at, in the lower frequency range, they tank in their effectiveness the lower it goes. It's just a fact. I've seen their measurements. They are simply best suited for 100hz, not 30hz to 50hz. The Acoustic Fields, ACDA 12 is tuned to 50hz and they are over twice as deep, they have a dual front wall construction and they a much denser and porous fill material and the cabinet itself is inert so there is little leakage in the back of the cabinet. The GIK product weights around 20+ lbs versus cabinets that weight 200 to 300lbs. The Acoustic Fields are the most effective products on the market out of ALL of these companies, RPG included, which make nice products. They don't even have anything that does as good of job with low end. I've been looking around at the various products on the market for about 7 years now and I couldn't find anything that can match the Acoustic Fields ACDA 12 cabinets. I've talked to the owner of Acoustic Fields and he's had various other competitor's (GIK included) products to compare against at his factory. That's why he decided to design and build his own, everything else didn't work that well. He's tried practically every type of fill material in his cabinet designs and compared with Activated carbon so he knows how effective other fill materials are in the same cabinets But to go after the low end, you have to have lots of mass and you have to have a deep cabinet. It's physics. No, it's not an advert any more than your videos are. I've been in his rooms and heard how well his products work. And is your room flat down to 30hz +/- 1 to 2dB around the room no matter where you measure from? What cracks me up about those panels you have is the front is about 50% or more reflective wood and only the slots have absorption. Kind of a silly product design if you ask me. It's reflecting energy a lot of energy when it should be absorbing energy. I've seen the absorption coefficients and they aren't as effective at 125hz as the Acoustic Fields foam. That you can compare with their measurements yourself. I think they are more of a gimmick product for people that have wives. :-)

@@PursuitPerfectSystem "very effective"???? What does that mean? when you take measurements around the perimeter of the room and you look at the room's response curve. How much dB of 30hz, 40hz and 50hz do you have in the highest model pressure zones? How much does one cabinet attenuate those frequencies per cabinet? Have you taken those measurements?
@Oneness100
@Oneness100 4 жыл бұрын
@@PursuitPerfectSystem Here's something to look at. For the GIK Monster Bass trap. At 50hz, they do about 5 or 6 Sabins. The Acoustic fields ACDA 12 cabinet is at about 78 Sabins.. Do you UNDERSTAND? At 80hz the GIK is rated at 25 Sabins. At 100hz it's rated at about 23 Sabins. So it's actually more of a 80hz cabinet, not that effective down to 50hz. At 40hz, the GIK is rated at 3 Sabins, the Acoustic Fields is rated at over 44 Sabins… FYI, Sabins is a rating in terms of per square foot.

With a combination of different GIK treatments I have reduced the bass decay times down in my room to be much more linear and how I wanted them, so they have been effective in that regard - while still being able to move around in the room. Its been difficult to incorporate these treatments let alone treatments that are 16 inchs deep. I cant see many people in domestic situations having 16 inch deep treatments in their room and I am one of them who would, but I am the only person I know who would. I dont disagree with the data but to shun GIK's products like you have is missing that very important point and is totally unfair.
