Engineer Basel Manadil (The Hungry Syrian Wanderer), "The Adopted Son of the Philippines" 🇵🇭 is from Syria, where its capital Damascus is believed to be the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world, and where food is a way to preserve history and culture. He is currently in the Philippines and learned to love the culture, people and the food. He is vlogging Filipino cuisines, and some interesting places here in the Philippines, doing good deeds, helping the less fortunate kababayans, and caring for strayed cats.
Si Basel Manadil, o mas kilala sa tawag na Hungry Syrian Wanderer, ay isang vlogger sa KZfaq na madalas tumulong sa mga Pilipino at tinatawag ang sarili niyang Adopted Son of the Philippines.
Ayon kay Basel, siya ay mula sa pangatlong pinakamalaking siyudad sa Syria, ang Homs. Ngunit nang masira ang kanilang tahanan at magkagulo sa kanilang bansa dahil sa gera, napilitan siyang mangibang bansa.
Lumipat sa Pilipinas si Basel noong 18 years old siya at nag-aral ng kolehiyo. Nagtapos siya ng kursong Engineering sa University of Perpetual Help.
Isa sa mga dahilan kung bakit kinagigiliwan si Basel ng kanyang mga subsrcibers at followers ay ang galling niyang magsalita ng Tagalog o Filipino. Minsan pa nga niyang inawit ang pambansang awit sa isa sa kanyang mga KZfaq videos.
Sumali rin sa You're My Foreignoy contest sa Eat Bulaga si Basel noong nag-aaral pa lang siya ng kolehiyo.
Ayon kay Basel, nahirapan daw siya maghanap ng trabaho sa Pilipinas pagtapos niyang makapagtapos sa kolehiyo. Ito ang nag-udyok sa kanya upang magsimulang mag-vlog.
Kilala si Basel sa mga vlog niya kung saan siya'y tumutulong sa mga Pilipinong nangangailangan.
Ngunit kapag hindi siya tumutulong sa kapwa o gumagawa ng social experiments sa kanyang vlog, nag-eexplore din si Basel sa iba't ibang lugar sa Pilipinas.
Bukod sa sight-seeing, inaalam at isinasapuso rin ni Basel ang mga kaugalian at kultura ng mga Pilipino.
Minsan na ring sinubukan ni Basel mag-commute sa Maynila upang maintindihan ang dinaranas ng mga Pinoy commuters.
Mahilig sa mga pusa si Basel at maging kanyang mga pets ay Pinoy na Pinoy din: mga rescued puspin.
Tatlo ang mga rescued puspin ni Basel, sina Maui Boy, Maki Boy, at Milky Boy. Galing sa salitang 'makina 'ang pangalan ni Maki Boy dahil natagpuan siya ni Basel sa makina ng kotse.
