Thanks for that. Not easy to speak about your personal experiences and views. As illustrated, our memories of the Casino are personal to ourselves. Our age, where we lived, our mates, our stage of learning to dance and live life. For me it was a world of older, friendly, soul individuals to look up to and the buzz was, and still is, unrivalled. Dancing at the exhibition at the old WHSmiths brought it all back. Thanks again. 🕺💃✊

Is Tim Ash. the ninja of N.Soul record deals/sales/discoveries? Amazing level of memory, intuition and knowledge …… fascinating! Bonus = he’s from Stoke!

Amazing how this music never had ( did it..? ) the exposure or popularity in the south as it did in the north of England. I used to go to Alldayers and all-nighters in Stoke, Manchester, Preston, Leeds, Nottingham and Stoke. This genre was never played at the clubs I would frequent. I remember Richard Serling, Mike Shaft and Colin Curtis as being the top deejays to hear so I was told. It was not until years later that I realised that Northern Soul was exclusively played north of Watford… I am a Londoner who travelled up and down the country in the early 80s to mid 90s When i finally went abroad and started deejaying with people in France, Spain and Italy they regularly asked for Northern Soul music to be played. Fast forward to 2023, and this genre is still alive and thriving.

Rock and roll and rhythm and blues merging of British and American dancehall getting into the dancehall as age of 13 and 14 years old all you had to do is say I am with my Daddy and Mummy it was a faze faas moving journey to music and dance northern soul and having a Hot Dog 🌭 outside of dancehall after all night sweating needed something to burn in the stomach to regenerate energy good old days and knights working day and night
