One of the best games ever. I really hope Retro is making another DKC

It's now been 8 years since this. And it's still the newest standalone Donkey Kong game.

So I'm playing Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze right now.... I honestly have to stop and say the game is ABSOLUTELY flipping AMAZING. It was literally worth buying the Wii U just for this game.. The music... Such nostalgia.. Brings me back to my childhood playing the SNES Donkey Kong Country's..... Holy crap, BUY THIS NOW..

The Wii U was full of gems like this! Truly, an amazing console.

Today it's been exactly 10 years since this trailer was released and no new DK games yet! Please Nintendo, we need a new Donkey Kong game!

And now it’s back on the switch :)

I remember when I first saw this, I thought it was just gonna be a Returns rehash. Oh, how wrong I was. This is one of the most amazing games on the Wii U. It really has the feel of the original trilogy, probably partly because of David Wise.

This game is still one of the most beautiful, colorful, and relaxing games I’ve ever played. The music is absolutely awesome, sometimes when I’m outside I listen to either the first world or the fourth one. Really hope another DKC will be announced in the future, but I am happy this got ported to the switch.

Donkey Kong Country Returns was to me the BEST PLATFORMER I'VE EVER PLAYED! Yes, I've said that, I'm sorry but I loved it, it' so fresh, replayable and tons of collectables fun and perfect platforming!

Got the Nintendo Selects version about a week ago and am going to start it after work tonight. Had a blast getting 200% in Returns, can't wait to do it with this one!

At the end when it says only on Wii U my mom walked in and asked if there is an ape in my room XD

I just dropped by to say that if you have Wii U but not this game, you should be ashamed of yourself. This game is phenomenal, music is gorgeus, graphics are over the top beautiful but most importantly: DKC: Tropical Freeze will challenge you. This game is pretty brutal. I still see nightmares about Bopopolis.

Nintendo gods. Please give us another Donkey Kong game on the Wii U.

Choosing this game over Mario Bros. U when I had to decide on my first Wii U game was one of the best decisions of my life.

This game is wonderful, everything about it makes for a fun and unique experience. The level design is almost as gorgeous to look as it is to play through. Every level is so fun and has fun gimmicks. The boss battles are somewhat challenging but very good, and the music is so good. It doesnt matter if you buy this game on Wii U or Switch, but I highly recommend this game to anyone that hasnt played it.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (2014) is one of the most greatest video games of all time due to it's fun, inventive, mind-blowing, exciting, thrilling, and challenging gameplay, graphics, and levels. It was decent. To this day I still play it and I consider it a classic. It never gets old.😍😎💯👍

Honestly Nintendo rehashes are all I need to keep me happy with gaming forever.

I've heard a million N64-era gamers weeping for something wonderful apparently missing from "the Nintendo of today". Am I the only one who doesn't see eye-to-eye with them * points at the above trailer *.

Nintendo needs to keep the flow of games to keep the Wii U from being irrelevant. This is coming February, Mario Kart in Spring, Smash Bros SHOULD come in during Summer, and a new Metroid or Zelda for the Fall season. I hope there isn't a huge gap from Mario Kart to Smash, because that would kill all the hype right there. If I was management at Nintendo, I would do things so differently...

I never missed the aquatic levels in DKCR, the game seemed amazing without them. But seeing them here really makes me remember how amazing they were in the original DKC games and want to seem them return.

I absolutely love the way the camera angle is set for this game. Adding that 3D is not only cool but also a plus for Nintendo. Great job man.

It's games like this that make me thankful this whole "sidescrolling platformers are outdated" era really didn't last much longer than a decade or so. In fact, with games like Donkey Kong Country Returns, Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, Rayman Origins, Rayman Legends, Wario Land the Shake Dimension, Mega Man 9 and 10, the New Super Mario Bros. games and many more, I would say the sidescrollers are where most of the platform genre's quality titles are found these days. Even on home consoles. Nintendo, UbiSoft, Capcom, everybody seems to be doing old-school platformers again ever since New SMB was such a succes on DS about halfway through the previous decade. And then there are many indie developers on places like Steam who create some fantastic stuff. And many of the old classics are available again thanks to Eshop, PSN and other services. Still love this genre just as much as I did 20 years ago.

They should also make a sequel to donkey kong 64 That'd be awesome!

What I don't understand is how Nintendo can add variety and soul to all their games EXCEPT the main Super Mario titles, because this is just beautiful.

The one thing I look forward to at the beginning of every Donkey Kong game is shaking the remote to beat up a bad guy, then jump out and start the level!

I usually hate swimming stages in most games, but here they look and feel amazing.

pass on this. wasn't impressed with DKCR and not really looking into buying a WiiU for a select few titles for the system. if nintendo wants to keep up in the market then they they should probably put their titles on cross platforms. I mean come on, Ocarina of Time on PS4 *cough Darksiders* would have been sick and would probably sell millions!

This game still isn't as good as any of the orignal 3 of the snes. They don't even have kremlins or king k. rool. It's too different. Also the graphics for DKC on the SNES at the time were mind blowing.. These are mediocre for its time.

King K. Rool was the main villain in donkey kong king of swing and Donkey kong jungle climbers. He was also in super mario sluggers, all three games were made after rare's departure. Nintendo owns the King K. Rool character, but the people at retro simply wanted a different enemy for their version of DKC.

I believe he means for it to be a play on words, as it sounds like "Donkey Kong Country returns to you," as a nostalgia reference. After all, they even got the original composer from the first Donkey Kong Country and everything!
