I'm a 51 year old nerd and nerds are awesome. Why? Because nerds embrace life, feel life, savor the passion and the glory. We could care less about the boring normal life, but love to feel our blood pumping through our veins. Normal folks have no clue what that feels like to fangirl/boy over Avengers or Dr Who or Lord of the Rings. We embrace our loves as if they were a part of us and yet the world can't figure it out. It's kinda sad when a friend asks me to get drunk with her so that others can tell us what stupid things we did. I just think, really? And miss ComicCon or a Dr Who festival? that's where life begins. Don't give up, my amazing nerds, geeks and dorks. You are amazing. Live life to the fullest. HUZZAH!!

This will definitely be my "First day of school" intro video for every single class I ever teach. My first words to my kids will be "Welcome to Ms. Ramos' class, watch this video!"

Yari Ramos i wish I had you as my teacher. School wouldn't have been so bad.

kimdkus I'm sorry you didn't find a teacher to connect with. However, that doesn't make your life experience any less valid or valuable. Hopefully you are kinder, wiser and stronger than you otherwise would have been, had you not gone through difficulties and lived to talk about them. I, like Mr. Wheaton, was mistreated for being a "book worm" and having straight A's, even by a teacher or two. Every difficulty in our life can teach us something. It is up to us to take the positive lessons from them and grow. God bless you! *Hugs*

Yari Ramos Thanks! yeah, I'm kinder and stronger. I teach writing now through a writer's group and I try to be kind to everyone. It taught me a lot. :) And God bless you too!!

Wil gave a very similar version to a little girl at the Kansas City Comic-Con, made everyone in the audience cry, then laugh. I wish everyone could take the time to go see Wil speak, he is a great man and totally worth the effort to hear him speak.

This has been linked to my FB page with the following message: "My kids are watching this the very second they get home!!! This woman at a convention asked Wil Wheaton to explain to her newborn daughter why it's awesome to be a nerd. How fantastic! His answer brought tears to my eyes. I hope my girls will understand this and take it to heart. We try to instill this in them on a daily basis." I hope many more view this and find just as much joy in those words. Thank you Wil Wheaton!

Thank you so much for posting this! I was just telling someone the other day that I'm proudly raising my 2 year old daughter to be a geek because being a geek means loving what you love and never apologizing for it. And here's my middle school crush saying the same thing. I can't decide if I want to squeal or cry.

I just had a daughter myself (5 1/2 weeks ago) and I will somehow save this for posterity so that she can hear these words when she's old enough. I don't want her to feel put down by people telling her she can't be nerdy about something, or that she's not into the "right" things, OR that she's too old to be a nerd (I get that one...I'm not even 30), because nerd is forever! It is a thing to be proud of and it's a part of who you are...you can't just stop doing it.
