Finally someone who see the difference in style of you into swac style of playing yes valley all day but I come from a different style of playing. If this was Norfolk or ncat going against valley you would still have guys think that valley stole the show. I listen to the rudiments being played and came up with my decision. Valley was groovy but not technical at all. But it’s all percussion and I appreciate the art of both.

I have heard middle school kids play more technical parts than the whole line played. This is one of the Norfolk vs Alabama state battles. People have different styles they prefer but honestly dci style of playing vs someone like JSU or southern style is based off your personal taste. Me I seen this as wu has more technique but mvsu had somewhat a better groove.

@@Thelightskindan they quints as well. It again 2 different styles. A lot of y’all guys like that swac style of playing but it doesn’t come close to lines like ncat Norfolk or even scsu. I appreciate the 2 different styles but it not my preference when I have taught middle school kids that can play mvsu parts. Check out Atlanta drum academy. Kids play much more complex snare parts than what mvsu played

@@CDAtheCPA style not drum. Even if they had the same drums they valley prefer the low hanging drum style rather the the level drum with a more precise technique

A battle is a battle people going to pick sides. People have preferences when it come to which style the more so enjoy. It’s all art just different expression of the art itself. My only opinion is that guys who grew up on that swac style of playing seem to not like the dci style of playing and hate when people point out that there was no technicality to the parts being played. Not sure if the don’t like it because they can’t play it or just don’t like the style all together. Me I like swac style but prefer something I feel is more challenging.

Exactly. If I'm making movies? Valley. If I'm judging skill sets? WU.

I agree with the quints part. I've only been playing for 7 months with mediocre quint teachers, and it doesn't look that hard

Technicality vs groove. All depends on your style but I prefer wu. Coming someone who prefers to listen to dci lines rather than a line like JSU. I listen to the rudiments being played and wu snare line had more complicated parts that mvsu. Playing open diddles doesn’t count as a technical part

@@joshuarichardson3612 I have to disagree. The complexity and rudimentary vocab from both snare lines were even here. A little more sticking came from WU, but that’s it.

@@bigmeek1911 listen with head phones mvsu snare we’re playing basic diddles. Coming from someone who has been much involved with more complicated line. (Norfolk state) I’m listening to it on a much deeper level. Again it’s 2 different styles and I appreciate both but nothing mvsu played was complicated.

I doubt that. It’s already been done by scsu Norfolk ncat. Even Johnson c smith came out on a more dci level of playing.

Most HBCU lines on the East Coast play with the modern style. Tonal bass drums, multi-tenors with six drums, high-tension tuning, etc.
