When this video was taken, the Band Led Zeppelin had only practiced 2 or 3 time together. They were all only about 19 or 20 years old in this. They had no idea they would become the world's #1 Rock Band less than a year later. They were very raw in this, and were still working out the kinks, and trying to figure out who they were as a Band. Thanks

What's really on show here, is just how accurate a guitarist Jimmy is. Passionate, yet beautifully controlled tone, pitch and dynamics. Even the string scrapes are super -controlled. Also how in tune with the rhythm section he was. Edit: also good to see the "Dragon" telecaster on show here. Lovely little axe...

I love this version of it, because it's a great example of playing with reckless abandon, controlling it just enough to not fall off the edge, but wild enough you actually appreciate Robert's off key squeals, Jimmy's wild solos, Jpj driving hard, finding Jimmy's changes and keeping with Bonzo too, and Bonham, overplaying only works for guys like him and Peart. " Bonzo this is a slow blues extension..." " ok BOOM BOOM BOOM BABOOM"

Right on Jimmy Rose, saw Zep 3 times in New York and Plant and Page about 4 times, also got to see Page with the black crowes at Roseland ballroom twice. It was remarkable to see Page in a few thousand person ballroom from 2 feet away. I was sick as hell with the flu but made the journey from my sick bed into Manhattan to see Jimmy Page. I was so sick and then I said to myself, I can die anytime but you don't get to see Jimmy Page in a tiny ballroom very often. Get the fu*k out of bed and get to Penn station ,so I did!!! Both nights!!

Led Zeppelin had a great manager, Peter Grant. He had been a professional wrestler before getting into managing bands and concert tours. He made sure that the band got most of the money on tours and worked out really strong record deals for them. Led Zeppelin was one of the few bands that didn't get ripped off by the record business.
@ftlpope

But they were experts at ripping off other song writers, as here, and fraudulently claiming songs as their own.
@greenbeatsred
@greenbeatsred 2 жыл бұрын
@@ftlpope As you know it’s about who owns the rights to any particular song. If the original artists sold their rights of ownership for a recording contract, very common, that’s how the record business got down. You had to play the game. Through information from Tommy James and the aftermath of Jimi Hendrix death we learned that the Mafia busted into the recording industry and controlled much of it.

The thing about Zep, and not many bands can say this, is there were no weak members. All four members were at the peak of their game. IMHO, they shifted the musical standard and the musical landscape. Another band like that is Rush, no weak members. Zep did it all and did it best.

This was an outstanding vocal performance by Robert Plant. I love the beginning and the ending parts, but personally have never cared too much for all the theatrics in the middle parts (like the orgasmic sounds in Whole Lotta Love ), although respect to to those who do love that. Personally I love it best when Plant. just sings soulful blues, straight up. I feel simple is best where his amazing voice really shines. Some will certainly argue the point, but that is why he is my 2nd favorite soul/rock singer, right behind Steve Marriott who was young Roberts inspiration when Steve was in Small Faces. They are very close in vocal abilities, But Marriott has an ability to sing across a large range, at full chest voice and yet keep it pitch perfect with a slight grit which makes his singing so soulful. In Small Faces, it would rip you heart out when he sang soul covers and give goosebumps As always, this is only my opinion, of course.

@@robertphelps1574 Thank you Robert for backing me up! There has been lots of debating over the years as to who was best - Steve, Robert or Paul Rogers (also a fantastic singer). Although Steve did play very energetically while in SF's, Steve plays a more bluesy guitar and Jimmy is definitely much more theatrical. Both were excellent. I'm sure you are probably aware that Steve was Jimmy's 1st choice when he was forming The New Yardbirds which became Led Zeppelin, but Steve turned him down, thus leading Page to Terry Reid, who recommended Plant. It all worked out for the best - can't imagine Zep without Robert.

I just want to give credit where credit is due. Jake Holmes was the original writer and artist from 1967. Jimmy Page later took credit and said he wrote it in 1969.
@cindyfalstrom7231
@cindyfalstrom7231 2 жыл бұрын
I was hoping some one would mention that. Jake Holmes sued and I understand they settled out of court. Although he always changed the arrangements to his own versions, Jimmy had a tendency to cover other people's work without giving proper credit. Even though "Dazed and Confused" suits this arrangement, it was not original to the band. It begs the question - what distinguishes a cover from a steal? Giving credit, changing the arrangement, or what??
