It's time for another review with a dive into Wild Arms for the PlayStation. This Japanese role-playing game is one of the best in the genre and a personal favorite of mine. Join me as we go over the full story of this video game and talk about what makes it such a memorable JRPG!
Also, please forgive some of the blips of my sprite in this video. Editing this really stretched my computer to its limit and I didn't see some until after it was rendered.
Welcome to Fireside Gaming! We release a new video every couple of weeks. Look for us to upload between Friday and Sunday!
We do a little bit of everything here when it comes to games but one of the biggest focuses is on retro gaming. Even so, don't be surprised if you see us pump out a video for a new release here and there, or even take a look at games still in their unfinished states.
If you want to chat us up on social media, you can find us at these links.

Im sure you've heard already, but in the wierd case you didnt: there's a double kickstarter campaign right now, from the creators of wild arms and shadow hearts, they are making spiritual successors of both franchises (Armed Fantasia & Penny Blood), it would be cool if you could make a video talking about it so you can spread the word thanks!

I love this game to bits and pieces and it's one of the most defining games of my life...despite the fact I didn't get to play it as a child. My brother wouldn't let me touch his systems as a child and I only got to watch as long as I was quiet. Despite that, this game left a _deep_ impact on my psyche. I know this game isn't perfect, but it's _my_ childhood game alongside Pokemon and Ocarina of Time. Also, one correction at 30:56 The Guardian's name is RafTina. Raf-tina, not Rafina. I've actually developed her as an entire character despite how little presence she has in-game and I love her to bits and pieces.

The biggest draw of this and also somewhat the second game is that it has this feeling of there being "more" The world and it's history feels mysterious like you are only scratching the surface. It is all intriguing and makes me want to go on to discover more.

I hate to be that guy with corrections but FFVII released in September 1997 in the US. Which was several months after the release of Wild Arms. I remember this vividly because I purchased Wild Arms in April the day it came out. I was anticipating the release of FFVII but never played a JRPG before. I thought Wild Arms would be a good introduction, and it definitely was.

It's all good and no offense taken. The mistake is mine. At least it still gets the point across about Wild Arms coming out first. I just didn't want anyone thinking it ripped off FFVII's story.

FF7 didn't release in the US until September 7th, 1997. I was confused when you gave the US dates for FF7 and Wild Arms, because Wild Arms was the game to introduce me to JRPGs, and I had already beaten it by the time FF7 released and I went ahead with preordering 7. Had to look it up to make sure my memories as a 9 year old weren't wrong :P

Gunna be a nerd here. But Hiades is a nod to "Hyades" of King in Yellow fame- which predates Lovecraft with the eldritch horror bits. Alhazad(Alhazred)'s mask may also be a nod to it. WA used a tonne or random Mythos but a lot of it was lost in translation.

I love the story, music and pixelart on this game. I think they should remake only the battle system and make it in 2D like the one in FFIV PSP or Chrono Trigger. Or keep the 3D battles but change the Battle graphics to something in between Final Fantasy IX and Alter Code F and release it on Nintendo Switch or something so the new generations could enjoy this wonderful game.

When I was planning how to cover the story I decided to keep all of the side quests in one section so that I wouldn't have to break up my narrative of Wild Arm's story multiple times. I knew it wasn't exactly right for the order things happen in but I felt it made the video flow better. :)

I get what you're saying but I can't find any evidence to suggest one game crimped from another. Not really. Rudy doesn't have amnesia and identity issues like Cloud. He doesn't know he's a homonculus, but that's about it. Cloud on the other hand is a normal kid who got in over his head. Celica and Jack don't really have any cross over to any characters in FF7. You could compare Jenova to Mother and that's pretty fair, but I don't know where you're getting a 1 to 1 from. Even breaking down character themes, main story themes, etc. there's no crossover besides the main villain being an alien that underlings refer to as mother.

Alter Code F changes too much of the core story and the dialogue. Also it still doesn't have any voiced dialogue which is weird for a game developed in the PS2 era. It was created by the same team that made Wild ARMS 3. A lot of people do like Wild ARMS 3, but I am not one of them. It takes a lot of cheesy approaches to the themes of the original game which is something I personally did not appreciate. The combat system is just a copy of Wild ARMS 3's combat system, it wasn't very fun for me to play. But the original game is a classic. It's a shame the remake in my view did not do it justice.
