i live in the forest of dean and the sightings can be sporadic.. one week you'll see some maybe 2 or 3 times in one place then might not see them for a few months.. with this warm weather its best to see them very early in the morning or just before sunset .

It seems some people on the comments forget these are wild animals they will still charge u giving the chance. These have probably been fed by someone before that's why they are curious.

I got chased off by one in a far corner of Forest of Dean years ago, never ran so fast in my life, when I stopped running I turned around and could see the big alpha pig stood on a rise looking at me as if to say " Yeah these are my woods boy " !

you should never ever run. let THEM go, not you, it could startle them and lead them to attack. If you have to, throw a rock at it. (Or something like that) but yeah, 1st rule, never run. when you do feel like you are safe to go, show your hands, walk backwards slowly, until the bore forget about you.

Don't talk rubbish. Boars are stupid animals. That's why they are prey animals. I've lives amongst them in the Malaysian jungle. They were easily the dumbest creatures I have seen. I spooked one whilst out trekking and ran straight into a tree 10m in front of it, bounced off, did the same thing again 2 more times before, on the 4th attempt, it ran around the tree. No sense whatsoever. As for top 4 smart animals, I couldn't say without Google, but humans, dolphins, various whales, tigers, lions, elephants, ants, various monkeys and apes, racoons, wolves, bears, etc are all clearly smarter than boars when observing their behaviour, and I'm sure there's dozens of animals smarter than boars if measured scientifically, i.e. number of folds on outer surface of their respective brains.

Usually, they do. That's amazing that they approached so close, especially with piglets.

Why?
@stevehove26484 жыл бұрын
My guess is they've been fed by people before and were thinking it might happen again. Normally they are timid.

Very good close footage but I’m quite surprised the sow didn’t get aggressively protective of its piglets. I wouldnt cross a field of cows with calves and they’re domestic. I guess as you were there first and kept still, while they came to you, they didn’t see you as a threat.

She was showing signs of getting angry. The hair on the ridge was standing up and if they had become more erect and she starts chomping her teeth, she's telling you she's about to charge. I hunt wild boar in the US and can tell their behavior at a glance.

So cool to see wild boar in uk, I’m planning a trip to see them this year, bringing camera traps to help increase chance of having a photo.Where my french side of family lives in France(we live in uk) they have lots of wild boar, but they are incredibly elusive.You’ll find dug up earth and tracks a plenty, and occasionally you’ll hear them from my uncle’s garden at night, but very rarely will you see one.That’s mostly because they get hunted regularly each year by anyone who has a hunting permit, so are almost entirely nocturnal.Never seen a wild one myself sadly, did have a big one right next to me in the dark walking back through vineyards last x mas, didn’t see it but certainly heard it and felt it move.
