Mostly off-road cycling route. Loop around historic Wessex, the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Alfred the Great. Connects four of England’s National Trails: North Downs Way, South Downs Way, The Ridgeway, and Thames Path. Connecting some of England’s most iconic sites.
Athelstan was an Anglo-Saxon king who lived from 894 to 939. He is regarded by historians as the first King of England. Athelstan was the son of Edward the Elder and the grandson of Alfred the Great.
English largely descend from two main historical population groups: the West Germanic tribes, including the Angles, Saxons, and Jutes who settled in Southern Britain following the withdrawal of the Romans, and the partially Romanised Celtic Britons who already lived there.

Hi Rich, I for one certainly appreciate the amount of work you do to make these videos. The planning and physical effort is amazing. As an avid cyclist, I am loving the cycling episodes and I wish I was young enough and able to do what you do. However, being able to "ride along" with you is incedible and I thank you for that. The fact that you don't "promote or advertise" items is a great benefit to me as I am also on a slim budget and not being sucked into needing some new gadget is a must for my viewing style. Just being able to enjoy the scenery with you is a wonderful thing. Maybe an extra camera showing more than just the view from your chest mount would add some variety to the video, but this is not a criticism, just an observation. Thank you for letting us enjoy this wonderful landscape that we would otherwise miss. Really looking forward to the next section.

Hi . What mapping are you using on your phone ? I just use a Garmin device and use a pre loaded route to follow. Yours looks very detailed. We attempted the KAW last September 7th to 10th . We did a clockwise loop from Reading. We had to make a decision after the first night at The Devils Punchbowl Mindhead. We ended up doing a more direct route the next day to Winchester. Re-joined the route the following day only to bail at Larkhill shops due to heat exhaustion. We went by road to Devizes to try and give us more options for food and drink rather than go across the plain on tracks. Day 4 was cooler but we were down on moral and energy so decided to to a more direct route across to Reading using a mixture of NCNs and canal towpaths. I'd love to attempt it again but not in a heatwave !!

I use Outdoor active with OS maps which cost about £30 a year to use. Sorry to hear your attempt failed. It's hard in the heat on the downs in exposed areas. Lucky the worse of the heat I did mostly in the woodland out of the sun. Fantastic trail well worth trying again. Should have next episode out soon. Thanks you for watching.
