Join me for a late October forage in my local woodland pasture, it is a beautiful day and there is lots of wild edible plants and fungi to find, and some medicinal mushrooms too! Please see my notes on species below :)
Acorns; Contain high levels of tannins so must first be prepared before consumption
Rose hips; Contain itchy hairs that should be removed before consumption
Golden Spindles; Non toxic but not usually recommended for consumption due to their tough texture and bitter flavour
Amanita Muscaria; Contains ibotenic acid and muscimol, failure to prepare properly for intended use may result in vomiting, dizziness, vertigo, anxiety and lots of other unpleasant feelings!
Please remember to never eat any wild food, be it plant, fruit or fungi, unless you are 100% certain of its identity and always cross check your resources. Always do research before taking herbs internally, especially if you are pregnant, have severe allergies or a weakened immune system.
Finally, remember to take only what you need from places of abundance, and always leave plenty for the wildlife too.
