bro, the coconut vendor is right. In jaffna, it is 200, as it get transport from Southern states. Its usually 50 more than colombo. Also don't let the vendor choose the coconuts. You choose. That coconut is very marutred, the shell hardened, hence no sweetness and less liquid.

Never heard of Deval, unless it's a misspelling of Sri Lankan Devilled dishes. I have some sympathy for the coconut guy as they don't grow king coconuts in the north , so it has to be transported from the south & that's reflected in the price. Maybe he could have picked a bigger coconut. But to be fair you agreed on the price & cannot then ask for a reduction in price just because it didn't have enough coconut water, which he may not have been aware of. If you had picked any other fruit & then found out that it was not to your taste, would you ask for a discount ?

Enjoyed your vlog in this part ofJaffna. I watched your last vlog in Jaffna where there was trash. First time i've seen, hardly no juice in a coconut. Disappointing. A good tip not to put ice cubes in a fruit juice. $4.00 meal, amazing. As always Myer, thanks for sharing.

Actually we will pay 200 even it dosen't have enough water in it, because he might got it to the equal whole sale price , but we choose the coconut every time , however he could have choose a proper coconut as a vendor

Myer, you drank a king coconut and found it has little juice. Reason for this was, it was a cooking type, but not for drinking. If coconut is left on the tree for too long, it will become from drinking to cooking type. And it's shell become hard and white flesh inside also becomes hard to produce cooking flakes etc. Best way to find this to shake the coconut before they cut it. If you hear the water inside then it's for cooking, and hence has less juice.

King Coconut man didn’t scam you. How he supposed to know howmuch coconut water inside. More the coconut is riped/seasons more it shrinks’and price up north slightly more expensive than south, so Rs.200 is reasonable. Guy in Gall with milk powder scammed you for deffo. He would have sold that milk tin back to the same store for half price. Anyways safe travels.

The mishap with the king coconut vendor would not have happened if both of you interacted in one language only. The vendor and the locals would have expected most coconuts to be devoid of liquid in this hot weather. What a crime English was abolished as the official language in 1956.!

good to see Tamilians living in peace in Sri Lanka. but that wasn't the case for long time. There was Sri Lankan Civil War from 1983 to 2009 there. during this time at least 70k(up to 120k) Tamilians have been killed. in the over 1 million tamils ran away from Sri Lanka to India to escape persecution. India gave free shelter and food for decades. after the civil war stopped they are going back to Sri Lanka. still at least about 120k Sri Lankan Tamilians living in India .

Most of the upper caste Sri lankan tamil left the country moved to abroad. While low caste Sri Lankan tamils moved to refugee camps in Tamil Nadu. Most of the low caste Sri Lankan tamil fleet by boats and ships to aboard. While the upper caste Sri Lankan tamil were privileged. Even the LTTE killed Tamils along with the SL army. LTTE kidnapped low caste Sri Lankan tamil kids to join LTTE, money laundering, looting banks, stealing jewellery from temples, using tamil civilians as a human shield during the last stages of war, attacking bus, planes and many more. It was hard for most tamils to live under LTTE and SL army ruling.

I wouldn’t call it wild market but all trying to make money . those tower built in British colony time Jaffna is 2 nd largest city in srilanka but Sri Lankan government doesn’t have national interest. Sugam means well. Eppadi. Mean How I am sure This clothing store owner is boasting

The coconut "thembili" seller's language at the tourist is not acceptable. The tourist bought it to satisfy his thurst and there was less water in it. Both may have disagreement but should not settle the issue with bad words.
