Wild Rides and What Happened. Find out what really happened in some of the craziest car mishaps at the Drag Strip you have ever seen. I've included some of my best wild rides videos I have ever taken and I'm breaking down what I either know for a fact happened or what I'm guessing happened on the pass they made down the Drag Strip. So I get to sit back and be an arm chair quarterback for a bit and review some of the footage and put it in slow motion and zoom in to point out some things that I have seen.

The best wheelstand of all time has got to be when Jay Leno took a ride across a parking lot in the "temporarily" restored hemi under glass barracuda. That one is hard to top!

Happy New Year, and although these crashes and blown engines are fun for the crowd, as a racer, we hate when this happens during these expeditions because it only means our elimination rounds will be that much later while the crews clean the track.

At 1:00 into the video, check out the Schwin Stingray bicycle in the background. As a kid in the 1970"s I cut grass one summer to buy one. $69.00. LOL

My second car was a 60 Chevy Impala with a 348 ci in it. It wasn't able to do that though.

The chevy trucks, as well as other wheelie cars twist to the driver side because the engine rotation applies enough torque to roll the car in the direction of engine rotation.

Funny with the diesel - good thing IT WAS DIESEL. powered - the oil catches on fire at those temperatures, but the fuel does not.... Also they should name a skatepark after that pinto for that "rail slide"

Hello Tom, that Olds Cutlass owned/driven by Jason Shubert(?) had been rolled over a FEW times as I recall at least once if not twice it did a complete barrel roll on the track surface! I think I read he owns a body shop? If true, it's a good thing because I think that car's been damaged/destroyed a FEW times...

Yes he has destroyed it a few times, and he does own a body shop. He must be amazing at body work, his car looks perfect every time he is out there. Great guy as well.

Chances are the rear end in the Valiant was off 1 or 2 degrees. Maybe not enough to notice, but enough to angle it when it was wheels up. Another wheelie of note; JJ Da Boss driving a 65 Nova on the street in Memphis against Big Cheif. He lost the race but stole the show. Great content and comments!. Thanx!

Well, the problem with the Pinto is that the one rear wheel was backing up and the other probably wanted to go forward. You can tell by the right side back up light being on.

Those old Chevys have an “x” frame instead of the usual ladder frame. They all seem to twist on launch.

Torqe vectoring. The way the forces work with rotating bodies the car to want to naturally twist. Like a helicoptor with not tail rotor or how motorcycles stand up straight when they are rolling. IF the engine rotated the other direction, it woud life the other tire first

Sounded like the Pinto actually had a stuck throttle, you can tell the accelerator was hung wide open even after he wrecked

Being about as rookie as I can be to this stuff, seems that a "window" on the floor for driver to see, would be beneficial here. Since he / she is nearly 100% reliant on a spotter, even a 1/2 second delay is all it takes to crash bad.

The last car, at the end of the burnout the front wheels are locked up, so turning the steering wheel to the left didn't do anything.

"LIKE" button has been torqued to the manufacturer's recommended specification. "CLICK". God forbid you should be running around with a loose "LIKE" button !

I'm not really interested in seeing the rare Impala being twisted around really but I don't think I've seen one of those for many years I think if I did it was a 4door.not the car you see to often maybe that one's fiberglass I don't know.

Is too much torque over chassis can take and then twisted the chassis and bodywork ! And after the wheels and suspension touch the race track is totally slimming and smashed the suspension and chassis !

The one with the 2 chevys, they did that because the momentum of the wheelies carried the trucks onto the back bumper enough to take the weight, and traction, of the rear tires causing the trucks to react like that. Damn good saves though.
