Among the unique species that exist in the Rann of Kutch, a meso-carnivore stands out called the Desert Fox. Many may confuse this fox with the African Desert Fox (Fennec Fox) or even the Indian Fox, but the Desert Fox or the White-footed Fox is a subspecies of the Red Fox. Although similar looking, they can be differentiated by the color of their tail tip. This petite white-footed fox is a true survivor in the harsh conditions of the desert. Unfortunately, the population of this endearing species has been steadily declining over the last decade. Besides human settlement and encroachment, these species are also susceptible to picking up diseases from domestic animals which sometimes proves to be fatal for them. Catch more on The Desert Fox on ‘Wild You Were Sleeping’ docuseries brought to you by The Habitats Trust, co-produced by Trippintoe Media.
