Here it is, my review of the new tent I bought a few weeks ago. The Wilderness Equipment Space 1 tent is a roomy 1 person tent which can be bought as a 3 or 4 season tent. This one in particular is a 3 season tent. Watch for more details! I had a bit of fun filming this video, especially when a thunderstorm rolled over!

I really enjoyed this review video. We bought a Wilderness Equipment Tent (different model) and it was hard to find reviews like this on the net. Looks like a great tent! Particularly liked your cockatoo backing track 😂

This tent comes in a 4 season inner and has a footprint that increases the water mm rating, it also comes as a 2 person and a 3 person design, I would recommend if your strong enough to grab a 2 person tent as rolling a mat up in a heavy rain is quite tricky when your sitting on top of it in the tent trying to stay dry and keep your gear dry. Another good tip is you can Lower the inner of the tent and just stay under the fly to pack it up and then you just put the wet fly in the front or side pocket of your pack to save everything getting wet (* this is only if you have the foot print under it). I am also not sponsored but I have the three person, my cousin has the 2 person and my wife has the 1 person, all of ours are 4 season inner's and have footprints. We are all happy with them. Keep doing gear reviews (after you use things), knowing how well things perform in Tasmania weather (4 seasons in a day) makes a big difference to most other content you'll find on youtube ;)

I considered getting the 4 season version, but I don't really go out on multiday walks in winter owing to other commitments, so I didn't think it was worth it (plus I'm a warm sleeper so if it was simply a case of being cold, I may get away with it). Yeah I looked at the footprint, and that would definitely be a handy way of packing up in bad weather, but it's probably too late for me to get a Space 2 haha (in relation to the air mattress issue you mention).

Good review mate. You should definitely do more of these. Nice tent and reasonably lightweight. I'm using a Mont Bivi Bag for my 1 and 2 night trips at the moment but will be looking to get a tent for longer adventures soon.

Cheers Rick! I don't think I've ever used a bivvy bag before, how well do they cope in heavy rainfall?

@@LucasChamberlain I haven't gotten caught in heavy rain yet but it's a heavy goretex bag so it will keep the rain out, The problem is condensation once the bag is fully zipped up that might cause a bag/quilt to gradually get wet over multiple nights. Personally I haven't had this problem as I always sleep with my head outside the bag. I carry a small ultralight silnylon tarp for extra shade/shelter if needed. Bivi bags aren't for everyone but they are brilliant for cutting weight on short trips and it's great being able to stare at the stars - I slept on the beach at Rhona a few years ago and woke in the early hours to be absolutely gobsmacked at how clear and bright the sky was - an experience I would not have had in a tent. Worth a try in my opinion.

Thanks Fillipp! I am considering doing a video where I describe the contents of my pack on multiday walks and discuss all the aspects of them. If I choose to make that video, I'll definitely be talking about the air mattress and sleeping bag.

Thanks Lucas - nice review I purchased the full nylon inner (winter) version which I think is better for Tassie!
@LucasChamberlain
@LucasChamberlain 4 жыл бұрын
No worries 😀 and Thanks! Yeah it probably is the better choice haha, my thinking behind getting the 3 season version was that I rarely have an opportunity for overnight/multiday walks in winter owing to commitments on the weekend (umpiring). 👍

Nicely done review. The design and size of this tent looks very similar to the slightly more premium Mont Moondance 1 by the way.

Yeah, I like that design - I'm all for small tents, but there has to be room for a ~60 litre backpack to be in there with ya... that looks pretty good!
@LucasChamberlain
@LucasChamberlain 5 жыл бұрын
It's probably the perfect size for me; the Exped tent had a huge vestibule (good for two people sharing), but even when I walk with others, they have their own tent. So a smaller tent seemed like a good idea

@@LucasChamberlain Yep - agreed - if I'm hiking with my daughter, yeah, I take the big Vango (split between us, so not too heavy) - but by myself, yeah, I've yet to find a decent small tent - mate of mine swears by Zpacks, others say "Buy a Hilleberg" - I'm heading to Victoria to hike the Alps in October, and will seriously look at this tent you've got...

@@richardstewart6160 *Aussie designed tent. They're made in Vietnam. If you going to the Alps Richard maybe look into the Wilderness Equipment Second Arrow. I've just purchased one for winter hiking, they weigh in at just over 1.8kg. Different design though to this tent, it's of the tunnel type.

The N Z Macpack Olympus 2 person tent I bought in 1984 served me well for many years until the floor became unreliable . The current import from Thailand apparently is not as good.

Maybe ok during warmer months but don't waste your money, completely useless in Tasmania during winter, condensation a major problem, venting totally inadequate and no matter how you pitch it outer fly contacts inner fly and channels condensation inside.
@LucasChamberlain
@LucasChamberlain 4 жыл бұрын
It's a good thing I rarely have the opportunity for winter camping trips! Which was part of my thinking when getting it. I have had the outer layer make contact with the inner, but from my experience so far, water has only found its way into the tent when I've brushed up against the fly when entering and exiting. Obviously that's still less than ideal, but at the moment I'm satisfied with the tent so far. I bought it with the knowledge that I am unlikely to use it in the colder months (certainly in alpine & inland areas).

I'm not sure what you're referring to?? EDIT: it could be the screeching of the cockatoos (i think from memory they were sulphur-crested cockatoos).
