Hey Derrick You were doing some hauling the Mail getting back to you JD… How wide is the width of your path that you plow. One of the other videos looked like y’all were plow ing 3 wide.

😂 Yeah, had to catch it before it did any more damage. The V Blade I think is around 9' or so.

How much of the USA do y’all travel to? It seem like a y’all are working a lot of different terrain. Also I know y’all work in any terrain. Have y’all ever lost a machine being burned up in the fire that was stuck?
@Wildland_Firefighter Жыл бұрын
Stationed at my county unit the majority of the time. Can be called to assist nearby counties and States if they need more resources. Usually, I go out West on a handcrew every summer. We've had a few machines get damaged from debris catching on fire in the engine/trans compartment. A few burnovers have occurred down here in the Southeast. Many of the times, the open cab dozers can be driven out after a burnover, but the enclosed ac cabs tend to get caught on fire and burn up.

I know there are a lot of factors involved but how long does an undercarrage last on those tractors? I can only imagine the butt puckering factor when you go into a wet area with a fire close by.
@Wildland_Firefighter Жыл бұрын
With plowing and harrowing firebreaks...they can get worn out quicker than saying someone using it to push dirt on a flat surface. I honestly haven't really measured the time span, but I just know the rails, pins, and bushings can get worn over time with riding our firebreaks.
@braddavis4472 Жыл бұрын
You definitely have to drop the belly pans out periodically and wash out the mud or they will rust all your hydraulic lines and cause a problem for you.Preventing problems with a piece of firefighting equipment that is going to save your butt is really important.

No wind and 50%RH, that burn spotting sounds a little suspicious, not that its impossible but it may have had some help

How do you like the 650j compared to your td15?
@Wildland_Firefighter Жыл бұрын
I like the TD15 for thick areas and big fires. The 650s and smaller dozers are good for tight areas where you can't push a lot of stuff! Thanks for watching!

@@Wildland_Firefighter I’m on with the Florida Forest Service and that’s 90% of our fleet 650J/K’s with straight blades and the fire plows they do remarkably well with our sandy soil

@Christopher Mancini I don't know how yall do it down there, I mean, we have basically the same fuel type (southern rough). I figured they would up yall more with bigger dozers. Those 650s were doing OK on the Hwy 121 fire in Nassau County when I went to help, but it seems like I covered twice the ground in shorter time than those 650s because of how I was able to move more of the trees out of my way. Those 650s could wiggle around, but again, they had to come back and push the trees you know .

Western Civilization exists *ONLY* because ordinary men were willing to do dangerous things. So the next time you see your neighbor's son Little Johnny with a towel tied around his neck standing the roof "flying like Superman", thank him for the courageous man he will become. ...and then call the ambulance! 👍

Take the silly trailer off what a headache that would be us Australians just have 2 dozers 1 d8 or d7 and a little d5 d4 to open the road
@Wildland_Firefighter8 ай бұрын
We use the plow due to our thick vegetation and root mat. Middle and North Georgia doesn't use it much and use more of their 6 way blades due their vegetation and root mat isn't as thick.
@kronickiller8 ай бұрын
@Wildland_Firefighter yeah it's a good idea. It's just seems to me to be a pest getting it tangled on trees a shrubs us Australians we just use to dozer 1 to make the road and the other behind cleaning it for the firetrucks
@Wildland_Firefighter8 ай бұрын
@kronickiller Your root mat might not be at thick as it is here. We can do that without the plow, but it's slower. The plow helps us make a firebreak fast and time is of the essence on a big wildfire.
@kronickiller8 ай бұрын
@Wildland_Firefighter I do agree with you their mate just a reminder us Australians do have the biggest bushfire in the world. Coming second Canadians
