@@russ8059 yep, lots because folks like you keep missing the point. And yes, Rep McClintock calling Wildland FF’s “unskilled labor” when he was in office visiting CA at a burned area.

@@D0praise I don't really care. Want better healthcare then get on cal fire. or any other county/city agency. Don't want to move? Find a local job with better health insurance.

Thanks Ian for the offer --I just hung up the uniform after 18 years of public service and need a short break. I'm sure I'll be back at it soon though as a volunteer or otherwise. --I usually can't stay away from the field for too long. What County?

Ive had many deep thoughts about public service, specifically forestry. , whether it be law enforcement to trail blazing i just want to be in the forest. My question is do you continue to see the shrinkage of jobs in the forestry and do you foresee new comers to the trade actually being treated fairly with a decent pay? Especially living in California... Edit: Basically, i need the deeds, lol.. Whats the "watch outs" i should look for

These hot shot crews need to be bigger then just a 20 man crew imo. Other wise you’re just burning yourself out.

Honestly it would be better to have 2 groups of 10 that have alternating jobs. Like 10 carry the gear and the other 10 do the digging/cutting etc

@@daboyz367 as a handcrew sawyer. Theres no way I would ever want to carry 2 line packs dolmar felling axe 2 tools saw kit and 2 gallons of water while the other sawyer runs the chainsaw.

ANF has two crews with 30 men, LTHS & DHS. I’m on LTHS. Much more work / life balance and able to accomplish a lot more. Comes with down sides too

Absolutely correct. Major issues. With recent legislation, pay is (thankfully) starting to go up. And check out the US Forest Service’s website- they have great recruitment info
