This week we are tracking down a CAPERCAILLIE in rut, or will he track us? This time of the year has a lot of opportunities for WILDLIFE and BIRD PHOTOGRAPHY. All photos shown were taken with the NIKON Z6 and the Nikon 200-500mm lens. I got some really amazing photos in this wildlife encounter (for my standards, finally!), also the unbelievable experience of dancing with a Capercaillie in this wildlife vlog.
Never before have I encountered a Capercaillie, so I was glad but also cautious. Before the encounter I talked with people that have some experience with these animals, the question comes also up if you should disturb them at all. Capercaillie males are really aggressive in this time of the year due to high testosterone levels and will nearly attack anything and anyone in the forest that they can find. If a wanderer or a dog comes along does not matter. They do this because they might not find another male to fight with, so they will try to cool themselves off on you as well. Consider if you are ready for an encounter like this and how the capercaillie population is standing where you are from. Take care!
Thanks for watching!
Always remember to take care of vulnerable environments, always act carefully and considered.

Now that’s a pretty cool bird Gunnar. It definitely has an attitude. I’ve never seen or heard of this bird before. Thanks for showing us. The beak on it looks downright dangerous. It’s a good thing that you were able to prepare for meeting it. Now, another use for your tripod.😎. I very much enjoyed this video.🙂🙂

Terry Roth It is a pretty insane bird indeed. That statue and behaviour seems a bit extraordinary since besides that it’s kinda like a big chicken (and it looks quite normal when the back feathers are laid down and the neck is not standing up). The beak IS dangerous 😅 The males can die from wounds caused by their fighting for the mates (lek). It’s a bit sad that they became ghosts of the forest. I heard about it and saw pictures in my grandparents home in Germany where it became really rare, but I never saw one in person. I’m glad though to tell you that he is not alone, I saw two hens hanging around in the trees. Us finally leaving he might even have a good chance mating since he “fought us off”. It is also great news that a friend has seen them fight there in the eighties, but not ever since because there were no birds anymore to look at. There are now ☺️ My tripod got some scratches, but if it could not stand that one, it would not be the right one for me. As ever, thanks for your comment, good to talk to you, Terry!

@@GunnarDresler Your encounter in this video raises conservation awareness, which is vital for their protection. These are scary days for Earth's future and our beautiful planet needs triage. Thank you for being a part of the solution. Paz y luz. 🌍🍃🔭✨🌙

Claire Sophia if you keep calm you can get some great captures, but I don’t think I would be able to get some alone. You really have to stay alert for the moment he starts running again.

I want to get more of that ritual this spring in another forest. It will need some planning and eventually a pop up hide, but if we are lucky it is gonna be even better! Glad you liked it, David :)

I could not imagine back then that it would be so great. If you have not photographed and seen something for month you start to doubt yourself so hard :D There was just no time nor weather, putting in those 2-3 days were just so fun. Cheers :)

I can understand, I did not think that I would meet one this year. Everything was and is moving so fast that I am scared not too get all on camera, but I guess next year would be a bit boring if there was nothing new (but seriously, there is always something new) :P Thank you, let's see what else is there for the next video :D

Tony Morrison he’s not afraid at all! I talked to people living there and walking with their dogs. He frightens the dogs to the bones 😅 in the first second you are actually a bit struck, but you just have to stay in control for the both of you. He once outsmarted us.

Really an excellent video Gunnar. I think you deserve a lot more than 570 subscribers right now. Please upload more content like this using Nikon Z6. Also please let me know what tripod and camera bag you are using. I am a Nikon Z6 user myself.

Thanks for the kind words, Debashish, even though I don't really think that someone/anyone deserves subscribers. You kind of have to earn them :) It is going good if you consider that until 2 month ago I was under 200 (and that until then for a year), so maybe it continues to go up. Still thanks for your words! :) I am using a Sirui tripod and a Lowepro Tactic 450 AW, maybe shoot me a message on Insta if you need more details. I think the Z6 is really great, never had any regrets since I got it. Cheers!

Hi Gunnar! First of all thanks for sharing your experiences and congrats for your videos. I'm a Nikon user, with lots of Nikon material, but Canon R6 is really a step ahead in its mirrorless cameras, specially considering the animal eye autofocus. I've just seen that you're using nikon lenses in the R6. What adapter do you use? Does it work ok (autofocus and other stuff)? Thanks again, form Portugal.
@GunnarDresler
@GunnarDresler 3 жыл бұрын
Hei Tiago :) This might be a misunderstanding somehow. The reason I am using Nikon lenses is that I use a Nikon Z6 for all my productions. There might be an adapter to use F mount lenses on the Canons out there, but there will not be an opportunity to use any Z lenses on a Canon camera in the future since the Z mount is bigger and the flange distance shorter. On the other hand you can put nearly everything on a Z mount. I know this answer not really your question, but I had the need to say that :D Thanks for the compliment! Cheers G

@@GunnarDresler Hi, thanks this looks like the best solution possible now, but you’ll lose AF and the aperture needs to be changed manually , as the camera looses the capacity to contact with the lens.
