Ive had to buy a new waterproof jacket after my last one letting me down so I've done a load of research and ended up buying the Jack Pyke Rannock waterproof jacket. Ive not had it long but upto now its been great. Does exactly what it says on the tin, Windproof, Waterproof and Breathable. Join me as we have a wander in the woods on a wet and weary day. What better weather to test a waterproof!!

I remember the old Snorkels. I used to wear one when biking to school. Problem was, when you turned your head to look around, all you saw was the inside of the hood.

Nice review Simon, great jacket and at an affordable price for most! As you said in the review I've got the Jack Pyke top and bottoms which I've had for over 10 years and they are still going. A good product that does what it says on the tin. All the best R :-) 👍

Cheers Richard, yeh I'm sick of paying through the nose for gear that doesn't perform. If I get 10 years out of this I'll be well chuffed. The main danger in this game is barbed wire and bramble thorns though !!😆

Nothing better than being outdoors. I remember as a lad back in the 70s, always out in the wood just south of preston, Cuerden Park, brilliant, we used to build bird boxes and go and hang them up all over the woods. Them were the days. We where there in our wellies middle of winter freezing are socks off, but having a great time. Wish I could get back sometime.

Good to see someone else with the Rannock, got myself the matching pants too, also got that DD Superlight Tarp, don't forget to check that flap on the back of the jacket, handy quick dry seat option, look forward to seeing your Macro lens coming out :-)

Very similar to mine i have the jack pyke hunter its that soft swedey type stuff realy quiet think its water proof to hasn't got the hood like yours but it has one built into the collar also has a bit at the back you can unzip so you can sit on. One thing id advise is get a bigger size than what you normaly where as mine feels a bit small but its still good cant complain about the price,good stuff. 👍

Looks a great Jacket and a smart cammo. You in the Black woods there 👍. I bet the dogs loved a run around there. Nice one Si, cant beat chilling under the tarp with a mug of soup 🙂👍

Yeh you got it Rick. Its a belting woods aint it. Willow got snagged in some bloody barbed wire though and gashed her chest, hate the stuff. Yeh chuffed with the jacket, catch up soon 👍🏼👊

Hi Simon, interesting re waterproof jacket, for the last 13 years I had used a Paramo Cascade the only reason I changed it had ripped on some barbed wire, Paramo would have repaired it but it has kept me dry for all those years so I splashed out on a new one and if it lasts another 13 years I will be 99 and still dry, it is perfect for bird watching as the fabric is ultra quiet. As always a good presentation Tony

Another great video Simon looks like a good jacket. Used to love my parka I remember walking home in a snow storm once fully zipped up kept me warm and dry. Love these informal video chats you do good to see the dogs enjoying themselves. Take care

I agree it's a great jacket , I wear it all year round , I love the fact that it's silent. Just one tip I would give is to push the flaps on the pocket inside the pocket as I think the velcro is brilliant but noisy if you need to open them in the hide ,great work 👍🏻

Looks very smart on and sounds like a good jacket. Might have to invest in one. Av got the Jack pyke hunters jacket three in one in English Oak and a can honestly say its the best jacket av ever owned had eight years now and still in great condition

Yeh, I'm really suited with it Great value and a great camo pattern. I was in the woods yesterday watching Roe deer and they were clueless to my presence with that on. Works a treat and keeps you dry!!👍🏼👀

Good video, I use an ex army camouflage Gortex jacket. It is excellent in wet weather and keeps me very dry. The only downside is there are no pockets, but it has an internal zip to allow access to clothing underneath...🎅👍👍

Eddiek. Me too. Much as I liked the quality of my Jack Pyke jacket, I was too warm in it. I now wear a British Army zip up camouflage shirt with two internal chest pockets and arm pockets, with a lightweight, British Army Gortex jacket over the top. The arm pockets are just right because I wear a Cotton Carrier G3 harness to carry my cameras. The new British Army kit is far better than the DPM stuff I was issued with.

Hi Simon, I love watching your vlogs and learning from them, I've recently acquired a local permission to a woodland and was wondering what size jacket it is that you review in this vlog as I am looking to get on for myself. I'm a 44" chest and was wondering if an XL would be good for me. Cheers, looking forward to your next vlog.

Thanks Lee, I'm a 40" chest and I have the XL. Theyre a small fitting so I'd probably go with the XXL to be on the safe side.

Did you make your own Kuksa and spoon Simon? For the floor I use a 7' x 4' piece of material that was the bottom of a tent. Well, for £55 I think I'll be getting one of those jackets. All the best from a fellow bushcrafter/photographer on the Isle of Wight :)

Yeh always a good shout having something down on the deck. Yeh I made them both, I'm partial to a bit of whittling when I'm sat out in the woods. Makes a nice change from having the camera out all the time👍🏼👊
