You get so much in your videos, this time including helpful info on the Ecoflow and reminders about the wind and sun at your back, shutter at 1/2000 (still too slow?), etc. I carry the R7 + 100-500, switching to the 800 if additional reach is needed - what a nice option to have 1260mm along! Would it be too much of a pain to include camera/lens info on your displayed photos, or maybe on just some that you think show off the merits of a particular combo? Anyway, thanks for taking us along for the ride again!

can I ask a question brent when you used the RF800 with a r7 did you ever feel the lens could not resolve the resolution of the camera. I am having a debate with some one who is producing images of an eagle but it does not look sharp. Is it possible the RF800 is not sharp enough to produce sharp results on a apsc camera 32mp?

Lots of good shots as far as I’m concerned, just got an EF 100-400 and it’s rained since the day I got it, I’m not a real fan of the 800, I guess that means I just have to get closer. Looking forward to next vid.❤

i love the scenario of having the 800 vs 100/500. the fate seems to always work against you. but every now and then you get a wall hanger with the 800 plus 1.4. you would not even had taken the shot with the 100/500. btw the 100/500 i adore and is normally my go to lens. thanks for the info on cropping with the 4k. i never have tried that before. i am never afraid to say that often i am the last to try something . old age has its issues, but i still love to learn.

Do you use the RF 800 and R7 more with electronic shutter or EFCS/mech? I use the RF 800 if possible ONLY in electronic and with as low SS as possible, works pretty ok with the good stabilizer, especially 4k60 crop and 1080p 120 video. But all my other lenses i use EFCS, barely any problems with shutter shock. But the RF 800 is so annoying on the R7... even at 1/1600 i have shutter shock in many shots! Other lenses are mostly fine down to about 1/400 and if im in the region of 1/400 im using anyways ES.

Hi Brent, fabulous video👍 Most of my shots are birds in flight, what’s your take on the benefits of the R7 & f/11 lenses having the longer reach v the rolling shutter. I’m currently shooting with an R6 + 100-500 & f/11 600
@BrentHall
@BrentHall Жыл бұрын
The rolling shutter is the worst I've ever experienced, and I'm not a fan, lol. I'd definitely prefer my R5 or R6 for BIF. That said, you can certainly still get great shots with it, you just won't have near the keeper rate, at least that's been my experience with it so far.

I dont know if i am late for getting an answer on this comment but i will try anyways! So i stumbled across your video because i am debating on buying the R7 or the R6 since i want to upgrade from my 7DMkII. The thing is i got a Tamron 150-600mm and i do not know if the 600mm are enough for wildlife and birds on the R6. Or in general if R6 (in used) is worth buying over a completely new R7. So if you or anyone reading this can tell me a little about their opinion i would be really gratefull!

There's a LOT to consider here. I've made videos on both of those cameras for wildlife, so you should check my wildlife playlist. Bottom line is there's a lot of pros and cons for both, and you'll need to decide which sacrifices you're willing to make for each one. Most importantly though, both of these are very good cameras and either will be a MASSIVE upgrade from your 7D2. The r7 will give you the extra reach that you're used to, but at a high cost of some serious rolling shutter and AF issues, whereas the R6 AF is much more stable and reliable, but you're taking a bigger hit in resolution (but it's also much better in low light). Anyways, I've talked a lot about all that stuff in my other videos so I don't want to type it all out, lol.

Fall foliage is about done here in the NYC area, so I'll be doing a lot more bird photography on the shores of Long Island and lakes in the Hudson Valley. I decided I don't really need the R7, but I'm intrigued by the rumored video-centric R7C. Would you be interested in a crop version of the R5C? You've got many of the same waterfowl wintering in your area as here in the Northeast. Except grebes; I've never seen one. We get the odd loon, though.

Solar power generators have been such a game changer for wildlife photographers! I can't live on the road without my Jackery 300. It also eliminates the need for a power inverter in my inTech Pursue off road camper. I even use the Jackery 100watt panel to charge the 100AH Lithium battery in the camper. I've mostly used the R7 with the 100-500mm--with the crop factor, I've found handholding it with the 800mm is super dicey in anything but bright sunlight, and I'm definitely not the best with keeping moving targets in frame at 1260mm! The sharpness of the L glass and the APS-C 800mm-equivalent is an outstanding combination, though. As for your review, I'd love to see your take on the R7's AF system. It's great, but I think not as great as the R5 when it comes to finding and keeping locked on a subject, eye detection or not. Curious what settings you've found work best.

so I finally did it I bought the 100-500 RF lens mainly on your videos. to do this I had to sell 100-400 EF II, RF 600, EF 70-200 II 2.8, Sigma 150-600. some have said bad mistake but after using this lens for 1 day I have found auto focus quicker and the sound of IS and auto focus for video work near to silent. This is the biggest deal off all. I have a EF stm 24-105 and find that lens a blessing for video work but when I use the EF 16-35 f4 IS I can here the sound on the road microphone. Great video! I’m still not sure where I stand with my R7… it’s so light and the extra reach is wonderful, but I’m still not entirely sold on it. I think, like you said, it’s a matter of understanding it’s limits and using it within them. With the 100-500 it preforms pretty well. And with the RF 100-400, it’s so insanely light and easy to carry around. I need to spend more time with it on the 600 and 800 f11’s. But at the end of the day, Unless I force myself to use it, the R5 is still my absolute go to. I know the R5 should logically be the more capable camera, but for some reason I was just so hopeful the R7 would be more of a contender than I think it is. For the price and the features, the R7 is an incredible option. But when going toe to toe with the R5, it’s just missing some of the magic.

The big issue with the R7/R10 is that historical canon has not supported their ef-s lines. Now that they have closed off access to the R mount, people will be stuck with the few lenses that canon makes, or use older slower lenses.
@BrentHall
@BrentHall Жыл бұрын
I think that's probably more true in the broader scope of general photography with the R10/R7, but not as much with wildlife specifically, as the RF/EF lenses are better quality and equate to longer effective focal lengths, which most people want anyway, and you really can't argue about lens price when Canon now has the RF 100-400, which is hands down the best value wildlife lens in the Canon system, period. That thing is like $650 new, and on sale for like $500 right now!!! Not to mention it performs incredibly well and is stupid small and light.

@@BrentHall that lens could not resolve the pixel density from an R5. The R7/R10 have way more. Nore is it a RF-S, which was my point. While it is a nice lens for the price,there are better sigma and Tamron lenses that cover a larger focal length, are sharper, while not being much more expensive. Having few lenses and less competition is always a bad thing.
