The area between Germany and Poland, Lusatia, has a dark side. It is notorious for vast coal mining. Since the former GDR the biggest machines of the world dig enormous holes in the landscape. When they leave a vast moonscape remains. Other regions are used as artillery ranges for decades. But all armors couldn’t stop wildlife coming back: On Lusatia’s artillery ranges, the first wolf packs established after centuries of being extinct in Germany. Moose calves are born in the forests, hopooes and colourful bee-eaters breed on recultiveted land. Lusatia acutally shelters Germany’s most fascinating wilderness - from the darkness to a new wildlife paradise.
