My Dad played this all the time for me. Every night before I went ro sleep, every craft show, anytime he would pick up his canjo or any of his other creations, he always played this for me. I called it wildwood, you play it just like he did. Thank you. It's almost like hearing him play again. :) he passed away July 7th 2005....I was his wildwood flower.

I still play this on just the melody strings. My hands are not nimble enough to play it on multiple strings. Such a pleasant instrument to play.

That is a beautiful instrument! I am new to playing the dulcimer and this is one of my favorite songs that I want to learn to play. May I ask what key you are tuned to in the video? Is it tuned in ionic mode? Thank you for the video.

Bryan Collins Thanks Bryan. It is tuned Mixolydian (D-A-D).

Very nice! I noticed that there is a fret right next to the nut. I keep seeing that of instruments but I never understood the function, seeing as it doesn't play a note.
@appflutes7 жыл бұрын
Hello Tom. It's the 0 fret and serves as the nut. The slotted nut aligns the strings, the 0 fret takes care of string height and length without the inconsistencies of a wider nut. It takes the guess-work out of nut design. And yes, the 0 fret does play a note. It plays the open note for each string.

I tend to improvisw a bit when I play. I'm a dulcimer builder, not a professional musician. My favorite tab for Wildwood Flower is Steve Smith's arrangement. drive.google.com/file/d/1BcQ3RFdiGHQVr_kN5kK80lJWC1JEgibN/view?usp=sharing
