The Golden State Warriors are scheduled to take on the Portland Trail Blazers Wednesday night. Ahead of the matchup between the two Western Conference foes, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr was quoted saying 'I think Steph in a lot of ways is like Michael Jordan.' Kerr a former teammate of Jordan won a championship with the Bulls in 1997 as a player and won three as Warriors head coach. Marcellus Wiley and Emmanuel Acho debate if it is 'crazy' to compare Michael Jordan to Stephen Curry.

All I know is Jordan would average 30-40 points a night if he wanted to in this "no touch" NBA league. Curry would get knocked out the game trying a layup in the 80's

Yup just like it's ludicrous to say 90s were the toughest most physical era. Although one and two hand checks were much more physical before the rule changed in 1976. Plus the prohop should be banned and the defensive 3 second because it's easier to score. Plus although before 76 the hand checks were more physical. The 90s hand check should be brought back. since the checks before 76 would everyone today. That's why I have MJ lower than the majority thinks he should be. Tougher more physical hand checks meant the older players couldn't do moves like MJ because they'd be hurt. Yet they were capable of doing it.

Kareem got the dunk outlawed in amateur basketball and we all learned the skyhook. Jordan showed up when they changed the rule back. Jordan didn’t change the game. But we started practicing fadeaway jumpers instead of skyhooks. However we already were doing everything else. Steph curry changed the game on the court. Jordan didn’t. That simple. I don’t compare Jordan to curry. The nba hyped Jordan more than anyone. I copied one Jordan move. The rest were Dominique dr j and Isaiah Thomas. I didn’t really appreciate that hype. He was just another guy. If you played the game Jordan was just another guy to you. He was just good. All due offense. Jordan is not in curry’s league.

I like Curry but honestly he isn't top 10 yet . Top 20 maybe but 10? You know how many greats are in the top 10? So in your opinion is he better than Hakeem,Magic,Bird, Duncan, Kobe, Shaq,Kareem, Wilt, LBJ, Jordan. So who would you take out of those 10 ? And I can add more names still. It’s funny how Wiley’s own arguments can be used against him, He’s saying Curry can ‘t gets special consideration because he wasn’t the first to do anything that he’s doing well. But Jordan wasn’t the first to Dunk, He wasn’t the first to shoot a fade-away jump shot, He wasn’t the first to do any of the things he did. He wasn’t even the first to win 6 Championships. So, Wiley’s arguments are non-arguments… they make no sense. Curry and Jordan are comparable because of how well they did what they chose to do. Everything Jordan did, others were doing it before him… remember Dr. J? What Curry did was focus on the 3-point shot and took it a lot more than others before him. And to make them at a 40% clip his entire career, when most other 3-point shooters were making then less than he was, changed the way Teams organized their defenses. Jordan impacted the game because coaches changed their defenses to focus on the four other players on the court, since they succumbed to the fact that they couldn’t keep him from scoring. Curry impacted the game because coaches had to changed their defenses to account for the distance he was making 3-pointers from, which open the floor like no other time in the history of the game.

Magic said MJ took the game above the rim and this was due to his athleticism. Many players followed. Curry took the game well beyond the 3 pt line as a matter of course. He was able to do it off the catch like others but off the dribble unlike others. Curry dismissed the slow-footed Goliaths from the League something Jordan was not able to do. Now they must be able to step out and guard the perimeter and be capable of making treys. The debate is not who is top 5, top ten or who was more athletic who won more chips; the discussion is about can Curry be compared to MJ. Answer? Yes bc he changed the way the game is played. For good measure, Steph has galvanized the fan base the way MJ did.

Wiley's argument is missing one important point: Steph Curry did it on route to WINNING...He didn't just go out there and "shoot more 3s than the last guy" the genius part of his game is that he spammed a part of the game better than anyone else - arguably preventing Lebron winning 8 titles and overtaking Jordan's legacy. They broke the single season winning record using a gamebreaker, that no one before Steph had done.

Arvydas Sabonis was Nikola Jokić before he got old and injuries shortened his career. Drazen Petrovic was on his way to being a star in the league, but died in a car accident. Detlef Schrempf was a good player, and would have had an even better career if his talents were utilized better. Toni Kukoc was pretty good, too. Rik Smits. Anyone remember him? Rony Seikaly, Sarunas Marciulonas, Manute Bol, Kiki Vandewege, Luc Longley. Those are just some foreign born players off the top of my head. MJ days most off the players on the court just help make a 5 man roster. Most could not even think about playing in this NBA. It does not matter any ways because if the NBA abd Refs did not completely rig that finals there would off never been a 6th or 7th game GSW in 5 and that is the way it is and everyone knows it at least anyone who knows BB and just dont want to tell the truth. If that was dra throwing Bron to the ground and walking over Bron and they suspended Bron all the analists would still be asking for all involved in that dra suspensions to be fired and it would still be all over as the biggest ripoff in NBA history. Statistically even, due to Steph the spacing is crazy, the warriors play a very unique type of basketball that allows everyone to shine yet they're unselfish, and Steph's impact on the game is more than Mike's. Like he said, Mike did what everyone else did but just extremely better at it. He didn't cause players to move outward from the paint just to guard a 3 while someone is transitioning to the basket. They'd rather cover the 'possible' 3 than the almost inevitable 2 pts which no one in the 90s would almost even think twice about.

We can say that they are comparable with the effect they had on the game in the NBA. Jordan impacted the game internationally and he performed great both in the regular and post season. Curry changed the game with the 3 point shot. The game changed wherein a lot of teams nowadays let them 3s fly. That would be the comparison between these 2 in my opinion. But with the way they impacted the games they played, Jordan has the edge. He is perfect in the finals. Curry had times in the post season that he was absent and did not play to the level that we know he can play. I love both of these players. Why do we always need to include Lebron and Jordan (or Russ and Kobe, for that matter)? Also, I don't hear about Steph being a lockdown defender, dunker, stealer, shot-blocker, rebounder, assister, triple-doubler, or any other attribute! Curry has a guaranteed HOF career (with many more years left to play), but the comparisons are misleading and inaccurate. And he doesn't NEED the help. He's the best shooter EVER, AND I'm surprised he doesn't have a statue yet!!!!!!!!!!! Also, I don't remember anyone doing this for Ray Allen when he snatched this record. Sheesh. **It's like The Media is begging Curry's core fans to love them (to boost views) by glorifying "the most *likable*" active basketball planet on earth; Stephen Curry.** I don't understand how we're comparing Curry to the following: - Jordan's "His Airness" defensive stopping power and unstoppable scoring ability. - Kobe's "Mamba Mentality" killer (win or die trying) instinct. - Lebron's "King James" (most-complete) all-around most extraordinary basketball legacy ever seen. In summary, NO ONE did what Curry (just) did. That's why he has the "Most-Three-Pointers ever made" record. Hard stop. Lastly, the Golden State front office and coaching staff deserve more recognition--their system is ELITE TEAM BASKETBALL! Steph isn't doing this on ANY team with ANY coach during ANY era. It's a clinic in the GSW dog-house, and they keep proving it year after year (even when they're not winning 70 in a row).

I would venture that most of the great NBA players have someone who inspired them. If the inventor of basketball were to watch today's game, he would probably have no clue of what's going on. In the 50's and 60's BB was kinda boring. Two-handed set-shots were common. Getting a lead and freezing the game were also common. In my opinion, it was after the merger of the NBA/ABA that BB became fun and exciting. It is my opinion that anyone who can bring innovation and renewed excitement to the game deserves the flowers There are those who play the game above the rim and those who don't. MJ and Steph are legends in their own right.

6 months later it seems more comparable now. A year from now if they win again I think it really is even. Different players altogether but no one can Deny that curry is an all time great.

You can't compare their athlicism but you can compare them on how much effect they have on the court and off the court Curry have more on the court, Jordan need the ball, Curry can do that too but he choose to the other way because of his unlimited range and ability to score and dribbling and off ball movement that no other players have in NBA history...Curry impact on the court cannot be match by anyone else, just like MJ greatness cannot be match by anyone else....Curry is always underrated because of his size and athlicism but nobody knows that doesn't matter for him because he can do everything...

Marcellus nailed it when he mentioned tier levels. Jordan is on a higher tier. Consideration for the physicality of the era should also be taken into to. The biggest question is could Steph play in an era when Gary Payton or Dumars could keep a hand on him. How do we accurately define Steph's body of work when he is targeted defensively for his, let's say, under-average defense and would his two demension game classify him more accurately as the greatest "shooter" ever. Could Ray Allen and Reggie Miller got accustomed to green light three pointers if they were in this era? I will say this, Jordan, Lebron, Shaq, and Curry could be listed as the top most impactful players of all-time because their skills changed the dynamics of the game

@@ronniekregar3482 I disagree. Ray Allen and Reggie, as great as they are, never got the defensive attention that Steph gets today. It’s not close or comparable in any way. 1v1 defense, or shooting an open jumpshot (and making it) doesn’t equate to 4 people guarding the same dude because they are ALL scared for him to shoot it. I’ll take Steph all day everyday. This lunacy about others being more clutch is pure narrative nonsense. NBA players show you who they fear and who will hit the shot, and the consensus is that it’s Steph. We have NEVER in the history of the game seen anyone guarded to the extent that Curry is. Multiple people guarded Shaq and Wilt in the paint. Multiple people guarded Jordan in the paint and his midrange. We have never seen someone get guarded by multiple people while everyone on the team has to account for where they are on the court as soon as they cross half court onward where NO ONE wants him to shoot ANY shot. Whether it’s a layup, floater, midrange, 3 pointer, ANYTHING, no one wants Steph to shoot ANY shot (besides a dunk lol). It’s sad that we’re still having these debates where the evidence is overflowing. Steph is so good that multiple people have to guard him at ONCE and at all times. That was never Ray or Reggie.

@@Lee65100 dude, Ray Allen hit the greatest shot in NBA history, that holds a ton of weight. Did you watch Reggie play? He did all the running Steph did and was amazing at using picks just like Steph. Dude scored 8 points in 9 seconds. Trust me, they were afraid of Reggie. Steph is on another level, I get it. But Steph Curry also couldn't hit the broad side of a barn when it mattered most in the NBA Finals. I'd be wayyyyyy more scared if Ray Allen or Reggie Miller had the ball with one shot to win the game than Steph Curry.
