I will go ahead and give my standing ovation for OMAR’s Oscar worthy performance. His awareness of the ways class, privilege, and race intersect with identity feels incredibly forward-looking. He understood his supporting role drawing the audience to his realistic human emotions displayed episode through episode. His portrayal of Simon was exceptionally naturalistic and gripping, that it made this Swedish import transcend the cliché it could have been and becomes something more unusual: a teen drama that actually feels like it could be telling a true story. His acting in the series was phenomenal! Well done

Yes!!! Skam is so good. I like them both….. equally. but I’m obsessed with young royals rn

I loved that the actors looked like normal teenagers. So many shows have these perfect-skinned, perfectly coiffed, perfectly fit actors that you can’t relate. I think that’s why YR is resonating with so many people. The characters are normal, even within their more elite economic status. Wilhelm has anxiety, and perhaps a bit of a depressive disorder too. August very clearly has body dysmorphia and a perfection complex. Felice is trying to be the daughter her mother wants rather than being the person she actually is. My niece is mixed like Felice. I suspect Felice’s hair would look better in its natural curl than it does with Felice’s attempts at straightening it. Sarah wants to be “normal”. Madison is that friend who just doesn’t care what people think. We all need one of those. Simon is a problem solver, even though it does cause him problems as he solves other people’s problems. Alexander allows himself to be taken advantage of in so many ways because he wants the connections of old money, though he is clearly new money. We all knew/know people like this in school. Maybe we were one of those people. Add in the enchanting love story between Wilhelm and Simon and we were all hooked. I rarely watch a movie/series in anything other than its native language. It just drives me nuts to listen to dubbing, but the YR story is sooooo good I watched with the English audio. It definitely helped that it was the actual actors’ voices, but I could still tell the difference at times. Yet, it didn’t drive me insane. I didn’t feel like anything was lost by listening to it dubbed in English, which is my feeling with most dubs of any language. Wilhelm and Simon’s story is just too good. We definitely need a season 2 because I want to know what that look from Wilhelm on the word “revolution” is going to mean.

I personally watched the show in Swedish with English subtitles in an attempt to keep it as close to the original as possible, but of course the fact the actors dubbed it themselves is wow.

@@ildikosz-l5950 well Love Victor and other shows with gay characters and couples are doing okay. I don’t think that’s the reason. I do think that the demographic doesn’t do well with foreign shows and films because they’re more subtle than what’s on the American screen. And I’m from the US. I’m not proud of Americans’ lack of good taste.

The show has been TOP 10 here in Norway ever since July 1., and I think one of the reasons being that a broader audience is watching it here. I don’t know if I’m right, but the press here has been very positive to it. We had SKAM, also a show that « everybody » watched at the time. We have two kids with adhd and one with Asperger, so for my husband the representation of that was important. I mean, we’ve all been young once 💛

So nice to hear that I am not the only one! I'm in my 40's and I am obsessed! I'm also hoping this is what teenage shows will be like when my daughter gets older and not like most shows, whith flawless 25 years olds and expensive designer clothes.
