"fire season", aka government arson season. How about a freedom of information request about all the arson?

I envision a few more large dumps of snow before spring and then some good soaks coming in the form of rain. I don't have a crystal ball but I always get what I want. Also, the fire season is mostly determined by the Planning and Engineering department at Darpa.

I have been in this area for most of fifty years and Niño or no Niño, we have NEVER seen it this dry. It is nice to not have to deal with the hassle of snow but most of us dare not enjoy it. I hear you about resisting the drive into cities. The big cities’ problems are slowly coming to the smaller rural areas too. Nothing compared to the lower East side, but still, increasing crime. Anyway, I am planting leeks.

Three weeks of hot, dry weather has always signaled the start of fire season in B.C. I worked in the forest industry for 10 years. But the problem now are the authorities who will force you off your land, make it illegal for you to protect it during a fire (or maybe from another crisis, real or imagined), and arrest you. I can see why you are anarcho!

Interesting. Glad to hear you talking about the sprinkler system you are working towards. That increased humidity from sprinklers will do wonders to a crowning fire coming at you - it can be the difference between saving your home and not. Although I can't disagree with your statement about cutover's creating flooding, the current fire situation is also in part responsible as there is no surface litter to hold in place. I can't disagree entirely with your assessment of the forest industry, but I would also say that it is not as bad as you portrayed. It is a tough job to manage a forest harvest with the environment and ecological concerns at play while ensuring that the public gets a reasonable priced product. Selective logging does not necessarily negate that and in fact has been shown to cause problems to the residual trees. Not saying I don't believe in it, just saying that in both instances it depends on who is doing the harvesting. As fire fighting's primary goal is to protect values at risk, cut over's do aid in this task as well. Anyway, I won't say more as this could get long and a comment is not the place for this type of discussion...lol. But suffice it to say that the operators harvesting the timber are not all fine upstanding citizens either and as such it can make things difficult. Thank you for sharing your systems.

Maybe this is how our weather is to be. Shorter days and lower sun angle brings colder weather and snow. After December 20th the days get longer and the angle increases. The only reason I could ever find for the colder weather being in January and February was “Seasonal Lag”. Maybe you will get more rains through the spring to make up for the early snow loss.

This is a large election year. Some bad fires might fit a democratic narrative real nice. We are on the edge of a similar climate, except our winter is rain. No rain in the summer to speak of, and between 10 to 12 inches total. I put in a pond also- about 2/3 acre, filled it with a garden hose from our well. I have the same thoughts about water. I went with a liner and it was a lot of work- i figured it would have taken at least 5 years or more to get a natural seal- not to mention gophers. I put in catfish, goldfish, crawdads, and daphnia magna. I supplement with a purina feed and use an aerator. Eventually the liner will be covered over and never seen again. There is a developing story in the US regarding a map- the WUI. I have a call into my county commish. Asking about fire insurance price and availability.

Seasons change as do sometimes quite a period... Have seen this many times in majority of a century... Ice age to desertification. Had serious drought last year, have seen much worse... Winter was mild with the plastic snow that won't melt fast enough to suit. Snow or no snow moisture is welcome... Water has been changed Theory of a Conspiracy. Have seen snow to the eves to green grass and t-shirt Christmas Day too drought prolonged till pasture turn desert wasteland void of a single weed, muck fields too the wind... Think you are going to see seasons turned on the head... would suggest greenhouse of some sort gardening. ASAP: Post Script; If you are concerned of fire, be aware of spotlights from the sky. @andreyanderson8798

@@offgridcurtisstone Curtis, I'm only suggesting removing as many conifer trees as you can especially around your house/structures. They are the ones that burn. Deciduous trees do not burn and actually stop the spread of a wild fire. I'm sure you can still find information about it (there was some research from a university on youtube years ago). I removed all conifer trees from my property here in the Kootenays and replaced them with fruit and nut trees, mulberry, linden trees etc. Obviously I am not a Canadian and do not have to worship conifers. I hope I'm not offending you.
