Can ChatGPT do the job of an IT professional? It's impressive technology and people are worried it will take our jobs, but haven't we heard this all before?

I'm going to guess a few things it might have gotten wrong without looking up the cmdlets or trying it: 1. The LastLogonTimeStamp may be using that weird uint64 time stamp type which isn't inter-compatible with the DateTime format of $time. 2. The foreach syntax might be wrong. I have a feeling that needs to be foreach-object 3. $_.DistinguishedName may not be valid input for the -Identity parameter. I always have struggles with the -Identity parameter but I think just $_ would work (give it the whole object). Edit: Well that's humbling, thanks for the info!

Excellent test. Most of the “errors” were fixed with additional refinements to the prompt. Welcome to the new field of “prompt engineering”. I have already deployed ChatGPT php code to customise website search behaviour and am getting it to write a full plugin for Wordpress. The secret was to define the flow and sequence of functions myself and get it to write one function at a time. So it radically speeds development but you need sufficient expertise to guide it

I've just got it to write some C code that I found difficult to write when at college years ago. It took seconds.

I'm glad I'm not trying to teach/assess programming to students. An arms race has started between AI code generators and AI code detection. Must be a nightmare trying to mark assignments. Then again, the code generators exist so perhaps education should accept them as a valid tool and teach people to get the most from it instead of fighting it.

ChatGPT Will make low level technicians cheaper, and create higher expectations for more expensive engineers. Until AI becomes more proactive vs reactive (~5ish years) jobs wont get replaced but will evolve.

Of any career IT pros are the safest, theres too much hardware setups with switches, aps etc. AI can never do that. Its programmers that should be worried most of those guys will be replaced.
