The Stanley Cup has just been handed out, but now the attention in Edmonton turns to their star players. Will Leon Draisaitl sign long-term with the Oilers? Mistakes esp game 3. Starting with Skinner behind the net misplay in game 3 n that terrible 6 mins . Freebies in that game. . Can't play catch up down to any playoff team 3-0. hopefully lessons can be learnt.

They will try to lock him up long term because hockey isn’t very creative. Selling him off for a boatload is always the smarter but never taken route. And I think he’s a fabulous player.

McDavid lost his edge a couple of times in the game. I suspect he was tired, but I also suspect the ice quality continued to suck.

The ice sucks in sunrise. Member game 5 like 4 skaters fell in the same corner with no contact...just slipped. They need a new rink soooo bad. The ice is sticky too a few passes you can see hit a patch and slow right down.

Signing 30 yr old guys to long term deals is very risky because even the greats ones drop off by their mid 30s but what are the Oilers to do unless they have Draisaitl's replacement down on the farm ready to go. Plus McDavid now has a taste of the Stanley Cup finals and will want to get back next year and McDavid is 27 so in a blink he will be 30 too.

@@Alex90210 I wouldn't bank on that. If Oil don't win a cup next year (which is highly unlikely), he aint gonna want to stick around in Edmonton before its too late - I dont blame him either. He is way too talented not to have a cup.

Pleased for the growth of hockey in non-traditional markets. The last five Cups were won in Florida, Vegas, and Colorado. This grows the game bringing new fans to hockey.

They don't have the assets to move Nurse. It's gunna take 7 or 8 assets to move a 9.25 mill contract, which oilers don't have.

He’ll sign for 2 years, because that’s how long McDavid is signed for. If the Oilers don’t win a cup in the next 2 years, McDavid will pull a Dominik Hasek and and find his Detroit Red Wings, and Drai will probably leave too.

Well, I am Canadian (definitely not a Oilers fan) and I am not celebrating the Stanley Cup win by Florida. They are a nothing franchise who will be back to 6 or 7 thousand fans per game within a couple years. Very few people in Florida give a single f**k about hockey. That's not something to celebrate.

Yzerman won his 1st cup at 31 and he has 3. Mcdavid is only 27 chill. Elite NHL players usually peak late 20s early 30s.
