Join Tim as he is joined by another Tim!
In the first of a three part series, Tim and Lord Barrington travel down south to remove an RF engine with a broken crank, ready to be moved back up north ready for a rebuild.
Don't forget to like and subscribe so that you don't miss out on any of our future videos!
There will be an update on the RT coming soon, as well as part 2 of this RF series where Tim, Alan and Lord Barrington strip the engine and rebuild it.
In the meantime, thanks for watching!

Great Video .. and well done to Tim & Lord Barrington in getting that AEC engine safely out of RF146. Look forward to see your further videos in its strip down & restoration. RF146 spent some of her latter LCBS years at Amersham Garage [MA] between March 74 and January 1977 before spending her last few months in service at Windsor [WR] then was withdrawn in March 77.. sold on to Ward Jones at Binders Yard nr High Wycombe she spent a few years as a school bus for Cressex Secondary School & then Lansdowne Middle School both in Wycombe .. eventually bought for preservation in 1987 .. changed hands several times before re-appearing on the Rally/Running Day scene in 2011.. so would love to see her back on the road & maybe visit Amersham & Wycombe Area Again!

I've been following the Bus Grease Monkey channel but it is great to see people working on the sort of buses I went on as a kid. A local coach firm had the contract for taking kids to my high school (1971 to 76) but after a while they bought old double deckers to use for those runs rather than mess up their fleet of luxury coaches.

So, here is a London bus restoration channel featuring young Tim and Tim our Lord of the Barrington, and already there is talk of getting a boat! Noooo. Being a seasoned railwayman of 38 years, it's great to see these engines mounted horizontally in the same way they were mounted on BR DMU's
@ANDREWLEONARDSMITH
@ANDREWLEONARDSMITH 4 ай бұрын
Were these engines originally designed for railway use then modified for road use?
@ANDREWLEONARDSMITH
@ANDREWLEONARDSMITH 4 ай бұрын
In the railway version i assume there was no gearbox & in its place was a dynamo which produced power for the electric traction motors mounted in the wheelframes as due to the weight of a train it is not possible to use mechanical traction the only exception being small shunting engines which did not venture on the main line.
@UppyJC
@UppyJC 3 ай бұрын
@@ANDREWLEONARDSMITH They were used with mechanical transmissions on the first generation mechanical BR DMUs. 2 engines, each driving through a 4 speed epicyclic gearbox to a reversing final drive on one axle on each bogie. They were mostly replaced with Leyland engines as time went on, but there are surviving AEC-powered vehicles in preservation. An AEC engine was also used in different configuration (also through mechanical transmission) on the GWR railcars from the 1930s/1940s.

That engine looks modern when out in plain sight. Amazing what was being made well before I was born in 73. These engines would have been roaring away at the time I emerged in Sydney which had over 300 Regal IVs all withdrawn Dec 1979.

As a 21 year old bus mechanic (in 1976) for London Transport, I was sent to Chiswick overhaul works to train as a bus driver. After passing the test, I got the chance to drive various new buses that were awaiting delivery to garages. I thought that the old RF, was a great bus to drive. Low and behold I spotted one of these in Barking garage to celebrate the 100 years of my old garage. 1924-2024. I'm retired now, but it's still good to see old buses running. I started as a 16 year old in 1971 for £4.00 pounds a week. Thanks lads, and thank you for your interesting films. Kind regards Jonnie.👍

i am certainly glad that the team is back, but more of a technical thing here on the presentation. this channel could use more presenter cut to explain what is happening, talking about it whilst working seems to be bit distracting to you guys (hence the bus peeing itself) as well as it is bit less quality audio. Proper even in voice over narration would help, tho if we were to compare to how it was in R4H channel (which had a dedicated person in team to narrate). Having dedicated presenter (maybe pick a member per episode? to show comaradry and give everyone some chance to shine) woudl certainly anchor things bit more, especiay for someone who has zero tech knowlidge like myself. explainer where needs be one etc. could be dealt with in cut away. regardless thats just mee nitpicking i enjoy things that work badly or not at all being made to work well and these videos fill the want well. hope to see more .)

Thank you for your feedback, glad you’re enjoying the videos! We do hope to invest in sound and video equipment over time and improving the videos once the channel starts to grow and hopefully give us something to invest back into improving the videos. Unfortunately as you can imagine, restoring these buses in our spare time is an expensive and time consuming process. As the next few videos come, we will be able to improve on the format and find out what works, what doesn’t, what people like, and what people don’t like. We tried to go for a middle ground to start with, not going into too much detail to bore people, but still trying to go into enough detail of what we’re doing along the way. It’s great to hear feedback as it will help is improve and adapt in our future videos. All the best, LBR
