I’d love deep dive videos on the wiring changes and the coding parts(vcds,odis everything) too. You don’t find such content for VAG on KZfaq, it’s usually consolidated to a few forums. And you actually having worked on these cars is a nice bonus for tips, anecdotes and stuff. It’s an interesting watch, especially as I recently went through hell finding the right crimp terminals and terminal blocks for a retrofit 😂

Powertrain and drivetrain swaps on modern vehicles is a serious undertaking. Look no further than the absolute nightmare MCM went through trying to GTI swap their VW Up. I'll be seriously impressed if you get a fully working Golf-R with the RS3 powertrain. Needless to say, it's great to see a rare VW color car not hit the scrap heap and lead a new life as a stealth Audi RS3. Plus, everyone except your average U.S. car buyer knows hatchbacks > sedans.
@DeafeningSounds
@DeafeningSounds 3 ай бұрын
Most of their issues where the breaker they got the bits from in the first place didn’t give them everything that needed Secondly they are used to going with aftermarket management so getting around the OEM security stuff was tuff work Thirdly the GTI was never sold in AUS so parts had to be outsourced and the model years didn’t match up the same with the euro spec stuff so what they read up online about it didn’t really work out.
@dil6969
@dil6969 3 ай бұрын
I'm definitely curious how Charles will fare with this swap on the electrical/coding side of things when everything's back together. It seems like it would be easier as he also seems to still have full access to the VAG scan tool and has two USDM cars he's swapping components between.@@DeafeningSounds

@@dil6969 yeh that’s the biggest bonus they swapping bits from similar era and both USDM based cars so on the coding side it will be quite easy as BCM will be the golf’s and coding already for everything internally. Just ABS pump that will need to be coded to ecu which is straight forward. As the age old saying goes “don’t run before you can walk” At least it’s done now and they have a factory car that wasn’t available.

@@HumbleMechanic I was having hard time with coming from an automatic transmission to manual transmission swap, them ecm and the pcm were not happy either. So I was having a Christmas tree light show going on in my dash. Finally got everything sorted out. Coming from working on VW and Audi to working on American brand vehicles was a different experience. But I still love working on VW and Audi. Such a sick swap! Really cool you've documented it all and provided the wiring harness information! I definitely feel that anxiety on first start. Felt very similar when I went to start my MKIV manual swap for the first time. Wiring was definitely the most daunting part of that swap albeit way simpler than what you're doing on this project!
