@@avonlies9482 His lips touched hers softly at first, not because he was trying to be gentle, although if he'd had the presence of mind to think about such things, it probably would have occurred to him that this was her first kiss, and it ought to be reverent and beautiful and all the things a girl dreams about as she's lying in bed at night. But in all truth, none of that was on Colin's mind. In fact, he was thinking of quite little. His kiss was soft and gentle because he was still so surprised that he was kissing her. He'd known her for years, had never even thought about touching his lips to hers. And now he couldn't have let her go if the fires of hell were licking his toes. He could barely believe what he was doing-or that he wanted to do it so damned much. It wasn't the sort of a kiss one initiates because one is overcome with passion or emotion or anger or desire. It was a slower thing, a learning experience-for Colin just as much as for Penelope. And he was learning that everything he thought he'd known about kissing was rubbish. Lol! There you go! He wasn't thinking of much at all. He was lost 😂😂😂

Did you guys notice that Penelope basically outed herself to colin? She said it would have been suspicious if lady whistledown hadnt reported on what happened. Thats a really weird thing for a person to say unless they were whistledown. Im surprised none of them caught it

I noticed that too and agree it was weird but not necessarily a giveaway. Like let's say two big name actors broke up and TMZ was talking all about it. "It's so rude of TMZ to talk about that celebrity couple's breakup." "Everyone was talking about it, it would have been suss if TMZ of all outlets *wasnt* talking about it." Because it would have been honestly. It was certainly notable and I'd be thinking "okay weird defense Pen" but the logic that rags aren't morally responsible for reporting rumors about invasive, personal details of celebs because they're only discussing what everyone else is already speculating about is used all the time. I don't agree with it but it's a common justification.

I think it was just Pen's negative self-talk in written form, not a manipulation. I mean, come on, what woman hasn't felt that way at some point (or many points) in their life? That they're not pretty enough or cool enough or smart enough. That they're just worse than all the other women and so they shouldn't expect positive attention or good things. Pen was just being honest about how she views herself.

Yeah, that was a wild assumption. It was basically a kiss to give up on him. Almost a 'i'll ask this because he's someone i trust and love but then that's it, i give up on him". But the boy felt.

From the interview, the actress, Nicola confirmed that for Penelope, that kiss was for her to move on and accept the fact that she is ruined and will have even less chance to get married but for Colin the kiss had awakened his feelings for her that has always been there just never named.

What Penelope wrote wasn't an attempt to garner pity. She knew it was what people would want to hear and how everyone already felt about her. She's also dealing with some internalized hatred

What is truly sad is that Penelope actually believes that she is undesirable. Yes--she had to write about herself in order to avoid suspicion, but it is how she truly sees herself. Right before she asks him to kiss her there is a Whistledown line about how people act dangerously when they have lost hope. It wasn't a manipulation--she actually had lost all hope and it was like she had nothing left to lose.

I actually love the journal part where he writes about women, because the very end of what she reads basically says that even in that moment of "intimacy" there's no true closeness in those encounters. But then when he kisses Penelope at the end - THAT'S real intimacy and he suddenly realizes the difference.

Aside from small changes in timing and place they did the kiss scene almost exactly like the book, and I loved that so much. For Penelope it was her trying to let him go, but for him it is the spark that ignites it all.

i think a lot of people believe tht Pen is still pining over colin. .i think she asking for tht kiss, she knows she'll probably look pathetic but tht was her actually completely giving up on him. this is a girl who has hit her lowest point, believing she'll live her life taking care of her mother and dying alone. im glad she asked for the kiss coz colin's attraction to pen switch needed to turned on otherwise hed only realize too late. he'd never initiate it first coz he'd think he was being disrepectful to Pen who's his sisters bestie too. also Luke Newton saying hed still fall for her in her yellow dress was so sweet.

9:48 > I didn’t like how in the series they made it as Colin writing about women (yes the last line was about how he didn’t feel a connection with them), but in the books was much better (since this scene is kind of from the book but modified). In the books he writes about Greece and it’s landscape with clever references to everyday stuff, like for example the water and its temperature, which later on Penelope says a bunch of compliments and in another scene she actually encourages him to write more and that he could always write as an actual publishing author (which spoilers, in the end of the book happens thanks to Penelope’s support). I feel like the series took off a lot of meaning about that scene to keep the “flirty Colin” facade…😞

It isn’t manipulation for Pen. She honestly believes in this moment that her life is over as she believes it to be. She doesn’t think a kiss from Colin will lead to anything, and it’s sort of a goodbye for her to him and too society. This was just the final straw for Colin when it comes to realizing as to why he always seeks her out and cares for her. That he loves her and probably has always loved her. Plus that scene is straight out of the books and Pen really doesn’t want anything except to experience a kiss with the only person she’s ever loved. This was also a big step for her as a character because she’s never told him what SHE wants straight out, and this kinda goes back to their conversation in season 2 where she tells him that she wants to be both witty and brave.

Pen was definitely just feeling those things about herself and having an existential crisis. In the books he hates that she says thank you because he likes the kiss and he hates she thinks he did it out of pity and I feel like show Colin would be the same there.

Many people make that mistake, but a drawing room isn't a room where people actually draw. It's the short version of "withdrawing room", where the people living there withdraw to, sometimes with close friends or family. Basically it's like a living room but more intimate/not for everyone to go into.

The drawing room was basically what they called the family room (or the T.V. room--minus the T.V. 😉) back then (maybe the Brits still do? I'm not sure; I'm not British 🙃) . It was basically where the family could relax--read books, play card games, etc.--basically be themselves without worrying about putting on a "show" or "showing off" for anyone . . . Then, the parlor (I think) was the more formal LIVING room where you accepted guests & was more for "showing off" to people. So, for Pen to say that she always felt really comfortable in the Bridgerton's drawing room felt like her way of saying she always felt MORE comfortable in the Bridgertons' "family" room than in her own house--which is really kinda sad if you think about it . . .

Lady Featherington really pisses me off. She writes off Pen, then scolds her for seeking help to find a husband. If she had put in a fraction of the effort she did for her two other daughters towards Penelope she wouldn't have needed to seek out help from a friend in the first place.

Yeah def not looking for pity with that kiss. Pen really feels like she’ll never find someone. Her mom doesn’t think she’ll get married, guys don’t notice her and when she changes her wardrobe to get noticed she gets her dress ripped and has trouble speaking to the men. Her final try was getting help from Colin and that gets ruined too. 😔😔
