I bought a 1988 Winnebago on an online auction. Measuring in at 32' long we need to remove it within a day, can we get it running good enough to make the drive home? #willitrun #winnebago #motorhome #rv

I have resurrected several old RV's and one sitting for 6 years is not that bad, especially for a quadrajet, which can set over 10 years with ease and still work fine. Most RV's didn't get fuel injection until the 90's, and if you can take the time to actually understand a carburetor, they are great. In fact I will take a carburetor over fuel injection any day. If the refrigerator has an ammonia smell, it is leaking and should be replaced or professionally rebuilt.

My first car came with a lucky set of horseshoes, too. '63 Chevy Nova. I think I bought it in '74 for $100. It ran fine. But needed brakes and a clutch. I was in high school. Did all that myself.

Great RV! Great job, guys! Probably good to syphen out the old fuel with a wet vac or pump or something before setting off -- might have prevented some of the carburettor and running issues. And I know it was probably not possible at the time, but it might have helped the brakes to douse them with brake cleaner -- just to free them up, get rid of a bit of dirt and rust, etc. Mechanical problems can always be solved. The real hurdle is: What does the wife think of it? I think she'll (the wife) like the RV. And I think she'll (the RV) clean up real nice. Try to restore her back to original -- give her (the RV) that dignity. Great job, guys! Keep safe out there!

The Shape, the windows, the layout and the dash tells me it may be the WindCruiser by Winnebago. I'm sure there's other model names too. They are actually good quality line of RV's. LIke top of the line for an RV. I was just given an 85 model with 35,000 original miles that had been badly vandelized. No water damage though.I've towed it to the off grid property. I'll be using the 454 and Th400 for my 85 Chevy Truck K20 mud truck build. The other parts, tanks, windows, fridge, wiring propane tank and many many other parts to convert a school bus to an RV. It should save me thousands robbing parts off this thing. Sad it was vandelized so bad. It still a Th400 but should have straight cut planetaries in the back and a drum driveshaft brake that can be swapped out with a standard output shaft which I'll have to be doing.
@NomadicHooker4 ай бұрын
hahaha, Good Job sticking with it and getting it to the house. You got your $160 worth. There's a ton of good parts and that low mileage engine just needs fluids changed a carb replaced and new fuel pump then put it in a Squaebody truck. As I'm doing with one extremely similar, converting a bus to an RV. I hate RV's, though I have to say, those upper line Winnebagos are about the best I've seen for an RV as far as quality. I mean, it's still thin consctruction, but it's not paper thin like most RV's. I'll have to sub now and see what you do with this thing. Can't be nothing but good and entertaining.

From what I’ve seen station wagons and RVs kept using carburetors long after the throttlebody came around why I have no idea

The brakes are not working well, because you need to inflate the air suspension

Definitely wasn't as bad inside as I thought it would be. Should have put some Seafoam in the gas, that would have helped with the carburetor. Run an Ozone Generator inside for a week to get rid of the smell.

Q-Jet secondary air valves should snap shut, not dangle open. The air/fuel mixture was leaning out with you flooring it with the secondary air door messed up.

A lot of times the body of the camper and the cab aren't from the same model year. Example: my 1986 Class C by rights it should have fuel injection because '86 was the first year of EFI for Ford. However, the E350 frame chassi cab it rides on is a 1985.

I have a 36 ft class A on the Ford f-550 chassis and damn her booty swings far 😂 One good thing my dad pointed out (previous owner) was when towing a trailer the tail swing helps keep you away from curbs and the axles follow you around the corner much better when making tighter turns towing so it does have one benefit but that's it haha. Just isn't fun when making a left or right turn at a intersection with cars in the lane next to you.
