I bought an abandoned 79 Mustang that had been sitting on the "island" since 1991. It was supposedly driven to that spot and left for dead. I've been looking for a 79 for years and finally found a good candidate!!

Love these older fox-body Mustang's. 43 from Toronto and had a metallic brown '80 fox Mustang from age 18 to 28. Gold sparkles in the paint. Bought it for $700 bucks from an old lady. 1 owner garage kept 85,000 original kms!! It had a unique/wonderful rustic orange & brown autumn interior. Eventually sold it for a mint condition 2 door white Mazda 323 . Also one owner garage kept, 45,000 original kms. I should have kept the Mustang I still miss it and it would be a total classic/collector today

I have to admit, I have a soft spot for these early Fox "ugly ducklings", especially the Capris, but the 79's look so similar it's hard to tell them apart except the front end. I had an 80 with the 2.3, and was working for a guy who raced mod 4 circle track cars. I bought enough race parts off him to put together a crazy little 2.3 race motor and had dropped that in, with the stock 4 speed, got a 5.13 ring and pinion, and welded that little 7.5 solid with a stick welder...that car was so loud, had no power under 4000rpm, could rev to 10000, had to run leaded AVGAS....and it was worth it! God it was fun, and surprised a lot of "fast" cars at stoplights!
@Crossthe_line
@Crossthe_line 7 ай бұрын
The Capri had a wide body look due to the wheel opening body line being in a different spot. I would put a Mustang front clip with fenders on mine for the fat rear look. Your car sounds like it would have been a lot of fun!!

Early 79 has the door handles at the bottom. The later models had them at the top. I had the exact same interior on my 79. The odd thing was it was a V6. I later slept a straight 6 into it out of a wrecked 80 that I had. I had so many of these four eyed fox bodies in my youth.

It's was in 1979 only, and was replaced progressively by the 3.3L due to supply issues. Manual V6 79s are actually very rare, the brochure even mentions the automatic as the only option with the V6. The vast majority of them came with C3s or C4s.

Got to admit I still have a little of a soft spot for these cars, even though I don’t think they were all that good of a car. Those 2.3 “metric” 4 cylinder engines they put in these were a Mustang II left over and definitely had their fair share of issues. The 200 six was great but slow. The 302 was great but got dropped in 1980 (they should have dropped the 4 cylinder instead). They didn’t hold up well in a front end collision (personal experience) and the door were clanky when you slammed them, but … it was really the first good looking Mustang since 1970! This one needs a 302 transplant!
