When the points close, they energize the coil. When they open, they collapse the magnetic field , inducing the spark through the secondary winding in the coil.

Probably not. We are so busy with work, I am not sure when we will get up there. I really want to get it running for them. I ended up taking a small TYM tractor backhoe up there to dig a water line for my Sister in Law.

I just started following.... Would I love to get ahold of a backhoe like this! Every low priced one gets away before I can even go look at it. If course, my wife has forbidden me from get an old backhoe.... She says we can't afford to waste money on junk! Through my eyes, I see it differently. A chance to get a useful machine on my property that won't cost me an arm and a leg.

You get your spark when the points open, not when they close.
@TonysTractorAdventure
@TonysTractorAdventure 3 жыл бұрын
So you are saying, when the points tough, it energizes a magnetic field in the coil building to its maximum potential voltage, then when the points open, the magnetic field collapses sending a charge to the spark plug via the distributor cap and rotary button. I guess the condenser keeps the voltage lower at the points thereby keeping the collapsing magnetic field from the discharging coil from arching across the points? I guess all of this has to happen many times per second? I guess I just assumed the start of the spark process started when the points provided a ground to energized the coil thereby building the charge. I also assumed this all happens in milliseconds. Thank you for setting me straight.

It is a condenser. It limits the spark between the two contacts on the points. This allows the ignition coil to build its charge for the next spark.
