I like the showing of all that goes into getting it running as opposed to people who say they don’t want the video to be too long. Then they show it running. Your true ones will watch long videos the fake ones will skip to the end.

Get some decent jumper leads, the voltage drop from the 3 mile long cables was not helping your cause, plus a set of jumpers from a compatible charging system keeping the batteries charged would help. Surely the struggling starter would have told you it wasn't happy.

Good stuff brotherman! Patience and perseverance paid off I’d definitely be interested in getting to see the entire process start to finish, like what comes next for that engine now that you know it turns over and fires and what all goes into fully restoring to like new condition Well done keep ‘em comin!

I love seeing the starts like this one, but for a totally different reason. I've got a 3126 in my RV, and seeing how these old engines can take years of sitting/abuse and start back up is beyond amazing. My engine is a first generation (96), and this just reinforces my love for the Cat engine!

I've got old Cummins and old Jimmies going too. The trick to Cummins is use hairspray or axe body spray, they don't like ether. Same with VWs and the little gasoline Hondas. For Jimmies, be ready to block the air because the racks like to stick and make them run away.

Of course it will start... but after a few hundred hours the rubber inserts in the head gasket will let go. Then, if ya cheap out, or in my case rush because ice road season is limited, and just do the head gasket intead of a full inframe, the liner o-rings will let go in a few hundred more hours. Then you spend every morning for the next 3 weeks draining a gallon of water out of the bottom oilpan to finish the season. Or so I've been told ;)

Have to ask ,why did you not jump power from the forklift or another machine that was running and charging ? instead of dragging the batteries down to being useless, and I think a good way to connect the batteries is by using proper cables and terminals, bolted up correctly . I think I would have turned the motor over more with the injectors out to really get it spinning. Maybe an electric fuel pump to make sure the fuel system is bled and full of fuel ,looks like you could use a set up with batteries,a fuel pump system ,fuel container ,all on a stand that you use forklift to move about ,but also use the charging system of the fork lift to keep the batteries alive . That video with Casey ,you had to make sure that the run away potential was taken care of ,this motor, would it need the same care for shutting off if needed? It's going to keep us watching ,all these different "see if they run " videos, don't forget that V12 Detroit ,twin turbo , supercharged thing ,have to see that singing on the stand .😊

Thanks Quentin, I appreciate you sharing your procedure. I'm working on a diesel swap in an old pickup,, and even though there is a big difference in the sizes of the engines, your procedure carries over perfectly. Was there less concern about runaway with this one? Keep up the great content! It would be interesting to see your mobile work, and the build of your mobile service truck that Casey brought the service body for. A camera light would help with some of your backlit shots. Your work is too big and heavy to keep repositioning it to get the lighting right, and I think tripod lights or external lights would just be in your way and slow you down too much with having to move them and set them up from shot to shot. The camera light is just a suggestion, there may be better solutions. Congrats on the channel 👍🇨🇦

Great question about the runaway situation, if you noticed i was standing pretty far away from the engine when turning it over. Since it was previously stuck/seized i didn’t want to risk standing next to it with a board just in case it locked up again and tried to rip itself off the stand. I should have explained that better in the video

An aussie land cruiser ute in the U.S ,, that be a rare one indeed ,, next time spraying starter spray try spraying it while engine is turning , you were slow an most of your spray was evaporated before you hit starter button , it sounded very tight in spots while starting it

You would have an easier start if you had better connections from the battery to the starter, seems a lot of your hard start is your not getting enough juice for the starter to spin at speed, and that usually is the connections.

Actually don't understand how it was able to pull the motor around with such thin and long cables? They were barely sized to charge the batteries with! Of course, I could have been fooled by the camera perspective and the fact that I myself use ridiculously thick starter cables - the copper diameter is thicker than my thumb! But nowadays I don't dare to give any starting help anymore as modern engines can be damaged so easily...
