I picked up this Magnavox for $20. It is a 1962 model with a Micromatic turntable.
This is literally the first time I plugged it in. I was VERY surprised with the results! Any advice is appreciated!
UPDATE: I've cleaned up and recapped the Magnavox! This is my primary music machine now. There's something special about the sound from the tube models. I will post an updated video!

You had me when you toasted those who serve! Anyway, when you thought it had no capacitors, it has many. Most of which are UNDER the metal tube chassis, as I'm guessing you discovered along with a ton of resistors. And those big silver cans above are also capacitors. That being said, you have a beautiful unit there. Some of the magic you hear is a combination of that big woofer (not a "sub", just a woofer) and those wonderful horns running front-to-back. They make an amazing sound! Enjoy it; you are blessed. I myself would take it apart, make a separate amp, preamp, tuner (NOT a receiver, as you say here: that's a tuner. A receiver is a unit that combines those three), speakers and turntable from that. Most folks don't want a big hulking unit in the living room anymore, more's the pity. If you've restored it and kept it whole, again - you are blessed. Enjoy it! The tube version you have is MUCH more desirable than the solid state transistor units usually found. The sound of your is FAR superior.

Fabulous. The moment you slid open the top and I saw the preamp controls I thought - whoa, you're in for a cracking surprise when you open the back up. Those valve amps sound really stunning - a sound I will remain happy with forever. Have a similar model but without the horns - hope this treasure gives you many years of pleasure.

That's an Imperial model. From what I understand, they were only sold through specialty outlets and commanded a premium price.

This has tubes in it and they have the best sound. I advise anyone who is into vintage stereo consoles to go with tubes. As they put out the best sound. Solid state is good but not as good as tubes on sound.

Do you need to remove the amp before spraying the volume control with Deoxit or can you just spray contact cleaner onto the shaft of the controls without removing the amp to address the static issue? Have a similar console with the same static issue. Thanks!

@@EdwardBurke73 I think it's easier to get to if you pull it out. There's a lot more underneath, but I suppose you could try. Are you on Facebook? Search for a group called "Magnavox Stereo Consoles & Other Magnificent Magnavox Products". There are people there who know a lot more than me and have guided me along the way! Good luck!

While your " recapping" you might want to ohm out the resistors and check them also.

What does the MAH in the Finish section mean? Mine says VRY ( or at least that’s what I think it says). Everything else reads the same ( but the serial number). My model number is 2ST-671. I’m looking for a stylus replacement since mine isn’t working anymore and I just don’t want to chance it and buy the wrong one(duh). I just can’t figure out which stylus I need to buy.

@@Z0S084 I took out the entire receiver and took it to someone who knows how to repair vintage electronics. I did change the cartridge, but it also needed new tubes and other internal components. I probably spent another $100. It sounds great now!

I know this is an old video but there's an old saying ain't broke don't fix it the only thing you should do to that unit is clean it get rid of all the Dust clean the wood treated wood and live it well alone clean the contacts make sure the volume controls and all the other controls are nice and clean clean up all the old grease on the turntable put fresh grease on it put it all back together and leave it alone yeah you can turn around and take the tubes out and check him to see if there's a week once cuz this week once will still give you a sound and if there is weak ones you can replace them but if they're still working and is still above the week. Leave them alone if you know somebody who has a tube tester it's very easy to check them but as long as they're above the week area on the tube tester there is a gauge on it app and as long as it in the green the tube is fine and you don't have to replace it I'll leave it alone that's the way I've been preparing these things for years yes you can turn around and check the capacitors for ESR some of them get a high ESR when they get older if they're really high up those are the ones you change and you probably might have some of those old wax covered capacitors in there if they test out okay leave them alone I know there's some people say change them out but if they test out okay and the ESR is okay leave them alone because that's why you're getting such good sound out of the unit some people want you to change them out but the modern-day capacitors in them there are times when you should but if the capacitor is working and doing its job and is no sign of it going bad leave it alone
