Also don't forget that if a place with water has dark shapes on it on the map, it's mostly because there are underground areas or just shallow parts of that watery area, but Cider Lake also has huge dark shapes under the water, but we couldn't go under the ground there yet despite the lore suggesting that there indeed are underground places under the lake. What if there is an entrance to Khaenri'ah there, which proves once again that Mondstadt will indeed be an endgame place too.

It's also probebly why there's still no Venti Story quest 2. HoYo might be saving his story quest at the very end, like after Snezhnaya or khaenri'ah we might return to Mondstadt where everything started of our journey since Venti is somewhat connected to Celestia

5:10 I haven't finished watching yet, but I distinctly remember somewhere that the current Barbatos statue in Mondstadt is a replacement. The original statue was destroyed or stolen during the time the Lawrence clan was in power over all of Mondstadt, around the time of Venessa. The original statue had imbued spells or words of prayer on it if I could recall, but those writings have been lost to time, and the library of Mondstadt was also burned at that time so no records survive at all. The statue was then replaced after the Lawrence clan was dethroned and the Knights of Favonius was established. This stolen statue is different from the Statue of the Seven that was upside down and stolen by the Abyss Order. I'm talking about this Barbatos "Gateway of Celestia" statue. If it were true that this statue has something to do with Celestia, (a) Barbatos himself must have been involved in replacing it because as far as we know, only the gods know anything about Celestia, or (b) some of the writings must have survived through word of mouth, which, if this is the case, must have some mistakes in it. Edit: Just finished watching and omg this was very good, I am looking forward to more lore videos from you!

I always had the idea that the final struggle in Teyvat would end up being at Stormterror’s Lair as it always had some significance when we first visit there and travel there with Dainsleif, and the large archway leading to that reservoir northwest from the tower is actually going to be the portal to Khaenri’ah.

I didn't really notice it until now but the eight pointed star/octagram motif appears a fair bit throughout Genshin. Notably: • It's a Khaenri'ahn symbol • It's used to represent King Deshret(?) • Mona has a LOT of these • It's the shape of a compass rose representing the eight directions. The compass rose is the symbol of the Adventurer's Guild and the Teyvat Travel Guide, as well as Aloy's Vision • A vague octagram is used at the top of some domain murals • (This one's a huge stretch:) the simplified depictions of Celestia on the ancient frescoes have eight points

I was honestly thinking the same thing about Mondstadt being our last destination and the points you brought up made it even more likely. I also think we can all agree that Venti is the most sus archon and I do think Venti has some deeper connections to Celestia. Like, when I think about heaven, I think about angels. What does Venti have in his archon design? Angelwings.

If venti had another story quest... It will be about Istaroth...cuz after Sumeru's 3.3 archon quest an unknown voiced talk to traveller about the "Rewind, Stop, Froze, change the time/scenario that happened in Teyvat" and also Venti is connected through time on his Demo trailer and... No more spoiler i think

I somehow buy this possibility. Because if you think about it, Mondstadt has an UNDERGROUND/BASEMENT area that is locked behind a quest and some in-game information. Remember the time when we try and steal the Holy Lyre de Himmel? We saw that the Church has an underground facility. I wonder if there's more into it like more areas to explore someday? There's also a "basement" in the library where I'm assuming is considered the prohibited section of the library mentioned before in Lisa's story quest. And with the expansion of other nation, Mondstadt will also have too for sure. Also we haven't seen the Dandelion Sea or if it was even true. Either way, I hope you make more of this content soon, Bran! Love hearing your theory and analysis in a full video content form aside from what you usually do on stream and during quest.

One thing about Lisa I always thought was interesting is that her Vision is actually smaller in size than every single other Vision user, to my knowledge. That could tie into the reason she left Sumeru. On the same note, Kaeya’s vision is different than other Mondstadt Vision users too. All Mondstadt Visions have three pairs of ‘wings’ on each side. But Kaeya’s vision has only two on each side. Why that is could have to do with his ‘destiny’ and him being descended from Khaenri'ah. Anyway I think it’s interesting that there is even a difference in some visions that others in the first place. Like why and how did that happen. That’s a burning question on my mind. Also im excited for Bran’s theorist arc 🫶

I'm of the opinion that Venti's 2nd character quest won't be available until the penultimate chapter of Archon Quests, that he'll be the one to tie in all the hodge podge of informations we've gathered throughout all the Quest, across Teyvat. and that he's the one who will tell us the biggest lore nuke of what actually happened in Khaenriah, the Archon War, and most importantly, who is the Primordial One, the Unknown God, and Istaroth. Also, theory time with bran series? Seems promising.

Also about Lisa, she did in fact made a trade with "time and knowledge" which basically means that her life got shorten to have more knowledge. Most likely shes aware of what's happening

From reacting to genshin trailers to crafting genshin theories. I'm glad you're enjoying this game, Bran. I hope you'll make more of this! Mondstadt as the "prologue" itself is...quite sus, imo. I started playing genshin pretty early in patch 1.0 and after finishing mondstadt archon quest I just had a strong feeling that we might come back here, far in the future, to face the endgame conflict. Another thing that I find interesting is that mondstadt is the region that has many non native people residing there. Kaeya, albedo, bannett, mona, rosaria (she was rescued from bandits and we don't really know her origin), amber is quarter liyuean, and even venessa herself. But they came to mondstadt like seed of stories, waiting to be cultivated in the due time, to be part of the grand scheme. Even the description of barbatos's statue of the seven told us about it has been waiting for a noble soul to arrive... and I believe it was venti, summoning the traveler and won the 50/50.

Loved this video! I definitely agree that the 1 extra oculi from each region will have a purpose at some point in the game, I always thought it was odd that we had 1 left over in each region. No way that is a coincidence.

The 8-pointed star in the cathedral also kinda looks like the 8-pointed star on the chests of Halfdan and the Black Serpent Knights.

I think Story and lore in Genshin is so good, it leaves so much freedom for own ideas and interpretation. It’s so simple but at the same time it’s also so complex, it’s just so good!

A great video and a good theory. Loved it. So, I was listening to coffee and culture podcast ft. ashikai the other day where ashikai made a great point about mondstadt. She basically said, if I'm interpreting right, that venti and mondstadt in general is very story like and fictional like when venti starts talking, he starts with things like "once there was a boy" etc and then there are things like diluc being batman etc like it's very fictional and mondstadt as compared to other regions doesn't have that much of a deeper history. And then we recently learned from nahida about how to preserve memories in the form of fairy tales. Venti's whole persona and mondstadt being a city filled with bards, that's really sus, seems like there's more to it that isn't yet revealed.

Mondstad characters are the susiest ones too Lisa's book, Venti as whole, Albedo being a creation, Kaeya from khanriah. Alice beoing a descender, Varka too

This makes so much sense. It would be a poetic way to end the journey where it all began, especially when we consider the idea of Ouroboros/the snake eating its tail in many civilizations in our real world. It matches Hoyo's philosophy of time and circle of life in Teyvat too.

I also wondered if Venti will have his 2nd Story Quest, it's kinda weird that Zhongli got one and I'm assuming Nahida will get another one knowing that Raiden got her 2nd SQ too

Hey Bran I missed your last stream but I'm watching it now and I think there's something to add to your discussion on swimming underwater in Fontaine. There's this npc in Sumeru (i believe near the lighthouse) who talks about diving in Fontaine. The water is too poluted to be able to dive in Fontaine, which is why he likes Sumeru. I mean, we could still get a diving mechanic but just so you know. I love this original theory by the way. I never realised the church has the same shape as the door in the intro and now I can't unsee it. I have 2 more things to add: in the picture of the official mondstadt ost on KZfaq, Celestia is placed directly above the city. And the second: in the intro we see the twins flying towards Musk Reef and that's all we paid attention to because the spiral abyss is located there. But where are they coming from? We see them passing the church and i bet they're coming from the gate and/or Celestia thats somewhere above (or below) the church.

and yet here I am still waiting for Monstadt to have a underground parts.. like those closed gates in Thousand Winds Temple may lead to more lore related things.

Didn't we already kinda get confirmation that Dainsleif was the abyss twin's travel companion the same way Paimon is ours ? 👀 I seem to recall in the We will be reunited quest, Dainsleif kept alluding to having traveled around Teyvat as we do in the past, while always going out of his way to keep quiet on his own companion's identity. Then when we meet up with the abyss twin, they tell us to complete our journey and that we will understand everything then, implying they have gone on the same journey around Teyvat. Considering their strained but obviously charged history with Dainsleif, it seems like a given to me ! Some may also remember how in the 3.1 livestream, there was a tidbit where Lumine (as the abyss twin) had Enjoy file in a report - a tidbit in which Enjou points out that Paimon has nothing on Lumine's past traveling companion - probably because Dainsleif knows so much about everyone and everything (see the collected miscellanies). I totally agree with this theory in any case; Mondstadt is gonna be way more important than it might seem at the moment. I think the region was introduced first specifically so we wouldn't have context for all the lore we were shown early on, so we wouldn't realize how much it has going for it, or that we simply wouldn't look into anything suspicious because there was so much to do. A lot of characters from Mondstadt have big endgame potential - Kaeya, Lisa, Alice, Albedo, maybe even Diluc and Eula. It's gonna be big and I can't wait.

I'm curious about spiral abyss "musk reef", any thoughts why or how Scaramouche learned that "the sky of teyvat is fake" when we met him at musk reef during the first event "Unreconciled Stars"?

I really love hearing your thoughts as we go further into the games story, it’s super interesting to see people’s different theory’s and their thought process when dealing with the lore of genshin. We still barely know anything about Teyvat really and there’s still so many mysteries to uncover but I’m super excited to see where this game goes story wise. Also, have you noticed that Monstad even tho, is one of the oldest region, theres full of places we havent explore yet?. Such as the bottom floors of Dvalin's Lair. Also we cant explore mona's house freely yet (only in the last dodoko island event), that makes me suspect theres a lot of info regarding Alice, the true nature of Teyvat's sky and their congregation of astronomers there. There is also a door near the guy that sells furniture in that city and that may lead to Mondstad secret basement, where the Dottore in the Manwa made the experiments with those childrens. There's more to this region than meets the eye. So im really hping that i can explore this region further in a future overhaul of the whole region controled by the Anemo Archon.

I'll say, the first main region coming back in the ending makes sense. the first world, area and map is always a home to a player when you mess that up it makes the player even more uncomfortable and sad by the turn of events, that once peaceful safe haven is no more.

What really intrigues me is that the twins are basically travelers between worlds, it's what they do. The choose a place, go there, spend some time in that world and leave. But that's the thing: they CHOOSE where to go. When they arrived in Teyvat, they didn't chose it. They FELL there. Teyvat was not the place they intended to go to. Something or someone must've draw them there. Also: they fell on Teyvat and fell unconcious, the Abyss twin woke up first and saw Khaenri'ah's destruction, then came back for their sibling because they knew they had to get the Hell out of there, and that's when their exit got blocked by the Heavenly Principles. The Heavenly Principles took our twin (still gotta know how come our sibling is free and ruling the Abyss if they were captured against their will (or were they?)). For a while I didn't know the right order of the events but it seems it was like that.

Bran has finally awaken as a theorist

in the intro, Traveler and their sibling went to Teyvat from another world, then they wanted to leave, got stopped by unknown god and kicked back to Teyvat, so those Paimon's words are just recollection of what Traveler said. But the theory of the cycle is pretty interesting - our "sibling" had the companion in the past too, so maybe it was the abyss herald + sibling (abyss herald did say that he was better companion to the sibling than Paimon is to Traveler), then sibling + Traveler, now it's Traveler + Paimon, and maybe it'll be Paimon + someone else? That would play well to what Traveler's sibling said to Traveler in Liyue: sibling implied that Traveler needs to go thru entirety of journey themselves, and not to rush, because they have time. Also note that our sibling has the parts that corresponds to element active at the moment white - perhaps it's the light element? One that you would possibly get from celestia, at the end of the journey? and maybe at the end of the cycle one of existing civilizations/nations is destroyed, like Khaenri'ah and those before it? That would mean it's 1 civilization per circle, and that is why sibling is so hellbent on fighting the fate and restoring Khaenri'ah - to stop the cycle that leads to destruction of a nation every time bonus: I think Mondstadt is so important because Khaenri'ah was bordering with it. The abyss spiral, that hidden island with clock thingy - those might be the very last things on the main map that are left of the area where Khaenri'ah was

Starfell Lake is where the Traveler landed in this world. This is where the journey began and where it should end. I assume that the Traveler will depart to Khaenri'ah from Mondstadt at the very end of the storyline.

This new facet is always welcome! After all, a game like this, with such an amount of lore and unresolved stuff, feels uncomfortable if us as players cannot build up possible outcomes, be them right or wrong, realistic or too out in left field! So, thank you for that, man! About the topic, I kinda see Mondstadt as an ace under the sleeve, because, certainly, there's a lot of stuff in there and the plot so far has been carefully concealing it under a lot of action but slowly resurfacing tiny bits of it that end up connecting with Mondstadt

Man if I have to go find those extra occuli for something I'm fucked. I struggle so hard to find the ones just to max the statues. the fact that there are unmarked ones always stumps me. I could have sworn it was said outright, I think in We Will Be Reunited, that it was definately the Abyss sibling and Dainslief that traveled together.... I certainly believe that is important that we keep looping back to Mondstadt, though I had the impression that it was because of Venti's overall tolerant freedom stance as well as him being directly connected to the goddess of time. All sorts of suspicious things can prosper there because Venti allows it to ;) Though, I don't think he is actally as lax as he shows himself being.

So far, the other regions has had an underground area, except for Monstadt. If the city was built from the ruins of Khaenriah, perhaps it's "underground" area will be that after we circle back to the beginning after visiting all the other areas of the map.

another thing i find very suspicious of mond is that the music we hear sometimes on the opening screen is mondstadt music. hoyo really take of importance the music side of things, i was wondering why when making the game they didn't make special soundtrack only for the opening screen. idk it seems wired that we can hear the mond music up there... since we can only hear the regional music when we're at the region.. hmm....

This actually makes sense, because if they were to go with this idea, then it would be a situation in which: *It will end the same as it began* . Specially how I’m almost certain that Paimon is Istaroth/God of Time, as it was glimpsed in most archon quests and cutscenes varying from Paimon saying something silly like “Paimon is the god of protection” or “Paimon has no sense of time” to other major cutscenes like Ei’s 2nd story quest where Miko was getting is through the portal to find Ei, and she said something like “only if your will is strong enough can I deliver you to the right destination”, and it worked for us, but it also worked for Paimon, now one might think that the Traveler was the only one needing to have a strong devotion to find Ei for both of them to make it, but was that really it? Or did Paimon also needed to have a strong will in order to make it as well? Also at the end Ei said something similar to “I sensed that *other external forces* may have taken a part in your appearance.” and above *”other external forces”* are the words: *Istaroth* . There is also the fact that her outfit just screams time and her menu also stops time itself…except herself and..the wind? And I’ve said this before and I will say it again, she has a more intimate relationship with Venti because he’s the only archon whom she gave an “ugly nickname”. Some people may say “Oh, it’s because Venti annoyed Paimon a lot” well, so did Zhongli with his mora(less) issues, but she didn’t give him an ugly nickname did she? This just leads me to believe that at the end of the story, Paimon’s true identity will be revealed and (IF) she’s actually the god of time, we will need to go back to Mondstat, like I said, it’d make sense as: *it will end the same way it began.*

Ahhh I loved this video!! To add I think the area underneath mondstadt may also be something eventually(dark water) as well as under storm terrors lair….. Also side note I had a thought pop into my head during this video… musk reef used to be known as pylos peak and used the be the tallest mountain (1.1 event) so thinking maybe statue pointing there because it is the highest point/ closest to celestia??? Idk the timeline of venti cutting off the mountain and when the statue was built though.

I do wholeheartedly believe we'll return to Mondstadt at the end, and your theory sounds fascinating and makes a lot of sense. Though I'd like to point out that Paimon's dialogue at the beginning of the game was already clarified in the We Will Be Reunited quest. I'm not sure why the community collectively forgets about this, maybe because it's conveyed in a weird way, but after Traveler explains the *_full_* story to Dainsleif and Paimon, we get dialogue that lays this out as the true series of events: - Aether and Lumine fell into Teyvat inside of meteorites. The Unreconciled Stars event revealed that Teyvat's "stars" are actually meteorites, considering the meteorites we investigated in the event were pieces of a constellation. So by Teyvat's standards, Aether and Lumine arrived inside of "stars". - Sibling woke up, while Traveler continued to sleep. - Sibling was awake long enough to know about Khaenri'ah, maybe even wander around searching for Traveler. Perhaps they landed in separate locations. - Sibling woke Traveler up right after Khaenri'ah had been destroyed and insisted they needed to leave. - When the twins tried to leave, they were stopped by the Sustainer of Heavenly Principles, and we saw the rest of what happened there. Your point on Lisa probably being more than just a librarian and guarding encoded secrets that were missed by Irminsul definitely has merit when you remember that in her character quest - which we _had_ to do during the Prologue - an Abyss Mage stole the book The Pale Princess and the Six Pygmies, claiming that it held a secret, even though it's regarded as a fictional story. And of course, Mondstadt is the land of poetry and song, and Venti is often writing new ballads about people's exploits, both in permanent content and limited events. Another reason to believe we'll return to Mondstadt is that Albedo "losing control" and potentially causing the destruction of Mondstadt is alluded to in three different places... which meeeeans it's going to happen. - Obviously, in Albedo's monologue at the end of his quest. - At the end of Albedo's Collected Miscellany video, Dainsleif talks about Albedo using Khemia, how it hails from Khaenri'ah, and says that he's usually content to watch disasters unfold, but if Albedo makes a mistake and threatens the destruction of Mondstadt, Dainsleif will stop him. - Venti's voice over About Albedo, in which he says that Albedo is using an ancient power, and "I can't imagine what would happen if someone lost control of it in the city..." As for Teyvat's cyclical nature, I have a theory stemming from the murals in Tsurumi Island's ruins. The three murals that are about moon worship have stars on them. I know the stars are there for the torch puzzles, but bear with me. When looking at the murals and translating the text, I get the feeling there's a narrative order to them, and following that order, the first two have 5 stars while the third has 6 stars. The second and third murals also use a Latin word that can mean "renew", and the third mural seems to depict a tragic ending. The text on the third is too faded, but my guess on its final word is either a word connecting to murder or a word connecting to "loss of light", which the first mural says "Trivia and illegitimate children, you are the moon's source of light." I pondered on why the murals go from having 5 stars to 6 stars, and outside of the meme-y answer of "The devs are foreshadowing the eventual powercreep of 6-star characters", my shot in the dark theory is that the stars mark the number of cycles that have been completed, in which case we are on cycle number 7. Seven, the important number that we keep seeing repeated. So, maybe seventh time's the charm. The giant Venti statue being able to rotate to point to Celestia also makes sense, btw, considering it seems like Celestia can move around. So no matter where Celestia moves to, the Venti statue will be able to turn and point at it to open the way to it.

Bran, when you mentioned the statue overlooking musk reef, I remembered that in our world, there are theorists who think that the ancient peoples believed in something called “earth energies” and that there are lines that connect all these together. That’s why so many important historic landmarks seem to have been built on a line when you connect them on the map. These demarcations are called Ley lines. So far in game we only know something about where these lines may be because of the blossoms that spawn in the overworld and the irminsul trees, but what if the lines aren’t just demarcated by natural phenomena, but by man made landmarks too? Guess what else is on the same line as the Venti statue and Musk Reef? Stormterror’s lair. And what do we know about Stormterrors lair? That there is an inaccessible portion beneath the tower. A space we have not yet been granted access to and which Paimon uniquely tells you to “Watch out! Don’t go near there,” when you get too close. Battle music also doesn’t not play there. Interestingly, one of Old Mondstatd’s entrances is located North-West, on the same line as the Venti Statue and Musk Reef. There’s a theory this entrance leads to Snezhnaya and this is also where the only fatui in the zone are located. It would be crazy if the cathedral in Snezhnaya, which bears the same symbol as the Cathedral in Mondstadt, also intersects this line. Aside from this, there are also several gates in Liyue that point to Celestia and Musk Reef. I wonder what would happen if we were to intersect all these lines together. We know Genshin draws from real life, and Ley Lines have been a thing since its inception. There’s no way the writers wouldn’t have thought to take from the original inspiration and put important Genshin landmarks on a line that crosses through all of them. The question would be ‘why?’

So, I thought about something while watching this that I hadn't considered before... During the 3.5 stream, you mentioned the new Dain quest looked like Enkanomiya, and just now, I realized that the Dain quests so far have always been in the last region that got unlocked. 1st in Mondstadt when we had up to Liyue, then in Liyue when Inazuma was out. So maybe you're on to something with it being a return to Enkanomiya? Super farfetched probably, but we don't have Dain in Inazuma yet so

I was actually thinking that mondstadt will be the last for a few reasons. 1. The mondstadt archon quest has only one Act so far and it was released in the same version as the Liyue Archon quest. No 2 archon quests have been released in the same version with this as the only exception. 2. The traveler has more significant events with the abyss and Dainslef in mondstadt than in any other region. The abyss also considers Celestia an enemy and is led by the traveler's sibling. 3. Alice and Albedo are from Mondstadt. This just seemed interesting to me but it is not a strong point. 4. We still gave not explored the Mare Jivari and it is probably to important to be released in the same version as another region (Ik that a new area in liyue was released in version ) 5. There is a lot of story potential for Mondstadt concerning the four winds.

I just noticed the statue's hands points to windrise the tree specifically.

starfell lake being the spot where a descender lands seems odd at first, but then i noticed similarities between starfell and the little moat at the foot of the statue in mond-- maybe someone else descended in mond? like the first descender, the heavenly principles?

My brisk theory is that the goal of the travelers is to unite all lands. This means removing the power dynamics of visions as well. Remember, the gods were killed by Archons, other gods, and as we learned from the Salt goddess, done dirty by the people/worshippers. I’m thinking that the traveler will obtain all elements and then it will eventually become one (Light [hope]). The general dynamics/hierarchy of power has shifted from gods>Archons>people. I think it loosely follows the general aspect of Judaism. The dukes of hell were overcome by mere human that brought hope to its people, just like bringing hope with other historical figures (Moses, Christ, etc.). Side note: I really hope they do a flip and allow us to play as the twin. And go through obtaining the elements through them, in a different way.

About the 8 point symbol in the Mondstadt Cathedral: The one in Snezhnaya has 6 points, and the Snezhnaya chapter is Chapter 6! So what if we get Chapter 7 in Khaenri’ah, and then in Chapter 8 we go back to Mondstadt to get to Celestia?

I actually really enjoyed this crack theory, personally I can agree that's it's possible the game ends in mondstadt but I don't think it'll be a full on explorable area but aside from that I've recently seen a symbol like that of the one in the cathedral and I believe I know what it's referencing but sharing it would be a big leak from 3.5 so I'm gonna stay quiet about it

I honestly thought I have watched all the theorists and satisfied myself with their own understanding of the lore of the game BUT Branonline opened again another door to mystery. Thanks for the wonderful video!

i definitely appreciate the crack theory that dain is the unknown gods travel companion, but unfortunately we basically have confirmation that he was our siblings travel companion. through what he says to our sibling when we see them in “we will be reunited” and also through the fact that based on which sibling you pick, the pronouns dain uses for his old travel companion changes to whatever the pronouns are for the other sibling. i do think it’s a very interesting theory tho, it could also be possible that because aether (even tho it’s technically not but hoyo always uses aether in promotional shit) is the canon traveller, it’s possible that if the world is in some sort of time loop, dain and the unknown god are the previous versions of the traveller siblings? maybe? also a bit of a crack theory tho

This is really interesting. This open ups more speculation about Mondstadt and the Traveler's journey overall, but even if this doesn't really give any conclusion to it, adding up more spice to speculate more about Genshin is enticing to watch.
