Hi everyone!
Welcome to another video.
In this one, I'm doing a few experiments to see how the Ortur 10w laser works being mounted vertically!
Wouldnt it be great if you could mount these on a wall and save all that space?

Next, to build a rotary axis for a vehicle, and add a z axis to allow the machine to compensate for the less than flat surfaces.. haha! I am new to this with a sculpfun s30 ultra with a 33watt diode laser, and just did a successful first test run, the album cover for Rush - Permanent Waves on cardboard about the size of a postage stamp! These things do amazing levels of accuracy, and use light sabres instead of drill bits. Great fun.

I have a few suggestions i think would work well for making this more practical. 1. would require some light disassembly but remove the gantry and weight it, then fabricate some counterweights to clip on the belts that move the gantry. this would allow you to orient the laser in the vertical orientation that aligns with your screen. 2. Second suggestion is kind of a 3 in 1 . Fabricate a enclosure that uses a metal pegboard as the 'baseboard' of your work area but leaves enough room beneath for air flow. maybe put some plastic made of that protective yellow plastic for a window. This will (A) protect your eyes , (B) Allow you to attach some form of suction to keep work pieces in place by pulling air through the metal pegboard, and (C) Allow you to contain and control the venting of potentially hazardous fumes and smoke emitted by working on various materials.

Good ideas, also, if needed, might be able to get the motor drivers to run a wee bit richer if the gravity induced weight factors in. There are usually adjustable points on the controller card either on the motor drivers or beside their socket on the controller card. And another consideration, either making a new rig, or changing out the controller card and the motors to a slightly higher NEMA or Servo type motor, and that would take care of any additional weight concerns at least vertically. The sound we heard of the shifting of the axis shows there is some play occuring that isnt a concern when the machine is in a horizontal position rather than vertical. Those axis would best be changed to have ones that show zero backlash, and it would be a silent runner and accurate. For some small workstations, vertical is the way to go, there is a value to having a vertically situated rig.

You could reduce the effect of gravity on the servos by mounting the laser diagonally.

Hello! I guess you could 😊 but not sure how much of an angle you would need, and if a big angle, it may defeat the objective of being space saving? Cheers ryan

This is ideal to consider, I was thinking before buying the laser rig about this vertical work. The use can be for 'editing' existing walls and structural elements for added style if done carefully. Keep on rocking like you roll, brother from a probably taller mother.

You should try double sided tape to hold pieces to the backplate after cutting. Also, isn't the gantry driven by two motors? Maybe try to turn it 90 degrees so the gantry moves up and down and it wouldn't be very difficult for two motors to handle.

Hi Ryan. What about if it was leaning back so that the work piece had less chance of falling forward therefore might not need as much of a complicated workpiece holder and clamp set up 👍👍
