Can humans create super-mushrooms? In this episode of The Mushroom Show, we are digging into the story of scientists in Australia who are unlocking the secrets of mushroom genetics in order to see what improvements can be made for future cultivars... and if they could use that to manipulate the compounds they create. We are also looking at some more "bad headlines" and the potential impact, wondering whether or not certain mushrooms should be "grown on poop", and digging into one of the rarest mushrooms of all that is currently showing up in Texas.

I'd like to hear more of the facts behind Paul Stamets statements suggesting that portabella mushrooms are "highly carcinogenetic" (from an interview with Joe Rogan).

Didn't he say something along the lines of "highly problematic". Or just that they had problems, and not what the problems were? Don't recall him calling the carcinogenic

@@alvinwe8396 You are correct... he doesn't specifically say "carcinogenic." Instead, he tells Joe that Portabella mushrooms contain Hydrazines and Agaratines (which are known to be carcinogenic). And when asked to explain more he declined to answer... saying that doing so would put his "life in danger"

I live in the Netherlands and even though the mushrooms containing psilocybin are illegal to sell. They are legal to grow. The spores, mycelium, and growing supplies are legal. Also, the sale of the sclerotia containing psilocybin is legal too. Seeing that they aren't technically mushrooms

jumping out of a window on shrooms isnt stupid it is sad. in the 80's you could buy dried San pedro and 2cb in the smartshop. the mushroom ban was gonna happen sooner or later. i was really mad when it happened. but to be fair magic mushrooms dont belong in a busy city centre in the hands of a tourist.

If you don't want to grow on poop or on wood, I recommend growing on a rice based substrate. Mushrooms like rice almost as much as people.

My Lion's Mane LOVES Basmati. I tested a lot. You might get higher yields with blabla but colonization time of Basmati wins. Sure, strains can be trained but why bother if you have found food which makes your strain "happy", all-you-can-eat speedrunning?!

In Toronto, I recently went to my local Shroom store (grey area legal) for some low dose gummies. Late evening and alone in the store the clerk gave me a long spiel about the products. Only accepting cash, I went across the street for an ATM & returned, to which she said "how can I help you"? Then holding the product in my hand I give her the cash (which she overcharges me), puts the change in a bag and hands it to me. Poor girl was so high.

Well if the genetic makeup of the strains commonly available on the market are similar, I'd say that's almost a sign from God that those are a good genetic strain to have on the market.

The pilot wasn't on mushrooms, he had taken it 3 days prior. He wasn't on a mushroom induced psychotic break, he was on a psychotic break induced mushroom treatment. The whole reason he took shrooms was to cure his psychosis.

In Sweden (where I live), the authorities measure the amount of illegal drugs in the sewage, the same way they measure the amount of corona and flu viruses in the sewage. The knowledge is used to implement measures for public health. But you don't get high from drinking sewage.

can't wait for the first psylocibin yeast to pop up 😂 Huge scale production, funky bread, etc 🤔 Or edit psylocybe to grow like yeast... either way, this could lead to huge scale growing and extraction operations, since yeast is massively easy to grow in huge scales

it would be great if it's possible to introduce and activate psylocibin genes in other mushroom species... it's probably really difficult to find and transfer all precursor genes needed for this to work. brst to do it with yeast... since yeast is absurdly easy to grow in huge scales and really easy to extract those interesting compounds... which would then obviously need to be blottered. still absolutely worth it though.

I do have to say that it doesn't look like Texas has high speed rail. It seems there are talks of building a 205 mile an hour line between two cities. I wanted to believe otherwise but I know the US is in a league of its' own when it comes to not investing in things that make sense.
