Eeeek! We don’t have enough flowers for Mother’s Day! This is a tricky time of the season in Oklahoma to have focal flowers. Our spring flowers (tulips and ranunculus) are done and our summer annuals aren’t quite ready yet. We have some flowers but not enough! Watch how we solve this problem and save our Mother’s Day sales. #flowerfarm #flowerfarming

It’s so encouraging to watch you guys succeed. Maybe make a sold out sign to hang under the local flower sign. That way you don’t have to verbally tell people, just a thought from an introvert that doesn’t like to be the bad guy. 😂

You're so right about consistency......and trust. Leaving your price at $25 for Mother's Day confirms to your customers that they've made the right decision to depend on you for all their flower needs consistently, without worrying that your price is suddenly going to go up because it's a big event. Nothing undermines trust faster than greed. And I'm soooo happy you put your 2024 price at $25 instead of jumping to $30 because I believe that's a big part of your huge increases this year, when everything else is jumping in price so much. Bravo....what a great weekend! Can't wait to see your first $10,000 Saturday.

Great job. It is always nice to support other local flower farmers (and the veggie farmer across the road). You are right about people not reading (or looking for the answer to their question), they just ask the question instead. It was also nice that you had enough bouquets to last until 1030. Can't wait to see next week. I love seeing the kids helping in the garden and smiled at your son's weed bouquet :)

You have done such an amazing job marketing! It makes so much sense to buy from other growers that have decided to grow for wholesale in order to meet your demand. It’s a win win for sure!

Congrats! And I agree - even though I had to get some flowers elsewhere because we too have the May lag - i didn't raise my prices and people did buy multiples!

I don't think that flower is Poison Hemlock. It looks more like Queen Anne's Lace or Dara. Poison Hemlock has purple splotches up and down a very smooth stem. Queen Anne's Lace has a hairy green stem and has a small purple flower in the center of the flower umbel. I love using QAL in bouquets.

I really appreciate how upbeat you presented; we don't have enough... let me ask for help (in the right ways).. it will be ok, the blooms will be ready for future weeks. I needed to hear that. If it's not working right now, no need to beat myself up. Tighten up the timing, give thanks for what I * do* have, be ready when the blooms come in. ☆

Beautiful bouquets! I’m in the same boat right now. My peonies are not at maturity yet and the ranunculus are coming to an end. One thing that is helping fill in the gap is roses. I know they’re a big bug magnet but I decided just to have about 10 to help out with that gap period and when the Japanese beetles invade I’ll throw some netting over them.

Happy Mother’s Day! Loved watching your video. I’m zone 9 and we have a pretty similar bloom time. Last year I fall planted scoop scabiosa. They are perrenial in my zone and amazing. They are large enough to act as a focal flower and saved my butt this year in the flower pause. May consider adding them to your farm for this little gap season 🤗 campanula also bloomed for me around now and is an amazing bulky flower for bouquets.

I personally think raising your prices for a holiday leaves a bad taste in your customer's mouths. It's simply not worth it in the long run. Much better to have customer appreciation. Also, loved the tongue sticking out pose after the bouquet making.

Those peonies were absolutely stunning! I wonder if you contracted w/ your sellers to buy more volume for 2025, would they lower your wholesale cost? $5 is steep and doesn't seem like it gives you a profit margin?? As a customer, I could see buying additional single stems to add more to my bouquet. I know you don't offer single stems but man I would love a bouquet with more peonies that looked like that!! Can't wait until next year to see you meet your 10k goal! 😊🎉 I know you can do it!

Try Aquilegia for flowers hungry gap. It bloom may-june and have many colours and many forms. It is short lived perenial. So you can get it this year later in the sezon for next year flowers.

So delighted with all the information you graciously share. Congrats on your success. In the 20+ years of growing and selling lavender, I often have to remind my students to plan for success because it seems they’re worried more about failure! Cheers to your success.

I have dahlias in ground and in large buckets and the buckets came back way faster than the in ground ones. I actually had my first bloom yesterday and several others are budding up as well. Not sharing to say you should do this exactly, but I think the buckets warmed up faster than the ground, so some large containers might be a solution for some who are trying to get flowers earlier. I’m just a home gardener, so this is just my observation. Might help someone?

so Eric is at the end taking down the snap dragons, do you let them overwinter or plant out new next year? I realize several varieties bloom at different times/temps. I have not tried to overwinter or let them reseed, and this year they/soil blocked, have not branched as easily as they have the last 2 years in zone 5b IL.

All I heard through this whole video is how Alex didn’t want to let her customers down. That being said, the ultimate goal is to sell out. That’s how businesses survive. It’s Mother’s Day. Let’s be kind.

I did not think they were gleeful when someone missed out on flowers...more like...how can we solve this problem and do better....Also the reading comprehension was simply a statement that people do not read...if you are in any kind of space where you seek to communicated anything via social media you would understand that. For example...I sent an email to someone the other day about coming to my farm and I PUT THE ADDRESS IN THE EMAIL. (it had about 4 lines in the email) and she asked me for my address...she obviously did not ready the email...it happens every single day...there was nothing mean about saying that people simply do not read the information that is there...
